Friendliest Town?
 

All right so my wife in a car and another motorist in a car had a little stand off as to who should go first around a parked truck on the road. Right out in front of our house. The guy was in a hurry and did not want to wait. They were car to car. The nice fellow with his wife in the passenger seat goes around on the grass roles down his window and yells to my wife get the F out of the way or I am going to Fing Kill you.
My wife was so shaken she did not get the license plate number or come in and get me.
That was not very Friendly.

Obviously, this was uncalled for. However, there are rules of the road that govern who should proceed first (the person with the lane/side that is NOT blocked goes first). If people follow the rules, there is much less conflict. So, which vehicle was driving on the opposite side of the road to go around?

That guy was a real romantic, huh?!

I know what I would’ve done but then again, I’m not letting a couple of tool bags come between me and my liberty (ie; jail). That said, hopefully you or your neighbors have decent Ring cameras that can identify the individuals or their plate information. If it played out the way you described, the threat alone is a criminal matter. You could file a police report but without those details, it’s not going to bear much fruit.

The nice fellow behind pick up truck, my wife in open lane to go by the pick up truck. Filed a police report. I have a Eufy but does not go that far out

If it was a pickup truck, chances are it wasn’t a Villager… although a few do own pick ups but not many.

Lots of crazy medicated/doped up people out there. Then, there ones that are just crazy and need medicated :22yikes:. They was crazy where came from and villages didn’t magically cure them. :icon_bored: Top it off most don’t know how do 4 way stop. You got stop before you’re in line and guy on right has right of way. Another problem when two from opposite direction meet at intersection at same time and one turning?

Just this morning I was futzing around in the driveway, getting things in order for my snowbird departure.
A neighbor, 5 doors down, whom I had never met pulls up in his golf cart and says "I noticed you couldn't get to the top of your holly bush when you and your wife were trimming. I have an 8-foot ladder. Would you like to borrow it?"

Sure, so we go back to his place, get the ladder, set it up and he looks at me and says "are you comfortable with ladders?" I said "not totally but I have never fallen off one, yet", so he says "here, I'll do it. I've spent most of my life on ladders", so he proceeds to trim the top of the holly bush for me.

My neighbor's name is Larry. He's a nice man. For every jerk like the guy in the OP, there are dozens and dozens of Larrys in TV.

Take a few deep breaths, and be thankful to live here, with all of the Larrys.

Wonder how much damage he did to the yard he drove through?

Some time back a lady (not a Villager) was visiting our neighbor across the street. Came time to leave, her car, which was in the neighbor's driveway, wouldn't start: just enough energy in the battery for a couple of groans and then just clicking. I was out doing yard work and noticing her plight, offered to help. She was pretty worked up, planning on calling a road service to get her car towed to wherever it could be fixed. Being an ex-Minnesotan I never go anywhere without a pair of jumper cables, so I offered to jump her car and at least get it running. I had to manually push it out of the driveway onto the street (lady steered with the dead car in neutral) but once the cables were on it started right up. As she was not from around here I recommended a repair shop where I take our car, cautioning her not to turn the car off until she got there. She did, got her battery replaced, and all was well.

The point is that similar things are the norm in TV rather than the exception. Sure, there are always exceptions, but Villagers helping Villagers (and non-Villagers) are common occurrences.

Yes, wazup with the friendliest home town. Not with wazup with a crazy jerk driver.
Incident has little to do with Florida’s friendliest home time slogan. Just a jerk who most likely has always been a jerk.

As far as I am concerned this is a very friendly place

I think The Villages is basically friendly, but TV and the whole world is not as gentle and kind as the world used to be.
My wife and I are both pretty cautious and polite drivers - yes, it often does take us an extra minute to get somewhere.
Our rule is to always let someone who seems aggressive and in a big hurry to just get on ahead of us. Any confrontation could turn out to be very bad news nowadays, there are a lot of pretty crazed folks driving around.

You don't have to be a Christian to ask, "what would Jesus do?" I'm an agnostic, but I often ask that question. I find it helps me to be more patient and avoid confrontation with jerks who have no patience of their own.

Yeah, I find I'm on one extreme or the other. I am a huge pushover and very giving for people that treat me well, I am 'difficult' when people are an a$$ to me.

Who said “with certainty”? A very few Villagers do have pickup trucks watch your neighbors, I’m in north central and out of 100 owners, maybe 1 has a pick up.

I think I'm 1 of 3 pickups in my little area. That's 3 houses out of about 25 or 30.

On my street at home the next 3 houses in each direction have a pickup (I'd guess it's about 40% of all vehicles).

It would be an interesting graphic to see it for all areas of the US or the world.

It's certainly less here but I bet there are more than you think. I currently have 3 full size pickups all in.

I don’t blame the OP for being angry, if that happened to my wife I would be on the hunt for the idiot as well. But I also agree with others, don’t paint the Villages with a broad brush because of one incident. There are jerks everywhere in this world. Unfortunately, I have been up north for about a month now since spending over three wonderful months in the Villages this winter. I easily have come across more aholes in a short period up north than I did over the entire winter. It’s all relative.

Nobody is immune. Even in a bubble!

People from every where are cutting through The Villages. With all the growth with houses and apartments near Trailwinds and Pinellas, they are using the streets in The Villages. Many have no idea on how to use the circles. It will only get worse with all of the continued growth in Wildwood.

Just be thankful you are not jerk’s wife. You can take deep breath and move on to have a great day. She probably can’t. Say a prayer for both of them to find some happiness in this world. They both seem to be unhappy people.

Title of “friendliest hometown” or lack of makes me wonder.

when TV was first built was there an interview process before one could buy to make sure every resident had the same attitude, upbringing to be only nice, or was there something pumped into the air to make everyone see rainbows and lollipops (or koolaide)?

We find most people anywhere we have lived to be happy to help, or offer a smile even when your day just sucks. But I have never expected every person to be friendly, or expect them to make my day better.

Even here one finds if you offer help such as to a handicapped person, they are either happy to accept or yell at you for thinking they need your help. Does that make them friendly or unfriendly, not really. Does one stop offering because of a rejection, No.

Because my grandma would “Slap me all the way to next Tuesday” if I didn’t offer, cause that’s the way some are raised.

But not everyone is going to be that person, and I don’t expect them to.

Thanks for sharing your story. I would have been shaken up by this incident as well. There’s rudeness, and then there’s a violent threat. The latter happened, and that’s scary, but good the situation didn’t escalate. Also, unfortunately you never know who’s carrying a weapon. With that guy, wouldn’t want to find out.

I must be getting melllow as I age…I’d reverse & let him go first. It’s not worth the hassle; I have a few minutes to spare & he’s obviously acting oddly. Starting that way, it would only escalate.
