Moving Ashtrays Away From Entrance of Squares.

They have all the ashtrays at the entrances at the square where smokers congregate and all the smoke blows onto the square. Yuck!
No smoking within 500 feet of square is more appropriate, many commercial buildings and hospitals have this policy and hopefully TV will implement this.

Chi-Town 10-09-2022 06:50 AM

Gotta hold your breath when discarding any trash.

Bilyclub 10-09-2022 07:01 AM

A ban at the restaurants would be nice. Ever walk by the patio of City Fire ?

500 feet is a bit much. Most rules and laws for commercial buildings prohibit smoking within 25 feet of the building entrance. Even Federal buildings have the same 25 foot rule. Although, some hospital complexes do not allow any smoking on their property at all, even outside the buildings.

I would normally say welcome to TOTV for a first post, but not this one.

Welcome to TOTV. Be prepared for the "less friendly" responses. They will likely be the smokers.

Always like the sign at a retail business on NON-smoking:

"If you come in here smoking, you better be on fire."

It would prohibit smoking from dozens of businesses located near the squares, some of which are not even on the square.

Personally, I don't see that as a bad thing. 😤

I have never smoked, and I wouldn't have an issue with any smoking ban. I was just stating a fact. And, the statement that many commercial buildings have a 500 foot smoking ban policy is not accurate.

From the age of 12, until I was 46, I put as much nicotine down my throat as I could manage.
Since stopping, I cannot stand the smell, and avoid any area where it is permitted.
Nothing as fanatical as a born again non-smoker!

I can usually tolerate cigarette smoke, except when I am eating. But, I think that anyone who smokes a cigar in public is just being inconsiderate and rude.

It may be up to the businesses themselves to ban smoking within the confines of their outside area.

Although TV probably has the authority to ban smoking on the entire entertainment square block, forcing people to smoke across the street. I'm sure the folks on oxygen would appreciate it.

Some condominiums and apartments banned smoking entirely in the building including your unit.

In 2020 the CDC estimated 12.5% smokes cigarettes in America. That statistic is probably 10% today.

I smoked for many years and know how hard it is to stop so I'm not self righteous and totally understand but the folks enjoying the music and dancing shouldn't have to be subjected to breathing that poison.

From your page layout, I think I know you from a previous life.
Given the number of holidays I think you have had, your username is quite topical as well;)!

I quit the coffin-nails back in 1985, not for any overriding health issues but because of the GAWDawful price for a pack of Marlboros (45 cents a pack) and I was a three-pack-per-day guy. Today, back where I hail from, I've seen people hand a $100 bill for a carton and get back maybe $3 and change. Crazy. I've often maintained that there are far cheaper ways of committing suicide.

All that notwithstanding--I have absolutely no problem with people smoking outdoors in public. Indoors, in bars and restaurants? If the merchant wants to ban smoking--fine. They are under no obligation to do so in sixteen states, Florida among them. But to my mind banning outside smoking in public areas smacks of big-brotherism running rampant.

LOL - I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if he's going to commit forum suicide under one of his other names now that he has a new account.. :1rotfl:

Bill14564 10-09-2022 11:44 AM

Don't believe I've seen anyone smoking at the squares. Certainly have never seen any congregating at the ashtrays.

Better to have the ashtrays than fires in the trash cans or butts on the dance floor.

People can choose not to sit next to the ashtrays if they are offended by their presence.

Likely more "poison" coming from the vehicles circling the squares looking for parking. What's next, close the squares to cars, trucks, and golf carts?

Taltarzac725 10-09-2022 11:48 AM

They could put in some small fans near the ash trays to push the smoke away from the Squares.

Gpsma 10-09-2022 02:58 PM

How about we ban the old unwashed and flatulent away from the aquares too?

The stench of people here is disgusting at times

I agree with no smoking indoors but outside should be allowed but to a point.

However bodily excretions are permitted anywhere.

Garywt 10-10-2022 12:43 AM

Maybe I am not around enough but have not really noticed much smoke. We always sit outside the square when listening to music. There should be designated areas though.
