Toll Rd Question
Well, I'm finally a proud TV homeowner, and I'll be driving one of my cars across this great nation of ours in a few weeks. I'll be heading east on Interstate 10, and then south on 75 and I guess getting off at 44 to get to the Villages. I know that there's a toll coming north from MCO, but can anyone tell me if there is a toll coming south as described above?
Much appreciated, and looking forward to joining everyone in a few weeks. |

The turnpike is the first exit southbound after SR44, although the first exit on the turnpike from I-75 which exits at 301 is not tolled.

Bring your checkbook, you will get dinged a bit for bringing cars into Florida. IIRC, it is based on vehicle weight. Go to the Government Building at Pinellas. Nice, professional folks that will walk you through it. You can also apply for homestead exemption and register to vote.

Also stop in at the Sheriffs HQ and get your VIN number verified.

Welcome to Florida and The Villages, not sure about the VIN verification, we brought 4 vehicles south, as I recall (11 years ago) it was $300 to $500 per vehicle, we needed to take the actual vehicle to the Pinellas center so the state personnel could verify the mileage and VIN number, and yes they were very helpful. You may want to call ahead to verify any other documentation you need to bring with you to get your new plate and registration.

Taking the Turnpike exit from southbound I-75, the first exit is Wildwood/The Villages, which is not tolled. Everything after that is.

Before you apply for license plates you will need Fl insurance on the car and 2 forms of ID that you are now residing in The Villages. My car was not financed so I am not sure about that part. They will issue you plates right then after you pay the fee. You will sign up for voting registration, and take a picture for your physical license. Not sure if it is sent to you or you get that while you are there. If there is anything to add or delete others will confirm.

Upon further investigation: “VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS: All motor vehicles not currently titled in Florida must have the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verified by a law enforcement officer, Florida notary public, or at the Tax Collector's office.“ |

Welcome to The Villages. When you go to the Pinellas center (gold dome building), you will need several documents to get everything accomplished:
1. Current driver's license, and two forms of proof verifying your Florida address. 2. Current registration and titles for your vehicles. 3. Verification of valid Florida auto insurance for each vehicle. 4. VIN Verification forms, signed by an authorized official, for each vehicle. If you live in an area within the Wildwood city limits, you can call Wildwood PD, and they will send an officer to your home to complete those forms. Much easier than taking multiple vehicles to the center. While you are at the Pinellas center, you can also register to vote, file your Homestead Exemption forms, and get a library card. True one-stop shopping. If you have all of your ducks in a row, you will leave the center with your new Florida license plates, and your Florida driver's license. You will also leave with a somewhat lighter checking account. For normal passenger vehicles, figure on an all-in cost of about $450 per vehicle to get them established in Florida. That is, however, a one time expense. After the initial outlay, you only pay to renew the plates...which is dirt cheap. Good luck! |
No toll on that route. However Florida has many other sections of the highway that do. I purchased a SunPass online, put $25 in it and don’t worry about it. Easy

I bought it mainly because my stepdaughter lives in Orlando and I make regular trips down there. |

It's the route we, and many others have used to make the 'epic journey' to The Villages. We have enjoyed every day since, so welcome and Enjoy the Adventure! |
Take your time, enjoy the transition. Remember you are a rookie (freshman) at retirement high school. Again, take your time and talk to people for ideas.

Not at that point.

Depending on where your new home is in The Villages you may want to take the FL turnpike. The first exit south is US 301 and there is no toll. The second exit is CR 470 or Leesburg and it is a toll exit. The toll booth area will read your license plate and send you a bill even if it's an out of state plate. It cost a bit more if you do not have an EZ-Pass, Sunpass or Sunpass Pro.
I live in The Village of Newell and would rather pay the toll to exit at CR470 than deal with the traffic in The Villages, especially this time of year when all the snowbirds and renters are here. |

Similiar question. I live in a state without Tolls (Arizona). I will be moving to The Villages and will be driving from Arizona to Florida. Looks like I will be going through states that don't use EZ Pass. As a Toll Newbie, how do I handle this? Thanks.

JB Carts in Ocala. New EV loaded $10,700 and Jaret the owner is great to deal with. ALL his carts can be made street legal right there at the showroom. They take care of everything and believe me the safest and fastest way to go is Street Legal, take it from someone who has been street legal for 20 years.

Watch the video on how to drive in a roundabout, they can be trickey if you never drove in one before.

The side benefit of exiting at 44 is you drive right by the Russell Stover distribution center on the left about 2 miles after exiting onto 44. In there they have all the seconds and overstocks of their chocolate and candy products. They also make a fabulous ice cream sundae!

And what is this request to register (every two years) to vote by mail?

I didn't know that. Not sure if you're pulling a trailer or just driving a car but it's something to be aware of |
