Signs of how to spot a Snowbird.

I’ll get this started by throwing out three signs of how to spot a snowbird. Keep them coming, but keep it positive. After all, nobody wants them to become an endangered species since the results would include year round crowds, reduced property values, less businesses remaining viable, and higher expenses for the FROGS.

Here’s three signs.

Being pasty white from a lack of sunshine.
Their car is covered with road salt.
They have a big smile that stretches from ear to ear.

Teed_Off 12-26-2024 06:45 PM

They’re clueless when they approach a roundabout

They are in shorts and tee shirts while FROGS are in hats, gloves and jackets.

Where do think all these villagers came from? :a040:

Driving down MMP with the car. Entering roundabout in left lane and turning right at first exit. Goin to 3rd exit entering roundabout in right lane. Stopping at roundabout when no traffic coming, rolling through 4 way stop and keep going when car on there right was at intersection first. Opps this happens year round…:boom:

Driving a non road legal golf cart on road way, I have seen two examples so far this year

Bay Kid 12-27-2024 07:57 AM

They DON'T speed in their golf carts or cars.
Always smiling.
Never complaining.
Leave big tips.
Hold the door for others.
Stop for people at crosswalks.
AND always say good shot!

asianthree 12-27-2024 08:11 AM

Renter Snowbirds: Playing in the rain, with 40 degree temperatures, because I am only here for ___________time.

Owner Snowbirds: have zero trademark indication. Cool summers with a lake you can swim in and live to tell. Happy they got to see the leaves turn colors, sad they raked. Happy to see the first snow(if they were lucky). Then closed their up north home, possibly driving in crap weather (at least this week) to their TV home.

Smiles all around that they have the best of both worlds, for their lifestyle.

I actually saw a late model corvette go around a round-about clockwise yesterday. Couldn't see the plates, but I bet they weren't Florida. That's the fourth time in the 12 years we've lived here that I've seen a car going around the wrong way.

ElDiabloJoe 12-27-2024 09:14 AM

All Villagers who have been born, raised, and never lived outside of Florida, raise your hands. Ahh okay, both of you guys - you two can say whatever you like. Everyone else? Hypocrites.

rustyp 12-27-2024 10:03 AM

Snowbirds are the ones that still use directional signals.

MorTech 12-27-2024 03:51 PM

When you see someone stop in a traffic circle yielding to the incoming traffic that actually has a yield sign..Yup..New Jersey.

Well you say that but some us come from Texas via southern Arizona so . . .

tophcfa 12-27-2024 07:21 PM

A snowbird stands over their dog’s poop, waiting for it to freeze, so it will be easier to pick up.

Exactly my observations too. 🙂

Exactly! The big green signs with white arrows that show you how to navigate the roundabout must not apply to everyone lol

asianthree 12-28-2024 07:54 AM

Last week 2 pedestrians (80s) crossing the roundabout at Odell and BV, were struck by a car. Yesterday driving from VA clinic in mulberry to south of 44 three different roundabouts had people walking across. Renter/ New Snowbird doesn’t know crossing two lanes of traffic is not smart? Or long time resident that’s not so smart? Thoughts?

Then again the amount of grandparents letting under age kids driving golf carts seems to be more than usual, at Christmas break.

LonnyP 12-28-2024 08:00 AM

They are always smiling. Love our snowbird friends.

That's not just a snowbird thing! FYI, there are plenty of roundabouts up north.

They are always holding a drink on the dance floor.
While we are bundled up from the cold, they wear short, tee shirts and flip flops.
They don't know how to park a golf cart.

Bad roundabout driving, not sure which way to go, bad parking manners (NY/NJ). Clueless!!

They try to overtake or pass in the roundabouts, and get upset when the car in front of them makes a perfectly legal turn that cuts them off.
They think the speed limit on Buena Vista is 85, not 35
What they do of the MMPs is mostly unmentionable

Pasty white but soft and supple feeling skin with less wrinkles, age spots and cancers.

Bet you didn't realize, the state that has the most people moving to TV is Florida.

It’s slowly getting around but so called “snowbird owners” are know as Sunbirds. They own property in TV and many claim to be Florida residents for obvious purposes. Sunbirds go north for a few months to get away from the hot humid summers in Florida. Pretty nice lifestyle!

Probably from Great Britain

Plenty of FROGs and service people have not mastered those circles. Saw a local service vehicle plow into the side of a car recently.

YoRomeo 12-28-2024 11:36 AM

I am not pasty white because I have been out in the sun all summer playing golf in comfortable temperatures.

My car is not covered in salt because it comes down on an auto transporter and is delivered right to my door.

It takes me time to have a big smile on my face from ear to ear because of trying to hide that I am a snowbird because of the dislike from many of the full timers

When I am told that as a full timer, you just have to stay inside in the summer the way you stay inside up north in the winter. My answer to that that is I get to stay outside ALL year in comfortable weather. What is not to like, when you are a snowbird?
