Shallow Creek...bring a big wallet!

A fellow Villager and I went to Shallow Creek today at 10:30 to play 18. He lives near Lopez ,I live near LSL (21 and 16 miles away), so we drove in a car. We paid $120 for the golf then asked where to pick up a cart. Was told a cart would be another $30. So $75 apiece...shocking!

The course is in nice shape, pretty wide open and overall pretty easy. But I won't be going back. We could have played Mission Inn El Campeon for $30 less...

UpNorth 07-15-2024 04:07 PM

$30 for a cart? Folks in The Villages think it is a great idea to play the "Championship" courses in their own cart. Makes all the green fees overpriced by $30. Developers laugh all the way to the bank.

dewilson58 07-15-2024 04:14 PM

:what::what:

Where in TV is a golf cart rental included??

Greens fees are right in line with all the other course.
62.50 resident guest at most course
65.50 for Shallow creek

Cart is $14 for 18 holes

Seems reasonable

I belong to a private club up North. It's $28/person for a cart for 18 holes.

I don't know of anyplace, where it's less than about $20, other than courses that include carts in their Green Fees.

Cart rental is the same cost at every championship course in The Villages…..$14.00 per seat for 18 holes. The prices for every championship course is on Golfthevillages.com.

Not sure why you would be surprised.

$60 for a slow season mid summer rate is very high, especially without paying for a cart. Golfers at Shallow Creek and Southern Oaks are getting gouged because of supply and demand in the southern area. I can drive my golf cart about 3 minutes from our home and play 18 holes after 3 PM at Tierra Del Sol for $22 this time of the year. And the layout at Tierra blows away either of those two courses.

You mean golfers in the southern end are getting gouged because they get to play the newest 36 holes?

It blows away any other golf course in TV or the general area ... by a wide margin.

If you had CC membership and waited til the afternoon wave, and took your own golf cart, you could've saved a LOT more. It would've only cost you $37 each.

An equivalent course near NYC is over 100, and outside that area, around 35 -50. And carts are never less than 25 for 18.

Don’t confuse new with better. Once the shine of being new wears off, quality and value rule.

Palmer used to cost more than the other courses, but that changed.

Southern Oaks and Shallow Creek will probably be a premium price for the rest of our lives, as the Developer has apparently determined courses were over-built in the North and he's determined not to make that mistake in the South.

It's been how many years and how many courses in the Southern area?

villager7591 07-16-2024 05:19 AM

If it's too expensive FOR YOU, don't play there. Please don't bring the rest of us down with the complaining.

Please stop comparing rates to rates back home. Depending on where you live, those rates are exorbitant compared to our area. Instead, look at the courses surrounding The Villages. You can play many of these (with a cart included), for far less than here in The Villages. Eagles Ridge has a great layout, and is in great shape every time I've been there. Rates are under $35 with cart during the slow season, but in the fall the rates only go up to $45 while The Villages goes up to $60+ - and that's with your own cart!

Signguy 07-16-2024 06:56 AM

Just outside the "Bubble" Sunday around 9:00 AM less than $50 per person with the cart, at the Del Webb courses up north, and at the Continental on 44. I'm sorry but the rates in the bubble are a bit high. You have to work 20 hours a week at minimum wage at a golf facility to get half off.

paulajr 07-16-2024 07:16 AM

You chose to not take your own cart…and didn’t do your due diligence before going. Why post here? The rates are clearly published on golfthevillages.

I've played all the available courses within a 40 mile radius of The Villages and with the exception of Baseline and Rolling Greens executive layouts, none of them charge extra for a cart. Booking online, all are far less expensive than any Villages championship course.

Back home they would let us play for free if we promised to pull the weeds near where your ball landed. They'd also let you use your garden tractor as a cart for free as long as you left the mower deck running as you travel.

OrangeBlossomBaby 07-16-2024 08:21 AM

My /guess/ as to why the higher extra charge for a cart here:
This is the only golf cart community among the bunch mentioned so far in this thread. There are people - whether we like to acknowledge it or not, who will take a cart out - and simply not return it. Or take it and assume they can use it all day, and use it to go to lunch in the squares, or go shopping, or stop home to shower before returning to the club for drinks.

They will do this, because they think they're entitled, that the rules don't apply to them. If you think that doesn't happen, think again. It happens. Weekly, if not daily.

To offset the cost of needing extra carts, to accommodate the entitlement of the few who take those carts for many hours after they've left the golf course, SOMEONE has to pay extra. Since the ONLY people who do this, are people who - take the golf carts and don't use their own, then they are the ones who will have to foot the bill.

If the charge for using their golf carts is unacceptable, don't use them. This is a golf cart community. It's assumed either you or the person you're golfing with (or each of you) has your own golf cart. The country clubs are available for non-residents, who can't bring their own golf cart. That means they have that cart until they return it. So if they're going to pay for it, they might as well take it off the course and go to the squares for lunch. Or stop at CVS to pick up their husband's prescription. Or visit a friend who lives here. Etc. etc.

They're not supposed to - but they do. And so, the charge.

I think distance was a major factor in not taking own carts

Wow...............how did you determine this is wide-spread enough (not jus a friend or two) to cause an imbedded surcharge in the rental rates??

Lottoguy 07-16-2024 08:46 AM

There is no SHADE anywhere on the courses south of 44. Sorry no thanks!

Lottoguy 07-16-2024 08:49 AM

I guess you have not seen Glenview CC then? By far the best looking and well kept course in TV.

So the phrase "I /guess/" just kinda slipped past you didn't it?

I didn't "determine" anything. I guessed. Words have meanings.

And no I didn't guess based on a friend or two. None of my friends play golf. My neighbors all have their own golf carts and I live in walking distance to the nearest country club. I see the CC rental carts come down here, I've seen a few of them at Spanish Springs in the parking lots. I've seen people drive them off the CC course at Mallory Hill and drive up Odell, I saw one on the MMP near Brownwood. I've seen golfers using the rental carts to drive to the pool, from the course at Lopez, and park their golf cart there while they have pool-side lunch. That holds up that cart, making it unavailable for the cart guys to clean (and gas up, if necessary) for the next renter.

Considering that I see at least one every week somewhere OTHER than the country club golf course - I GUESSED that this might be the reason why rental fees are high here.

Cost of carts

Guys,
$15 per person for 18 hole cart is pretty inexpensive. Most courses out of the Villages are 22 to 28 per person..Now the Greens fee for this time of year is a little much... but its new!

Papa_lecki 07-16-2024 10:26 AM

It is hard to compare the cost structure at different golf courses (i.e. in the bubble vs out the bubble).
For example, have 27 holes ready to first tee at 7:30AM vs 9 holes is very different.
You need 3 times the staff to place pins first thing; you need 3X the capital investment in mowers, etc
Even the staff in the pro shop, you need more to check people in during the wave. It’s not like you can ask people to come in at 7, leave then come back in.

When I went to Southern Oaks when it first opened, they provided carts for free if you had a Villages ID. I don't know if/when they stopped that, but it was my presumption that as a Villager, I would not pay for a cart. Silly me!

$75 per person? It costs me more than that to play a middling public course in my stretch of PA. The good ones (Wyncote, Glen Mills, Broad Run) cost me $120. I dream of the day I can finally move down there and start thinking of $75 being expensive for golf.

That’s because the bridge wasn’t open over the TP - you couldn’t get a golf cart to SO
