Where to buy a new washer and dryer?

Please send suggestions of reliable appliance dealers with fair prices. Also, where NOT to go is always helpful. If possible we'd like a made in USA product.
Thanks guys,

Check out Lowes or Home Depot but look in the damaged area. You can find some good deals.

retiredguy123 12-18-2022 02:15 PM

Best Buy

Michael 61 12-18-2022 02:59 PM

I just purchased a pair from Best Buy, and they will be delivered next month - I’ve had poor delivery and customer service issues in the past with both Lowe’s and Home Depot, for unlike Best Buy, they sublet their delivery and installation out to non-store employees. When issues arise, they both fingers at the other, giving you the run-around. With Best Buy, you are still dealing with their own in-house employees for all deliveries and installations.

Michael, which Brand did you select? Are any financing deals going on? You are doing good. Not letting any grass grow under your feet. Good for you. :coolsmiley:

Sears Hometown Stores Inc., a franchise-owned unit of Sears, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Triker 12-18-2022 03:58 PM

I had to go to best buy. It seems it’s more of a take what you can find vs what you really want unless you can wait.

MVB Appliance ,Ocala and Leesburg

Just had all my appliances replaced. MVB in Ocala were great. Talk to Mike the owner. Prices comparable to big box stores. No sub contractors. Use their on employees. And offer service.

asianthree 12-18-2022 05:05 PM

Have 3 house all needed washer and dryer within weeks. One pair from Lowes, (white)one from Costco, (granite) and last from Best Buy (Sapphire with 7”pedestal)

All 3 top of the line GE with steam wash, stackable if desired. Prices were with in $59 of each store, but Best Buy includes pedestal in package.

Lowes delivery in 21 ( white hard to find) days install extra. Costco delivery in 13 days install included.
Best Buy free delivery, install and take away, because we have geek squad. No issues with any store, install guy all very nice, arrived in the window, explaining use, cleaned up.

JohnN 12-18-2022 06:54 PM

We've had troubles with Home Depot on appliances. We shopped Lowes and we're happy. There are 10% coupons you can find online most of the time. Important these days, we wanted something in stock and ready to go - not on a cargo ship from China that may or may not come in anytime soon. Wherever you go, I'd say availability is very important.

Babubhat 12-18-2022 07:05 PM

Costco online

Another vote for Mike. Well actually I worked with his assistant Eric. I. have three homes in the area and he helped me with all of them. My oceanfront in Fort Myers needed everything and the lake house needed a washer and dryer as well as a dishwasher. I took out the appliances that came with my little place in The Villages since there was a scratch on the side of the fridge, and replaced them with top of the line. I got a great price and the cash discount made it even better. Not sure about financing. It’s been a while since I have had to do that (Lockheed stock).

Smalley 12-18-2022 09:05 PM

Thanks for all the super useful information. I'm going to start shopping!

Might just be us. Not one of the models we wanted were available. The prices were ok on opened appliances with some serious gouges, scratches and big dents, but in the same ball park with returned appliances with less issues at any big box store.

They really pushed us to take the appliance yourself, and really didn’t have install anytime soon, making us wonder if there would be an installation. Really worried that there might be serious issues with what was in an unopened box. Felt like I was in a flea market and the product just fell off a truck.

I stuck with a big box, if I am spending $6000 on 3 sets of washer and dryers I want to feel comfortable buying them.

HiHoSteveO 12-19-2022 05:48 AM

LG.com

3 weeks ago bought washer and dryer online directly from LG.com
Got a top loader with agitator. Wash drum is very deep but reachable.
(LG had Consumer Reports top rated models in recent issue.)
LG Washing Machines: High Efficiency Smart Washers | LG USA

Free delivery, installation and haul away of old until Jan. 4th. They include the hoses and cords too.
Also Florida sales tax exemption on new energy star appliances. Had to email them for refund of tax though, because no way to exclude it when ordering. They refunded it promptly.

Stay away from Samsung.
Speed Queen I think is the only American made. Top Quality but also top prices.

DianeR 12-19-2022 05:49 AM

Appliance Direct has good selection and prices much lower than Lowes. The appliances are in perfect condition unless you choose to buy the reduced priced scratch and dent ones. Installers quick and arrive on time.

Hendrick22 12-19-2022 05:52 AM

I purchased from appliance direct. Washer & dryer. Much lower prices, they installed the next day. But..only carry whirlpool

We second Appliance Direct. Lots of inventory and quick delivery.

mrf0151 12-19-2022 06:12 AM

Appliance Direct in Fruitland Park just south of TV. Bought "made in America" Whirlpool.
Their delivery and setup are done by their employees. Saved a lot of money.
Final note is to stay away from Samsung. We have had huge issues with their washers in particular.

