Early and often as Chicagoans say.

Actually did it once last week

It seems to me that all of this early voting and voting by mail has done nothing but cause problems.

Even if there haas been on impropriety, the impression that there has been has upset a lot of people.

I understand that it gives more people the opportunity to vote but I think that a better solution would be to hold election over one weekend. Twelve hours on Saturday and twelve hours on Sunday. If you can't fit that into your schedule, you just don't care enough.

There would have to be mail in ballots for people that are out of the country or away from their homes but those should have to be applied for and should be a minimal amount.

Moderator 11-03-2022 01:03 PM

We'll let the poll stand for now. The next time we have to remove political remarks it will be closed.

What is meant by "minimal amount"? Fifty thousand people "apply" but only thirty thousand get in?

There is no way to vote from out of the country unless you have "applied" for it. And what about the sick/disabled/immodbile? If they can't get to the "weekend-only" poles they can't vote?
I think the system we have now is fair and encourages more people to vote, which is a good thing all around.
We voted from out of the country. Our son and DIL vote every election from out of the country since they are living in Australia.

Fair is perhaps an important word with no clear definition. "Son and DIL vote every election from out of the country since they are living in Australia."
I do wonder if they do not live in the United States why would they vote in the United States?

It is rather a huge system. It has to be. Imagine if the system had to approve or disapprove each vote. We voted early. It took, or should take far longer to study the issues, and who you choose to vote for compared to the time to get to the poll show your IDENTIFICATION, prove you are a citizen, you are who you are, you are ALIVE etc

C’mon, as my mom used to say to me and my brothers… “this is why we can’t have anything nice around here”.

Can’t you folks just stop with the inane political crap??? Let it go for a while here. This poll could be informative and interesting. Stop the assumably bad comments and take the poll. Give us and the Moderators a break. Be nice.

If you are an American citizen and you work for an American company and get transferred overseas for a set number of years on your contract you still have the right to vote for your country because one day you are going to return to America probably to live out the rest of your life when your contract is up or your company calls you back. Millions of us do it! The world is flat and news is available in every country in the world allowing you to know what is going on in your country and, therefore, you want to vote for your future. If you work outside your country you are even more interested in what is going on at home!

You go where your work or the military sends you. They are American citizens and have as much right to vote as any other American citizen.

None of your business.

OrangeBlossomBaby 11-03-2022 06:18 PM

I voted yesterday. It was well organized, no one outside shoving signs in our faces on our way in. Only one minor criticism, was the pair of official observers. One of them was kinda lurking directly behind one voter while I was coming in, and the other one tried lurking directly behind me right after I sat down and started filling in the vote circles. I stopped, put that plastic card over my ballot, and just stared at her, waiting, until she finally walked away.

My vote is my business, no one else's unless I choose to share it with someone else.

I agree with the above post. I plan on voting next Tuesday, on Election Day, when people have voted forever and should only be allowed to vote unless they have extreme extenuating circumstances. What’s up with this BS of having voting starting weeks before the election, it opens up a can of rancid worms.

Early voting causes no issues and prevents long, discouraging lines. Several have posted about how smoothly early voting went - they wouldn't be posting that if 5,000 people descended on each polling place on the same day.

Who you voted for is private; the door of the polling place and any lines you stand in are not private.

It's really, really easy: If you don't want to answer a poll, simply don't reply.

I think they should make Election Day a holiday. That way everyone will be able to vote….no excuses. No more mail in votes…no more early voting. Open the polls at 6:00 am and close at 9:00pm. If they have to open more polling places to accommodate everyone, then so be it.

Rainger99 11-03-2022 10:21 PM

First time voting in Florida. Are the lines long on Election Day? Had planned on voting on Election Day but if lines are long, I may vote early.

Please advise.

billethkid 11-04-2022 12:26 AM

.....an early vote is a vote.
..........."election day" vote is a vote.

over two weeks of voting opportunity and some are still trying to find ways/time to vote!?

What or why is it so complicated (by some)?

I know a couple who has lived out of the country for 28 years in the EU and works as contractors for military, and they say quote "they would rather stay there when then retire, than come back" and they sadly get to vote. When other than receiving government funds they do not participate in American life. I find it very sad and un American.

Not having early voting could of knocked me out of voting altogether this year. I need to have surgery and they were trying to get me in next week. He does surgery on Tuesdays and Fridays and I wouldn't have had a choice of day. If they scheduled it on Tuesday, I would not have been able to vote. Knowing this, I was able to go in early this week and cast my vote. Turns out it was a none issue, but I would have been very disappointed if my vote wasn't counted. I appreciate the early voting and honestly rather do that then mail it in. At least I know they received it.

Unfortunately when you register to vote in Florida all your personal information becomes public knowledge.
This is exactly how radical groups or agencies can target you. So contrary to popular belief voting is not as private as you may believe.

Sorry but if you make it a holiday, who will work. If someone is disabled and needs assistance, do they get the day off? You will always have exceptions and voting early helps to disperse the lines. Believe it or not some people still work, and having this flexibility really helps.

I understand the need or desire to vote by mail, but I always like the analogy of how much do you trust the USPS? Would you put a $100 bill in the mail and mail it to yourself?

I would absolutely trust the postal system to deliver the envelope with $100 back to me. I would be less trusting of the people working in the system who might recognize the content as a $100 bill.

I would absolutely trust the postal system to deliver the envelop with a mail-in ballot. I would also trust that the people working in the system couldn't care less about a mail-in ballot.

This a wonderful time to be alive and to be an American living in Florida!!

We were living in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC in 1976 and I recall waiting for over an hour to vote in the 1976 elections. By 1980, we had the sense to move to Virginia, but it still took a very long time to vote. By the time I got home after 8, my wife tole me Reagan had won.

We have been back in Florida for 6 years and voting has been a pleasure. I hope it is like that for everyone who is legally entitled to vote.

Chi-Town 11-04-2022 07:30 AM

Can't get much easier than mailing your ballot at the postal station. Just make sure you signed it and put on a stamp.

If you want to know if your mail in ballot was counted you can simply go to the county’s election website and look. At least you can for Sumter County.

I had been seeing those lurkers in Arizona and wondered what reaction I would have to something like that, well I think I would take their photo with my phone and if they challenged me I would tell them that they are stalking me and I need a hoto of them for the police. We need to be proactive in the face of this invasion of our privacy..

Are they still letting the dead vote yet? Mail in voting makes it to easy to let someone vote for Mom& Dad who’s been dead for 20 yrs.
