Can you enter the open areas where the power lines run?

Need to practice some 50 - 75 yard golf shots. Just need an open area. Are these open strips of land off limits or accessible? I did hit some balls in an open area just North of Morse, near the gate from 27/441. But there is a nice open strip of land with the big power line structures real near me....would be perfect. Yes or no??

Bogie Shooter 01-21-2023 01:08 PM

Probably private property?

villagetinker 01-21-2023 01:42 PM

You will need to contact the power company that owns the land, and having worked for one up North, they will probably tell you NO due to liability concerns.

Marathon Man 01-21-2023 02:44 PM

Play a pitch and putt course. Work on your putting, too.

Bjeanj 01-21-2023 02:47 PM

What’s wrong with the driving ranges? Are you wanting to practice your chip shots? I agree with VT; probably need to get permission.

Chi-Town 01-21-2023 04:03 PM

Heck, if there is a large opening between two towers and nothing at all around just give it a try. You'll soon find out if it's OK. Might be a benefit of living next to power lines.

Can always ask for forgiveness

Most likely a varity of snakes in that grass. The types you don't want to see.

Since Morse runs pretty much north and south, what is the "open area just North of Morse"?

I know of 4 open areas within The Villages and several others nearby where it is appropriate to hit golf balls. They are called "driving ranges"

People are always walking their dogs in the open areas down south. Also, some of the walking trails go under the power lines.

... and not a single decent one, anywhere.

Chi-Town 01-21-2023 06:23 PM

It's definitely electric tower territory when I play De La Vista.

I guess it would be West of Morse. Right after the entrance gate from Spanish Springs. Looking over toward Freedom Point. Looking to the right traveling South on Morse.

Altavia 01-21-2023 08:38 PM

The electric power company usually has an easement to use the portion of land on which its towers and lines sit. However, an easement holder doesn't own the land.

Given public access is granted under power lines in multiple places in the Villages, seems those may be common areas.

Bikehike 01-21-2023 08:48 PM

A lot of them have signs that it is a construction area. No trespassing.

Calisport 01-21-2023 10:08 PM

I have an open power line meadow that people let their dogs run free. I personally would like to hit balls in my open backyard meadow but I feel that I would get into trouble somehow so I don't take my clubs out there besides all the critters that will be crawling up my legs. Dogs running free I don't mind so much. Or maybe a little chipping I've seen on the grass areas of Morse I think is passable. But hitting balls 50 - 100 yards - No.

Pete Swanson 01-22-2023 04:40 AM

Practice shots

I believe one reason for adding pitch and putts might satisfy your need. Suggest you be careful where you step if you hit balls in the power line areas.

Not sure you want to expose yourself to the power line transmission.

Powerline easements are not owned by T V. Access to TV by outsiders coming in thru the easements is not allowed at least S of 44 near my home. As there is a gate that was left unlocked and people were driving atv's thru it. T V put a lock on the gate. No signs saying you can't hit balls.

???? You’re hitting balls to nowhere. What’s the difference?

It's called a practice range.

NotGolfer 01-22-2023 08:14 AM

IF you have to ask....the answer most likely is a NO!! Just because you see people letting their dogs run out there doesn't make it right.

kansasr 01-22-2023 08:25 AM

A quick check of the ownership of the property that the power lines sit on that run through St Catherine and Citrus Grove indicate that those are owned by The Village CDD.

wamley 01-22-2023 08:35 AM

Hitting of mats, area around is in terrile condition for practicing chipping, putting areas also in questionalbe condition.

Bellavita 01-22-2023 08:51 AM

Try a driving range😎

Just do it and see what happens.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission.

I don't want to hit off mats. And the power line area near me has no fence, wide open, mowed fairly well. No signs to say Keep Out. But the dog poo, snakes and turtles may be a deterrent. And maybe the power lines emit harmful stuff. Think that area near the pond behind Freedom Point is my best bet.

Just pay for a bucket of balls at a driving range

Since you are asking, not sure if, you should ask. The most likely answer is NO. It is not wise to play around POWER LINES and no one will give you an OK to do so.

DonH57 01-22-2023 10:04 AM

Plenty of driving ranges. Some with mats, others alternate mats and turf daily. The putt and play or pitch and putt courses are around.

Go for it! Bonus…if you lose your ball you can climb a tower to look for it! FORE.

golfing foursomes should stick together and practice their deep drive delivery skills

Babubhat 01-22-2023 12:49 PM

Buying a bucket of balls is less expensive than hiring attorneys for both a criminal and/ or civil case.

TOMTOFVIL 01-22-2023 02:18 PM

I practiced yesterday for about an hour between power towers, no longer than 80 yds.

. Occasionally had to wait for dog walking a human. Best I could determine, there are no pitching practice areas available to the public within 30 miles. There is a green in the Palmer teaching area, but it’s a bit dicey due to slicers off the range. Let’s buy a small ranch and develop a chip, putt and pitch facility.
