AED’S in the Villages
For all the Money that we pay out to the Villages why are we the ones to Pay for the AED’S?
It seems like they don’t really care about the residents, their only concern is Building and Selling Homes. |

You just discovered the real reason everything happens here.
Remember that whenever you wonder why something happens |

You bought a house from the Villages, not a room in a senior care center where everything is provided for you. That is the next step. |
Just a thought
Snowbird season is on us. You will have most of your Village residing here soon, if they aren’t here already. What an opportunity to meet everyone and get a drive going. We had ours last fall till spring and just had the last of them installed here. The mounting posts even have solar chargers for the units.
You could do a neighborhood garage sale, volunteer to collect at the postal center, have a donation dinner at the recreational center etc. Good Luck |

My village has them disbursed throughout the neighborhood. They were paid for and maintained by the residents and staffed by volunteers in the neighborhood. I'm trained to use them and when I'm finally a Frog, I'm sign up to be one of the volunteers... |

Sure for about $1000.00 more per home The Villages could install an AED in every home, but that still leaves lots of gaps.
1. While not difficult AEDs/CPR require some training. 2. If your home alone, it's not going to help. The idea behind AED program is to get trained help there as quick as possible. There is a 10% loss for every minute care is delayed. The fire dept will make it to your home in 4-5 minutes, your neighbors in 2 minutes or less. 3. Even if you have an AED are you going to be calm enough to save a loved ones life. For the cost on a lunch a year you can save a life. |

Do you want the villages to pay for all your medical too? And if they didn’t, could you say they didn’t care about their people?
Nothing is free even if someone tells you it is. Personally it would have been cheaper if the villages bought all the aed’s and then charged every person a 1 time charge in their ssu bill. But a lot of people would have complained about this too. |
The cost is pretty trivial compared to the life saved. The AEDs are only part of the equation, as there needs to be people that know how to use them. Take a CPR course, get AED training, and maybe save a life.

Go back where you came fro:if all you want to do is complain.

A similar article appeared in the ************** a few days ago. It appears the motivation behind that article and this thread is concern about who pays.
We all pay in some way or another, some ways obvious and other ways not so obvious. The costs of AED machines in rec centers and Villages public spaces are most likely paid for by all of us in our fees. The AED machines within each village ( 8 of them in my village) are paid for by village residents who believe that quick access to these machines is worthwhile. Beyond the machines, there are other costs. All of us also pay for AED service through our taxes. Every county around here responds to 911 cardiac associated calls by dispatching paramedics AND by notifying emergency alert services such as PulsePoint, which sends out calls to volunteer responders, who might be able to get to the victim before the paramedics do. {As mentioned above, for a true ventricular fibrillation event the chance of survival falls by 10% every minute. If your neighbor can start a rescue operation in 2-3 minutes there might be a 70-80% chance of survival. Waiting for the 12 minute average paramedic response time uses up 120% of that chance of survival. Which would you like if you were the victim?} Lastly, some of our neighbors pay by volunteering their time to learn CPR, learn where to find the nearest AED and how to use them, and by being willing to run and help a neighbor. Maybe we need a Do Not Respond list for those who feel the costs are not reasonable? |
Just call 911, they will bring one to you.

"The Villages," aka the Developer, is in the business of building and selling homes, along with providing the opportunities to live the lifestyle we all know and love. Using your misguided "logic," shouldn't the Developer also:
1. Provide everyone with a golf cart? They did, after all, provide the pathways to drive them on. 2. Provide everyone with golf clubs? They did build all of these golf courses. 3. Provide everyone with a bonus $100 per month to shop at the Squares? I still find it incredible the lengths to which some people will go to find something to complain about. Experience has shown me that folks like that have not been, are not, and never will be happy. They tend to seek personal satisfaction by dragging others into their personal journey circling the drain. When you see AED units interspersed throughout a neighborhood, that is the result of a Village that has come together with the common goal of looking out for each other. People that have made monetary donations, volunteered their time, participated in training, all in order to enrich the quality and quantity of life in their neighborhood. You won't see me, or anyone I know, complaining about that. |
To the OP, crickets are chirping for your answers to questions that legitimate insightful residents asked you; why the zipped lips?
The time will come when you or a loved one or even a visiting friend has a cardiac event - that’s when you’ll realize why there neighborhood AED’s….. |

They are locked, someone has to be available 24-7 who has access to key. Then, has to be ready to get there. In my area emergencies services are available in around 4 mins. A lot of things has to fall in line for resident to get there by 4 mins. Now if I lived in Sumter county and beyond turnpike east area then resident might beat emergencies service due to pass history in Sumter county. Funny how new villager asks question then usual jumps all over them with their superior snide comments.

AED Locations
1 Attachment(s)
First of all, there are a lot of AEDs around TV. (image should now be attached) We even have a guy at the Squares that walks around with them during the entertainment every night !
The Pulse Point app will show you where many of them are located, has written details and even pictures of the AEDs. Anyone that reads this should load Pulse Point AED app to their phone - you never know when you'll be able to save a life. Pulse Point AED works anyway on our Planet ! With Sudden Cardiac Arrest every minute counts !! |

You may have seen them, but might not have known what they are... Or, your neighborhood might not have purchased them... |

As mentioned, some villages don’t have the program, it’s resident run. A study was done…. The Villages residents are four times more likely than other Americans to survive a cardiac event. the AED program is part of it, the proximity of fire department is another. |
OMG, surely this post is not for real.

Probably not. The builder builds homes and provides us a wonderful community. They are not a rich uncle who buys us candy every time we go to the corner store. This can be a huge liability exposure for a large corporation. Your neighbors spent their own money to provide this service. I trust you will never be in need of one. |
