Atomic cart owners….info requested

I am considering the purchase of an Atomic golf cart and hoping that some of the existing Atomic owners are willing to share some information. More specifically, I would like to know….

1). Did you purchase with the lithium upgrade?
2). Did you consider purchasing with the lead -acid batteries and then upgrade to lithium yourself?
3). How many batteries are actually in your cart and what are their specs and manufacturer?

Thank you in advance

ohioshooter 07-01-2023 03:56 PM

I did 2. What a difference the lithium makes. When I bought a year ago the wait for lithium was about 9 months. My only complaint is length of time it takes to charge. The system is 60v, I think the lithium is one unit, so with gel batteries it would be 5.

charlie1 07-01-2023 05:20 PM

We have a 2016 Atomic Coupe so had the original batteries replaced with lithium. Best move we ever made. They are great! I would be a little nervous buying lithium and installing myself. LIthium is a little dangerous if you are unfamiliar with all its little nuances.

By the way, there is a facebook group -Atomic Cool Kartz Owners. This is not affiliated with the Atomic Dealer. You may have to ask to join. Good place to maybe ask your question.

dhdallas 07-02-2023 05:42 AM

Atomic cars should be banned. They are NOT golf carts.

Great info. Can you please let me know the total cost of the new lithium batteries. Are they to last longer than the gel batteries? They should be huge weight reduction.

Don’t let one hater change your mind. They are legal and the best value out there. PM if you have any further questions.

kansasr 07-02-2023 11:46 AM

Funny, but mine works just fine on the golf course.

banjobob 07-03-2023 06:29 AM

I am not a fan for these little cars , personally I think they are ridicules form of transportation. For really old folks might be an option instead of open air golf cart.

I have owned the cart since 2017
I started with lead acid and recently upgraded to lithium
I would upgrade the cart handles better and the distance you can travel with a/c on is incredible
Atomic installed the batteries I have found them to be honest and reliable

rsmurano 07-03-2023 06:43 AM

We test drove 1 and compared it to the Yamaha. The atomic are very cool looking but that’s it. The price when we looked was $3,000 more than the Yamaha for acid batteries then you had to upgrade to lithium for a few more thousands. Then we drove 1 and they are cheaply made. It did go faster, has the doors, air, etc.. but wasn’t the same quality as the Yamaha.
Lithium is the better way to go vs acid batteries but you have a few issues with any electric cart: it better be charged because if you get across town and you run out of juice, you’re screwed. The range on electric carts is very low vs Yamaha gas mile range.

A friend of mine bought a pre-owned cart with lead acid batteries. He just completed the upgrade to Lithium and it makes all the difference in the world. He also had Atomic get it "street legal" so he can drive it on roads with posted speeds of 35 mph, or less (Buena Vista, Morse, parts of Warm Springs, Meggison). Air conditioned, heated, windshield wipers, radio and 30 mph - he loves it in all seasons. He does not use it for golf, though, Yamaha is his cart of choice.

Cost was over 3k to replace the batteries in my coupe. They told me the cart is 400 pounds lighter. It does have a lot more zip! There is, I believe, a 5 year warranty on the batteries. Probably need a couple of years before we find out how long they actually last. After almost a year, I do not see any differences in performance from when they were new.

We really enjoy the Atomic on bad weather/hot days. We also have a Yamaha that we use for the nice days. We do not use the Atomic to golf but do have the golf attachments.

I really also trust the people at Atomic. They have only been honest to me in all the years I have owned an Atomic!

OhioBuckeye 07-03-2023 08:05 AM

What about price for a Lithium?

Tadpole 07-03-2023 08:45 AM

I have a 2020 Atomic coupe with regular batts. They died exactly 3 yrs later. I then bought lithium batt in Feb of this year. Cost incl. tax = $3,830.60. They should last 8-10 years and you can drive up to 90 miles on a charge.

tophcfa 07-03-2023 08:57 AM

I rode in one and quickly concluded they are not for me for two reasons, not even considering the gas versus electric debate. First, at 6’1” tall and 195 lbs., I felt claustrophobic inside the tiny cockpit. Second, I felt like it cheated the passengers out of the true golf cart open air experience. If I want features offered in a car, I’ll drive a car, I’m not looking for that experience in a golf cart. And besides, how could I do the man spread and hang my knee out of the cart with that friggin door getting in the way? That being said, I’m seeing more and more of them as time passes, so they obviously fit the needs/desires of some Villagers.

merrymini 07-03-2023 08:59 AM

Sold our electric cart and replaced it with an atomic cart. We do not play golf, so having doors is an advantage for us. Has heat and ac and makes much more sense in rain or bad weather. The cost of a regular golf cart has gotten so high that it made sense to replace it with the atomic cart. The lithium batteries weight less than traditional batteries, so less tonnage. Love it. Drawbacks, the radio sucks.