Reynoka 12-19-2022 06:22 AM

We always bought GE…then had a washer only last 2 years and they couldn’t fix it, then a dishwasher lasted 2 years and they couldn’t repair it. During the pandemic I could only get LG appliances for replacements and have been very happy with their performance and love the sweet Melodie’s the appliances make rather than the harsh beeps of other appliances. I’ll buy LG now. They have made it past their initial warranty and are still working! The GE’s only lasted until a week or two after their warranty and GE authorized technicians couldn’t fix them. I’ve had to have my Whirlpool refrigerator fixed twice in order to get the lighting replaced. It’s cost 500 dollars for the light replacements combined. Not happy with that! Remember being able to just be able to screw in a lightbulb in an appliance?

Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators have 3 LED plug-in circuit board modules that you can buy from Amazon. They just plug in with no tools required. But, I agree that it was easier when they just used regular light bulbs.

MVWP575GW Maytag 27" 3.5 cu. ft. Commercial-Grade Residential Top Load Washer with 4 Deep Water Wash Option and Dual-Action Agitator. Made in USA. You can order from Lowes takes about a week to get. Washer and dryer both around 2k for the set.

Sweet Caroline 12-19-2022 06:52 AM

Kennmore at Sears. Used them for many years.

Do not even consider a Samsung.
Even if somebody gives you a Samsung for free, get something else. They are really that bad and fail too often.

Refrigerators... Ice makers that leak ice and water. Internal temperatures vary from 39 to 50 when set to 35 (this could be dangerous). Loud. Runs nearly constantly.
Dishwashers... Must always run heavy duty cycle. Racks don't fit normal dishes and bowls. Loud. Trim pieces that flop around. Touch controls that don't respond to being touched.
Microwaves... Just die. Often.
Stove... Poor design. Oven temperature inconsistent.
Washer... Fails to spin without going out of balance. Owner's manual describes functions incorrectly. Unable to clean internal filters without complete disassembly. Plenty of controls that cannot be used to change settings, such as water temperature, on almost all cycles due to computer override.
Dryer... Clothing drys ok only if half empty. Bedding clumps up and requires many cycles of manual rearranging and manual timed cycles because it shuts off with wet clothing. Lint trap lets lint blow by. No way to access internal vent path for cleaning lint without complete disassembly. (yes, vents have been cleaned of lint)

Samsung makes great computer parts, Nice TVs... but run away from their appliances. It's just not worth the headaches, no matter how good of a deal it might appear up front.

Yes, I have had service look at these problems... "Working as designed" or "That's not covered by warranty" or "They don't make parts for that now"

Thanks guys,

We check Appliance Direct first. Have not been disappointed so far with refrigerator, microwave, washer and dryer.

Costco ONLINE. And I'd forget made in America when it comes to washers and dryers. Your main concern should be looking at youtube reviews on washers and dryers to see if they even clean anything or not. Many new washers won't clean your clothes and you need to do your research. I'll save you time. Buy from COSTCO the LG front load pair that have the feature Turbo Wash 360. Front load NOT top load. If you do not have a COSTCO membership you can buy it online as well. Do not worry about never driving there in person. The savings you get on the free washer dryer delivery and installation will pay for itself.

Bethmarieb 12-19-2022 07:19 AM

Speed queen at Ken and Karys on 441. Just know that speed queen doesn't discount.

Another vote for Appliances Direct, but we bought ours from them 2-3 years ago.

Just bought a GE refrigerator from Costco online while the 27 cu.ft. was on sale. $599 off normal price plus a $200 shop at Costco card. Price included delivery, installation and haul-away the old Samsung. Delivery crew designated by GE were top notch and very careful. Very happy so far.

mschwartzeee 12-19-2022 07:34 AM

Call Rob in Mt. Dora 352-638-8662. He gets open box appliances from all of the big stores and sells them at a fraction of the price. Full warranty too. We have bought several appliances from him and are very satisfied.

NoMo50 12-19-2022 07:40 AM

Washers & Dryers made in the USA: GE, while owned by the Chinese company Haier, are made in the USA. Whirlpool and Maytag (owned by Whirlpool), made in the USA. Speed Queen also made in the USA. Speed Queen lacks many of the bells & whistles, but is known for extreme durability.

Miboater 12-19-2022 07:41 AM

I'll add another vote for Costco. I don't think you can get better prices and customer service anywhere else. When we closed on our home last November and couldn't find a washer and dryer anywhere, we went to Costco and had a nice set in the house and installed in 3 days.

Antonina 12-19-2022 07:48 AM

Home Depot. We just bought washer and very happy. Check their website first for deals. Good luck!

sowilts 12-19-2022 07:51 AM

Purchased commercial Speed Queen washer and dryer, gas, three years when we moved in. Bray and Scarff has excellent prices. In Maryland at the moment but great deal from a company up north that delivered both and the installation was easy.

dpdale 12-19-2022 07:51 AM

Best Buy has an outlet in Ocoee, near Orlando. We were told that Tuesday was the best day to shop, as they brought new mdse in on Monday. You have to be careful, as you are picking out the exact machine you will receive. Make sure everything you need for installation is there. We picked out a dishwasher that was missing a couple of things and it couldn’t be installed, and they don’t provide them. We ended up with a nice one, just not the one we picked out. Really good prices.

Ltwise3500 12-19-2022 07:53 AM

Buy Whirlpool. Most are made in my hometown of Clyde,Ohio
