Dogs in The Villages?
How many pets per house hold are allowed in The Villages and does it differ depending on where you are in the community?

I am teasing. I understand that you can bring all of your pets and keep them until they die and then you are supposed to have only two. I imagine this rule is to keep people from using their homes for breeding businesses...I don't know why the rule is but it isn't enforced stringently. One of the very few that isn't. |
Thank you. I have a little rescue boy, along with my 2 girls, and I'm having a hard time accepting the fact that I will have to let him go. I know, that's the chance you take with rescue but I've invested a lot of love and time in him......I guess I was hoping he was already in his permanant home. Darned rules.
|
I thought you were allowed 3 if you own 3 when you buy (1 is grandfathered in and cannot be replaced when it dies) so then you would have 2.
|
Them's the rules. Of course, nobody has more than 2 pets in TV. :) But I don't think the "Pet Police" patrol the neighborhoods, knocking on doors for pet headcount checks, etc. More 3 dogs can be obvious more so than, say, having 3 birds that are kept inside all the time. If you're out walking all 3 dogs together, for example, then you'll be easily spotted. It would probably take one of your neighbors turning you in for the infraction to come to anybody's attention.

Personal rescue that has turned into long term. I've had him for a year and a half now, he's tiny so I've been particular as to where he goes. Seems I've drawn interest from all of the wrong people and the right people already have dogs. |

I wonder how anyone knows how many fish you own? |
Thanks BlueDog103.. That's what we heard as well and asked again before we secured our property. We have three, one is very old. While he will make it to The Villages, he won't be able to enjoy it as the two younger ones will. I just couldn't give him up!!! :clap2:

Well, it's o.k. now. Peanut has gone to his forever home with a wonderful retired couple who are enjoying spoiling him rotten...even worse than he was here! I took my time and found the right family for him...I bawled my eyes out for days after he left but I know he's in the right home and we do keep in touch...I sure miss that little brat though!
So now it's just me, my husband and the girls :) |

Group Walk?
So now that I have read the answer to the question I was afraid to ask, is it ok for me to go out in public with my 3 dogs on a group walk all at once? I understand I can't replace the third when he passes, but will I get anyone giving me grief if they are all out together or should I only take 2 at a time? What if my husband has number 3 with him? I am new to TV and closing next month so I don't want to start off on a bad foot (or 12 bad feet as the case may be). My dogs are VERY large and not easy to ignore when on a leash but not barkers and we have a CYV so no one will see or hear them at home.

I am no longer a dog owner, or I might say, owned by a dog. However if your dogs are labs of any color or any mix thereof, I would love to meet them. |

Our by-law says two domestic pets per household. There seems to be a verbal, unwritten "law", that says you can have three dogs until one passes over the Rainbow Bridge. I find that most residents in TV love dogs and always ask if they can pat them. However, for me, I'd hate to have a walk ruined by one of the few "busy-bodies" who might need to comment. |

Whew!
That's great to know and I feel better already. We are pretty much a spectacle when we walk and my dogs are registered Therapy Dogs so they are very friendly and interested in people. They think everyone is out walking to interact with them so it won't be a problem if anyone wants to stop and say hi or if they choose to walk on by. We are planning on going to the Doggy Do Run after we move down full time also. We visited and loved it. Sorry, not labs, bigger dogs than that. I LOVE how dog friendly TV is and that is one of the reasons we decided to buy here. I am so looking forward to making a lot of new dog friends. Thanks for the reassuring words everyone.

