Seen on FB - Water management plans submitted for a new Costco off 466 near Hobby Lobby?
|
Seems like it would be hard/waste of time to fake this, but who knows?

If Don says so, then it's so!!!! All the Katie Bells cheapskates are gonna put Costco out of
business with the free samples and $1.50 hot dog/drink meals, hahaha!! What's the over/under bet on who will be the first to ask if it's golf cart accessible (good luck getting your purchases home) and who will be the first to gripe about traffic/parking? How long until this makes it onto all the major Villages YouTube sites? The Developer should'a scooped this with the news themselves - lost opportunity to show they still control their PR narrative. Man! The lines for gasoline are gonna be miles long! P.S.- Kudos to Altavia to being the first to discover and disseminate this news! Next task: Trader Joe's. Not for the skinflints, however. |

Probably not great news for all the other big box stores in the area. |

You would think, since there is already a Sam's and BJ's in that area, Costco would do better further south (either on 44 or 466A). But they have no doubt done the research and most certainly know what will work best.

Surprised it’s not going in south of 44. |
I have been saying for awhile that they are coming you can thank me now.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer on Costco, but this is a terrible location. The traffic will be horrendous! One has to remember a Costco will draw customers from outside of The Villages. It is likely that both Wedgewood Lane and Woodbridge Drive will need to be increased to four lanes, stop lights, turn lanes, etc. The infrastructure is just not there to support a store this large.
I hope Costco comes to the area, just not here. Lastly, for the other commenters, I would think you will lose golf cart access to Costco and all the businesses west of the planned location. |
Costco congestion
I agree it’s surprising Costco decided on that location given the amount of additional traffic they will generate. Sounds like gridlock will be a possibility unless access and egress is greatly improved. Love Costco coming but it maybe easier for us south of 44 to keep going to Clermont.

I would think that in all the years it was in the development, all the above factors mentioned, were taken into consideration. Costco is not known to be an impulsive corporation.
Given that they sell in bulk, you might not want to shop strictly by golf cart. |
With the huge amount of new homes south of the Turnpike, Morse, Meggison and 301 are going to be even worse with this draw on the north side. Ugh.

I was thinking the same thing. I am hoping a Walmart or Walmart Market will come to 44 so I don't have to drive to the Buffalo Ridge Walmart. I would have thought Costco would see the benefit to sit on 44 closer to the interstate -- picking up the Villages, Ocala, and Leesburg. The Costco on Route 50 in Clermont, even with Tolls, is more appealing to me -- South of 44. Excited for Sumter County and The Villages, though. |

To me, when you look at things, 466 is an overall better location. Established population, close to 301, close to Ocala, not a bad drive from Gainesville plus golf cart accessible. |

Lose golf cart access? Nah. Them other stores will have a say. |

I moved here from Oregon 4 years ago. From my home in Beaverton, we had 5 Costco's within 25 minutes. All has 95% of the same products, but that other 5% got me to visit each of them quite frequently. Costco works on volume and knowing its customers. The new Clermont Costco is quite busy and quite crowded, so they have new data for their future plans. The Villages and its partners now own that huge swath of land between I-75/301 and 44/Colman. That's a lot of acreage to fill with residential, commercial, and industrial development. Perhaps in my lifetime <grin and a wink>. |

However, South OC is quite dense and has an exceptionally high average household disposable income. It is not dense like NYC, but dense like L.A., with a higher household income. That is why shops like Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, etc. are all either South Coast Plaza or Fashion Island malls. Many 2nd tier stores at nearby Shoppes at Mission Viejo also. Not sure The Villages can boast that type of demographic that would encourage Costco to build yet a third Villages-adjacent store. Or TJ's even a single store : ( |
Ohhhhhhh noooooooo!
