Very inexpensive at Publix (chicken livers) or Walmart $2-$3 price range cook about 6 min I prefer them hot.

Gpsma 07-29-2023 06:22 PM

Im talking about beef liver

Chi-Town 07-29-2023 07:06 PM

Didn't see liverwurst last time I was there.

They should close the place down, because they're the worst managed restaurant in TV.

The last time I was there, they said they no longer serve spinach knishes. Only the potato. That's a shame as well. But I still love the place and we'll still be patroms.

coralway 07-29-2023 08:24 PM

getting rid of liver and spinach are steps in the right direction. Love that place.

kkingston57 07-29-2023 09:14 PM

Bet that 1% +/- orders liver and onions. Personally I hate it.

Sabella 07-30-2023 04:34 AM

I agree too jays at Lake Sumter Landing used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The restaurant has been sold. There are all new employees there and new major company owns them. The menu has changed and the place has gone downhill. I will not be eating there anymore either.

Two Bills 07-30-2023 04:42 AM

Calves liver, bacon, fried onions and cabbage with a thick onion gravy, would be my 'last meal' request!

Years ago there was a restaurant in Lady Lake called Dinner Bell. My grandparents too me there all the time so they could get liver an onions.

ChicagoNative 07-30-2023 06:14 AM

Whenever I see a restaurant billed as “NY style”, it usually means it's overpriced, overrated, over-hyped, and it under-delivers.

Bay Kid 07-30-2023 06:58 AM

They do have good chicken salad!

ThirdOfFive 07-30-2023 07:22 AM

What TV needs is a good ALBANIAN restaurant!

justjim 07-30-2023 08:26 AM

Too Jays quality has been tapering off for the last several years. We haven’t been there for more than a year. If it recently sold, the owners were smart to say goodbye.

Chi-Town 07-30-2023 09:22 AM

What kind of deli doesn't have liverwurst?

I felt the same way about Ruby Tuesday's a few years ago when they stopped serving bison burgers.

I mentioned to the waitress that it was my favorite meal there and she said, "Yes, they were very popular".

Dropping popular items is usually a great way to run a restaurant. Into the buffers!

njbchbum 07-30-2023 10:55 AM

Liver n onions has been a Wednesday special at Orange Blossom Country Club - check out the ad in the Daily Sun on Wed.

427dave 07-30-2023 11:53 AM

Terrible

We went to Too-Jays in Brownwood the other Sunday morning for breakfast. It was the worse breakfast we have ever had in The Villages and surrounding areas!

Sounds great, like the stuff I enjoyed as a young buck up on the "tundra" of northern Minnesota. Sans cabbage, though.

Lunalou 07-31-2023 04:48 AM

They still have liver and onions. In fact it is a special on Thursday nights.

Probably would have a very small clientele , I have never been to one though.

Blackbird45 07-31-2023 05:42 AM

I'm a New York and though I will go to Too Jays occasionally, it really never compares to the Jewish restaurants I grew up with and I'm not Jewish.

bowlingal 07-31-2023 05:48 AM

Holy Moly!!! call the food police !!!

MidWestIA 07-31-2023 05:53 AM

We have always had excellent experiences at the Toojays in Brownwood. The manager there is friendly and attentive, as is the wait staff. Great place to go after an early round of golf for a late breakfast.

EXACTLY! We went in once. Operative word: “once”…

NoMo50 07-31-2023 06:03 AM

My mother used to make the best liver and onions with bacon, and we would have it about once a week. Fast forward to adulthood...my wife hates the stuff. She won't eat it, won't cook it, and doesn't want me cooking it either. She hates the smell of it. I have yet to find a restaurant that makes it the way mom did. If I close my eyes and think real hard, I can still feature the smell of my mother cooking as I walk into the house after playing baseball with my friends. That could almost bring tears to my eyes!

RickyLee 07-31-2023 07:00 AM

You should thank them for attempting to reduce your doctor visits. Plus your arteries will thank you.

That's pretty funny. I guess you love you some liver and onions.

Toojays emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with new owners in September 2020.
Since it failed to make money in it's previous "life" things had to change - it's a business practice to continuously look at items that don't sell well or a have a low profit margin to change as customer's tastes change or costs increase.

As for not being well run it's almost always a personnel thing. What food service business today doesn't have a problem in this areas?

If you don't like the restaurant you have so many other choices.

jparsoneau@aol.com 07-31-2023 08:47 AM

I have never liked liver and onions.
Nor do I care for spinach.
So far so good

ahrens fox 07-31-2023 09:40 AM

Last night my dinner salad was 3 onion rings, 2 cucumber slices, and lettuce. Apparently they didn't want to make much of an effort.

Liver is one of the most nutritional foods you can eat, as are most offal's

Nothing wrong with onions either.
Bacon? In moderation, never killed anyone
