Unsafe, inconsiderate, vulgar driver at Magnolia Plaza

Crossing the street from SafeShip to where my cart was parked, a man in a white SUV determined he wanted a specific parking spot. So he turned behind me, GOING THE WRONG WAY, so he could park in 'his' spot. I pointed my index finger in the opposite way he was going, indicating that he was going the wrong way. So he gives me THE FINGER. Vulgar, inconsiderate, as well as unsafe.
So when I am backing out of my parking spot, a woman in a golf cart almost hits me. She was doing the same thing...going against the flow/direction of traffic, as directed by the arrows.

Is this ultimate entitlement by Villagers ? You are unsafe. Follow the rules that the rest of us (most of us) follow. When you don't, you are endangering all others.

A lot of that going on. And almost no one is going the speed limit here in the Villages ' residential streets .

GpaVader 04-25-2025 12:44 PM

It happens all over and it's not just Villagers.

Gpsma 04-25-2025 01:32 PM

Perhaps stop being the traffic police…or join the sheriffs dept. all u had to do was pull out and not be a sanctimonious villager having to point out he was not going down the correct lne

Reading is ......

The OP was almost hit by someone disregarding the flow of traffic.

It seems almost neighborly to explain the meaning of those white arrows in the lanes to a confused, elderly driver.

JohnN 04-25-2025 02:06 PM

Lot of that going on everywhere.
My motto "watch them all, all the time" whether walking or driving.
I don't get into it with people, half of 'em are probably carrying and waitin' to get into it.

Impossible

Typical villager imported driver. The rare ones obey traffic signs and laws.

agree not worth getting shot over:spoken:

villager7591 04-25-2025 03:52 PM

Point is: he knew he was going wrong way but had NO consideration for anyone else. He wanted his parking spot.

And OP is required to look BOTH ways before backing out of a parking space.

And apparently did. Just like I look BOTH ways before crossing a one-way street. But I do that out of habit and not because I should anticipate someone driving the wrong way.

People are entitled and inconsiderate. Sad and getting worse.

It was your fault. You should have parked in a pull-thru spot.

We never - and I mean NEVER - park in a spot that requires us to back up in order to leave.

So you never - and I mean NEVER - shop at Grand Traverse or Pinellas plazas?

Yes, we shop at both of these places and always park in pull-thru spots or we back into a parking spot.

IMO it doesn’t matter how other people are acting. It’s up to you to take care of you.

Entitlement

It's not until they are involved in a wreck and then face law suits that can change their lifestyle and put a lien on there house, do they care. But I for one do not want to be the replicant of one of their entitlement and I don't care to fallow the rules wrecks, that cripple's me up.

I think we need to complain to the Sheriff departments and Villages security for more enforcement.

I agree that the person's actions were selfish and careless, but......In Florida, lawsuits generally cannot take away your primary residence, your retirement savings or college savings, unless there is malicious intent. Furthermore, this was a private property parking lot, so complain all you want to the sheriff, but I doubt they have the ability to "enforce" an arrow painted on the pavement there.

jim@jedward.com 04-26-2025 06:28 AM

Take a hike. You come across a couple of jerks in a parking lot and you automatically apply the behavior to all villagers?

Do you think that this only happens in the Villages? I saw a lot of bad drivers before moving to the Villages.
And they were usually on highways - not driving 5 mph in a parking lot.

jojoturf 04-26-2025 06:51 AM

Magnolia Plaza vehicle traffic is out of control. It’s not large enough to accommodate the explosive housing growth south of that plaza.

Same here. I always pull through when ever there are pull through spots available in a lot. I will walk further just to get a pull through spot. The smaller lots don't have those pull through spots.

Question: If he turned into the parking space BEHIND you, how were you in any danger? Or was it his finger that was "unsafe"??? Perhaps he took exception to your role as "enforcer of the painted aisle arrows in the parking lots". I am not defending him, per se, but I can see how he might have become irritated.

I have seen some shouting matches with cars backed up when someone goes up the down lane in the Publix parking lot . I do think they need cameras covering their parking lots unless they already have them but do not advertise that.

What use would the cameras be since nobody is going to do anything about it?

If they shoot like they drive it may not be a problem.

None of this is new. People cut across parking lanes, go the "wrong way", park facing the wrong direction, but usually do it safely; i.e. giving right-of-way to those that have it. I don't see a problem. Parking lot markings are guides and may provide you with help or hindrance if you are hit or hit someone. Late at night it's common to see someone start to park and move across lanes when they see a spot closer, or in the daytime, when they start to park and see a shady spot a lane or two over. Again, I don't have a problem if done safely.

My goal was to alert him to his behavior. Why are rules for everyone except him? He is putting everyone at risk with his behavior.
I was not an enforcer: I was simple crossing the parking lot.

Spot I parked in was against the median (no pull thru).
