Comfortable casual shoes

Which shoe stores around here (no online please) have everyday walkers. Not golf shoes, not sports shoes, not hiking boots. Simple everyday shoes. Leather or fabric uppers OK. Cushiony without being a dedicated sports shoe.

Prefer buying from a store so we can try on without shipping back and forth.

Sketchers store in the Target Plaza on the other (south) end.

Kohl’s

Shoe Biz same shopping center as Best Buy
Sketchers store

If you need a narrow width, it is almost impossible to find a store that has them in stock.

One place that has comfortable shoes is SAS in Brownwood. Although, they are expensive and ugly.

I buy Rockport Prowalkers Model 7100 from Amazon and they are very easy to return, if necessary. They may have them at Macy's in Ocala. I have probably worn out 10 pairs or so in the past 20 years. Very comfortable shoes.

PJ_Smiley 11-28-2023 05:06 PM

I love my Sketchers.

Sketchers has about 1400 styles of mens and womens shoes, but only 2 come in a narrow width. Go figure.

tophcfa 11-28-2023 05:39 PM

Crocs and Sketchers (including golf shoes) are the only footwear I own/wear at our Village’s home. The Sketchers outlet mentioned in post #2 typically has a good selection.

villagetinker 11-28-2023 09:30 PM

I have found that the arch fit sneakers are the most comfortable for me. As you can see there will be lots of replies for comfortable shoes. My suggestion will be to go to one or more department stores with shoe departments and start trying these on. Good luck with your quest.

shaw8700@outlook.com 11-28-2023 09:38 PM

Every single pair of shoes I have, and most of what my husband has, comes from Skechers.

Rande 11-29-2023 04:12 AM

Take a ride to Dillards in Ocala. Very nice variety of men’s and women’s shoes that you won’t find in stores here. Ecco brand are great and very comfortable.

Shoe biz in Brownwood and up off 441

"Brooks" tennis shoes----I get them at Shoe Biz in Lady Lake near Best Buy. They have great "walking shoes".

Another vote for Skechers as the most comfortable. Even have Skechers sneakers for softball.

Chandra10100 11-29-2023 05:49 AM

I suggest trying on a pair of Hokas. Your whole body will thank you. It took a few days for me to notice the difference. My feet, knees, hips and back all feel better after walking in Hokas.

DonnaNi4os 11-29-2023 05:52 AM

There is The Good Foot Syore, For Feets Sake at Sumter, another at the stores on 441 near Best Buy, Skechers and a store at Brownwood that sells SAS shoes. All of these sell great walking shoes.

JanetH 11-29-2023 05:59 AM

I have worn Brooks exclusively for my walking and they are awesome . I’ve tried many and for walking the best ! Not sure who carries them here though . Just moved here ourselves.

bowlingal 11-29-2023 06:06 AM

Bealls

huge-pigeons 11-29-2023 06:27 AM

Sketchers Up on 441. Join their club before going. I get an email almost everyday from them offering 20-30% off plus $$$ off for joining the club, this is on top off the sales price at the store. (Some restrictions sometimes where the coupons are only good online but this has been rare occurrences).
I also own crocs and rockport shoes but I always go to Sketchers 1st to see what they have before going to other places

Fleet Feet in Colony Plaza

I recently visited Fleet Feet in Colony Plaza for a new pair of walking around shoes. They had me stand on a special mat that uses lasers to measure every aspect of my feet. It was amazing how there are so many slight differences between the left and right foot. The analysis indicated the type of shoe that would best serve my needs, and the store staff brought out several pairs so that I could try various levels of cushioning. The winner was the Hoka with the mid-level cushioning, which worked well for my wide feet. I was so impressed that I brought my wife in, who was also measured and found that the Brooks model was the best fit for her narrow feet. Both types were more expensive than the typical sneakers, but were very well constructed and fit us properly. For us, there will be no more hit or miss, trying on shoes from a stack of boxes.

NoMo50 11-29-2023 06:44 AM

My go-to shoes for general walking around, no-activity, are Hey Dudes. They are almost like walking around barefoot, and most styles are machine washable. The Flip Flop Shop in Spanish Springs carries a large selection of Dudes. They also carry Olukai, which is another excellent choice.

SAS in Brownwood. The most comfortable shoes I have ever had. They are a bit pricey, but, worth it.

Bridget Staunton 11-29-2023 07:04 AM

Don’t like to post negative stuff. Biz, Brownwood was very rude to my laid back husband and he never gets upset

So, the laser gizmo selected off-the-rack shoes, but they did not offer to make custom shoes?

In the old days, if they didn't have your size, the saleperson would automatically tell you that these shoes run small or large depending on what they had in stock.

skippy05 11-29-2023 07:13 AM

Walmart sells the Sketchers unbranded shoe for $29 vs branded at Kohls for $125. Same exact shoe.

Head on over to Belk, it’s in the northern older section. They carry ladies shoes called Bzees. They are fantastic. Come in all sorts of styles, and they are truly the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I have loafers, sandles, slip ons. I get them online, but Belk carries them. Macys also carries them but that is not in the villages.

Huh? According to the Kohl's website, they have 215 styles of Skecher shoes, but the highest price listed is $90.

Try the Bealls' outlet store in Colony Plaza. You might find something that appeals to you for less money.

If true, that is one heck of an expensive label/logo. As an aside, only $125 sketchers I have seen are at full list price. Very few sold at listed price.

Johnsocat 11-29-2023 08:44 AM

I ordered my husband some shoes from Orthofeet.com
Every time he puts them on he tells me how much he loves them. The ones I got him have zippers in the back so he doesn't have to tie them.
They come with 4 different ortho inserts to choose from.
Lots of choices in style and fit.

This may not be what you're looking for but my go to, every day shoe is actually a sandal from Birkenstock. I wear them everywhere, I don't even care that it's 38° out right now, lol. Whenever I put anything else on they feel totally inferior. I wear socks with them too and I like them so much I don't care what anybody thinks about that, lol. They are relatively common at stores that sell only shoes. A little pricey though at about $130

dlebuis 11-29-2023 08:50 AM

I second Sketchers. Was able to get a very comfortable slip on shoe.

retiredguy123 11-29-2023 08:59 AM

Note that there is no "t" in Skechers.

Note that the highest list price for a pair of Skecher shoes on Kohl's website is $90. That is before any of the numerous Kohl's discounts.
