How well will the US Women to in the '23 World Cup?
Will the US Women win the 2023 Soccer World Cup? And what place do you expect them to be if they do not?
|
It will be interesting 5 cities in Australia and 4 cities in New Zealand 32 countries competing in 64 games

I don't follow them as closely as I used to when my daughter was playing soccer. . I put down the third, unsure of how they will meet in the quarter semi finals. . un-retired pickup soccer player |
The American women's concentration will be on other things besides soccer.
I voted 4th Place for them. 1st - Germany 2nd - Sweden 3rd - England, playing USA for 3rd place play-off |

FIFA Women's team rankings. 2023.
FIFA Women's World Ranking - Wikipedia
I enjoy watching these games on TV. Was a bit of a soccer uncle twenty years ago with my niece. |
According to our newspapers, England have already won the World Cup.
Everyone else is playing for second place. They say that every four years about the men's team as well. They were right back once back in 1966. It always ends in tears! My tip for the 'Most Violent Team' award is Colombia. They do not take prisoners! :boxing2: |
Free Tickets
They're giving away 20,000 free tickets if you want to go. Apparent lack of interest these days in the US Womens Team. I used to watch them...

Well, I'd watch it, but there is some paint I need to watch dry...

And the foot rarely hits the ball in football as played by many in the United States. |
Probably not going to be fun to watch. The U.S. Women’s team lost to a team of 15 year old boys. Meh.
|
Some of the other teams which have played look like they are quite good.
|
Was looking forward to watching the game against Vietnam until I saw most of the team deciding to not participate in our national anthem-No 'hands on heart' or any sing along participation. Are they representing this country or not? I'm not even sure what exactly they were protesting-I thought they all just got a big equal pay win? Hate to ruin a good soccer conversation, but their inactions ruined my enjoyment. And please, don't mistake my comments here for a political diatribe, because whether you are right or left wing, it's still our country's national anthem.
|
They have a history of disrespecting this country. I have no use for that in my life.

You are wrong. They obviously do not.

So I would tell all male soccer players that can't make the male MLS to declare they are women and try out for female MLS. And basketball players, the WNBA. Pretty soon, females will only be able to play pick up games, as biological males will dominate every sport. |
On your poll choices, you forgot one.

HISTORY via Newsweek: Among the players who stayed silent was forward Megan Rapinoe, who ahead of the 2019 World Cup told Yahoo Sports that she was probably never going to sing the national anthem again. The player was the first in the team to kneel down during the anthem following NFL player Colin Kaepernick's protest against racial injustice in 2016, and the first white athlete to do so. PRESENT ACTIONS: Stand in silence for the national anthem as most other coaches and fans sing along. Many looking down or elsewhere, other than at the flag. As if they cannot tolerate being there. That's not how people act who are proud of the country they represent in front of the rest of the world. Meanwhile, Vietnam team shown clearly proud of their country and national anthem and were all singing it. |
After seeing a report most of the team failed to sing or hold their hand over their heart during the national anthem I no longer consider them an American team.

LII U.S. Code Title 36 Subtitle I Part A CHAPTER 3 § 301
Quick search by citation: Title Section 36 U.S. Code § 301 - National anthem U.S. Code Notes (a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem. (b) Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem— (1) when the flag is displayed— (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; (B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and (C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed. (Pub. L. 105–225, Aug. 12, 1998, 112 Stat. 1263; Pub. L. 110–417, [div. A], title V, § 595, Oct. 14, 2008, 122 Stat. 4475.) (Nothing said about singing) |
(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart;
The majority of players failed to face the flag and place their hand over their heart. Some are ok with them acting this way, others are not. Citing flag code is not going to change minds. |

This is mainly a political matter for those team members so we should not be discussing it here. I mean the flag saluting fight.