If you love China and approve of their communist government, then by all means buy one.

What is the most you’ve actually driven on a charge, and at what percent of charge was left? I’ve only driven to just under 50% and that was low 40’s miles. On mine the A/C reduces mileage by about 30/40%. This is the first post I’ve seen that actually had some good info. Now if we could keep the hater’s away. Not quite as bad as the gas vs electric posts though.

The irony of comments like that is Joe C is probably typing on his made in China iPhone or android, or laptop, watching his made in China TV. Driving his car with Saudi oil and enjoying the lower gas prices due to world supplies from Iran and Russia keeping the cost lower than it otherwise would be. Etc. etc. ......

So go ahead and be holier than thou about trade with countries you don't approve of. Because the only reason a person might buy a product is because they love the nation of origin.

OP, post #3 where Atomic Cool Kartz Owners hookup on Facebook seems to be good advice to get answers for potential Atomic owners. One of my regular golfing buddies has one and loves it. To each their own. Good luck.

Atomic cart owners….info requested

Also look into Wink carts (Wink Motors.com) May be less expensive than Atomic.

30MPH in an Atomic cart in traffic? Sounds like a death wish.

Not holier than thou, but an ardent, passionate hater of Communism/Socialism.
Buying a golf cart is a "major purchase", not an incidental like a cellphone or laptop.
There is enough golf cart competition around here to get something made in the U.S.A. or Japan without relying on something possibly made with forced labor.

tuccillo 07-03-2023 12:41 PM

Really? Most of the cr*p you buy comes from China, including most of your meds.

Here is my experience on the lithium batteries. My coupe gets about a mile for every 1.1 to 1.2% of the battery life when NOT using the A/C. When using the A/C, we use about 1.5-1.6% of the battery life per mile.

Thanks for the reply, almost the same as mine. If I keep it at 22 mph I can get 1 for 1 without A/C. What’s the lowest % you have gone? Rob said to watch the voltage also and not to get it down to the mid 50’s. I’ve never been below 64v.

ChicagoNative 07-03-2023 04:26 PM

We switched to the lithium-powered Kool Kart when we moved here full-time. With the ac, the range is maybe 60 miles. We live about a mile west of Buena Vista off Rainey Trail. Round trip to Spanish springs is 14 miles, takes 25% of the charge, and is about a 20 minute one-way trip. Round trip to Lake Sumter is almost exactly half of that.

Brownwood is doable, but the path route takes almost an hour even though it’s closer than the other 2 squares. Street legal cuts 20-25 minutes off the trip.

If you are one who likes going from one end of the villages to the other via cart paths, it’s probably better to stick with gas.

Also, with the Kool Kart, we’ve experienced a lot of stink-eye and occasional nasty comments from people, but that really doesn’t matter to me.

I’d guess that 95% of the carts that people see are Yamahas or Club Cars, and the the Kool Karts do look like smart cars, so double takes are to be expected.

LSV's are legally restricted to 25 MPH, but we know how that goes. I have seen non-LSV Atomic carts doing over 30 on the MMP's.

The nasty comments are from people who wished they had a/c but don't want to (or can't) pay the extra $3,000. They should have worked longer and saved more. I also have a Yamaha gas it's a great cart and I kept it in case, of what I'm not sure, I have put (actually my friends) 300 miles on it in 4 years.

been down in the high thirties. Usually keep cart fully charged so really have to take a long trip to get that low. Rob never told me to watch the voltage but will now! Thanks

How do you get the voltage with the coupe? Did you install a volt meter or is displayed in the instrument cluster somewhere?

That is illegal. LSV max speed by law is 25 mph.

Yamaha's sold in TV with the governor fully open won't do 30 on a level road. You have to add bigger tires and some mechanical alterations. Actually it's been Lidar for over 10 years. Not very hard to clock a cart on the MMP adjacent to Buena Vista, Morse or Meggison.

When you upgrade to lithium, they add a new digital gauge that has three readings. One is the battery charge in one ten of a percent increments, another is voltage, and the third I'm not sure what it monitors. Probably should ask.

I’m not sure what it is either, but I only use the two you mentioned.