More than 2 are grandfathered in

Are they Great Danes? St. Bernard's? I love big dogs too, though I have a small one. ... Say, you could always get your third dog to wear a sign that says Grandfather. :D |
Barefoot, Lollipop is the CUTEST and I just love her fuzzy face. She has a face that you want to bury yourself in with puppy kisses. I wanted to ask you what kind of dog she is; absolutely adorable!! I like all dogs, actually, big ones and small ones. I fostered a small one last year and it was kind of fun to have a dog you could pick up and carry around. A novelty for us since we don't get to do that ever even with puppies after a couple of months. Ok, we currently have a Great Pyrenees who won't make it to TV with us when we finally move here full time because he isn't in very good health and is VERY old (he'll stay behind with my son when we come down to TV for our visits) and we'll bring our 2 Borzoi and our 'small' dog the greyhound. We know greyhounds aren't small but they are the smallest in our house. When we arrive in TV after we rent our house for a bit the 3 we bring will be the hounds, the borzoi (Russian Wolfhounds) and the greyhound. Technically we have 4 but only 3 will ever be here so I think that still counts for the rules.
I don't have any idea how to get a picture up here. In fact, I am struggling now because I have a new laptop and I am struggling because I have a new laptop and can't remember my password for this account and want to use it for this message board also. Does anyone know how to get my password sent to me? I tried asking for a resend once and it never came. I don't know how I did that or I would try again. So frustrating to have so MANY passwords everywhere! |

Lollipop is a Portugese Water Dog who had three homes before we rescued her. We absolutely adore her. Your dogs sound great, I can hardly wait to meet them. |
Large dogs meet the smaller ones.

You see many size dogs mixing in the Villages at Doggie Doo Run Run as well as near the postal stations and on the streets. Seconding barefoot's recommendation of Doggie Doo Run Run. It also has a 3 dog maximum per person. I guess that they figure one person can only mind three dogs at the most. I have seen what look like couple's though come in with more than 3 dogs at the dog park. Rarely if ever though have I seen a dog walker with more than two dogs around the Villages' squares, postal centers, or streets. I have also found that the bigger GUYS when leashed seem to be a lot friendlier to my dog than many of the smaller ones. Those yorkies, bichons and other toy dogs can get rather nasty. Along the same theme, Doggie Doo Run Run has a welcoming committee of small dogs which bark incessantly at the larger dogs coming into their respective section of the dog park. It is as if the little dogs think all the big dogs are Fumars'. The smaller dogs are only brave when there is a fence between them and the larger pooches at Doggie Doo Run Run. Small dogs are allowed into the bigger dog areas at the dog park though. They have a back field of about 5 acres in which my dog and I enjoy walking around. You are entertained though by the animals at Doggie Doo Run Run. Dogs chasing squirrels. Digging for moles/voles/gophers. Chasing balls. Rolling around in play fights. |
Little Help!! We are bringing our Labradoodle down this year and after reading this thread, we are a little apprehensive. Seems like a LOT of people are against pets walking through their neighborhoods. We have always picked up after our dog - except for the urine, and never heard a word from anyone in our subdivision here. We have never heard of dog urine ruining a complete lawn (hedges-yes) as has been mentioned here. We will take Mulligan to Doggie Doo Run Run but would also like to walk him on a leash at times. Am I reading complaints from just a few people or have dogs become undesireable in TV? Thanks for any response and Merry Christmas. Can't wait to get back down there.

Dogs are an integral part of Village life. It seems that at least 20% of residents have dogs, and many have more than one! When we take our dogs anywhere in TV, we are constantly stopped by people who want to pat them. Most of them have dogs themselves, or have stories about how they used to have dogs, and miss them so much. |

You Tube entry showing Doggie Doo Run Run.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fE_h84b3ws[/ame]
This looks like the 7- 8 a.m. people from around 2009. You can see the smaller dogs barking at the larger dogs in their section from behind the protection of a fence. You also see Kirby though-- the star of the You Tube above-- chasing around a doberman. Kirby is no doberman sized pooch. The bald spots in the lawn are mainly the action of moles/voles or whatever it is that digs various tunnels around this dog park. |
Our lttle dachshund is a bit of a snoot
Loves little white dogs but very agressive to larger dogs...
We are very careful to only let our dog do his business in our yard or common areas....We have had problems with our grass that has been marked by many dogs and must replace eventually....Have put up signs that will hopefully take care of problem... |

Don't, under any circumstances, feel bullied by those who have vented/ranted about those terrible dog owners and their dogs ruining property. I have no doubt that there are irresponsible dog owners, but I have not witnessed one. There are those who will rant about dogs and my guess is that you'll find them in the express line at the market counting the items in the person's cart in front of them. Life is too short! |
