With all that's been going on lately....

A 15 year old girl holds hands with her 1 year old son. People call her a slut, no one knows she was raped at 13. People call another Guy fat. No one knows he has a serious disease causing him to be overweight . People call an old man ugly. No one knew he had a serious injury to his face while fighting for our country in the war.

Think before you judge.....

Trish Crocker 08-07-2011 09:31 PM

I agree..it's way too easy to make a judgement without knowing the facts.

IAMDMRAE 08-07-2011 09:43 PM

I hate to admit it but you make some good points. There are exceptions to the rules. Just not that many.

You're 'right on' Angie, and as for the second one, it's more that disease per se that can be a contributing factor in weight problems. I know, because I fit into that catagory on both the name calling and the cause! However, I must say that those I've met in person or confided in about my problem, have been nothing but wonderful to me despite it! Must be that TV friendlyness that's talked about... so far at least!

Years ago, a nice fellow who ran the shipping & receiving dept. of a gear company my trucking company did a lot of business with was often teased about the awful toupee he wore. I never did participate in that, since his was an important account of my company and it's not my thing to mock people like that, but I admit, I didn't stick up for him either.

Well, I found out later on after he was absent from his post for a while, that he was fighting cancer and that was the cause of his condition and he tried to maintain his dignity as best he could. He didn't live much longer after his absence from work. I never forgot this, and even though I never once participated in the "jokes", I still felt guilty for a long time.

angiefox10 08-09-2011 06:35 PM

The reason for the post!

Hi Big Lew... I posted this because there were some people coming on and posting mean spirited posts for no reason and making quick judgments. It is a reminder to all (including me) to be careful of what you post as it can be hurtful.

Clearly this doesn't apply to you, so not to worry....

Hey Skyguy79... Remember that trick you taught me??? I found just the place to use it! :highfive:

Angie: remember last month when I posted that you are one of the TOTVers whom I would prefer to not cross? The above post is an example why.
You said a lot w/out saying much. Well done.

I read a story once where the writer was in a hospital waiting room and was annoyed at a bunch of rowdy children. The writer choose not to say anything but the longer it went on, the more impatient he became. Finally, a man came into the waiting room and whispered to him:

"I'm sorry my children have been so noisy. Their Mother just died and I am trying to figure out how to tell them."

BigLew 08-10-2011 09:00 AM

I can see why you need a reminder

The old owners would have warned or banned someone for less than what was written on this thread.

Is it just that I'm kind of dense, sometimes? I have no idea what's behind all the bottled up hostility that's underlying in this thread.

BigLew, when I first read Angie's post, my thought was that this comment doesn't sound like Angie.

I then posed the "trick" question to her via PM for clearification. When I received a response explaining, I found out that it was not actually a trick she was referring to, but rather my earlier suggestion made to all, that if one does not like the posting of another and it bothers them, they can alway use the "ignore" feature of the site. When I made it I had just "ignored" someone because they in my opinion fit into that catagory.

Now I can't speak for her, but from what she stated to me in the 3 PM's we shared, it is my sincere belief that this was simply an attempt at humor gone wrong and that she had not intended on hurting you. Also, I'm not sure that the "trick" question was part of what was directed at you or part of that attempt at humor... or if it was a separate statement telling me that she found the place where where she could place an "ignore" on someone. If it was the latter, it probably should have been made in an unrelated post or in a PM.

I hope Angie will will make an appropriate respond about this (if she hasn't while I'm preparing this response) and explain for herself!

Richie, I'm going to prepare and send you a PM with my opinion about this because I believe that at this point, public discussion would only serve to regenerate the discourse that's gone on and make things even worse!

The final word

It was truly all meant in humor. I was making light of the first post and joking to Skyguy79. I would NEVER say or do anything to harm anyone on this thread.... That being said... I am also leaving this forum. I have met some wonderful people here and I also am on FB if you want to be friends. Thanks for the good times. I truly mean it!

Angie, please don't go because of one little bump in the road. Your posts are always fun and interesting and whatever has just happened will pass. Maybe, just take a break and then come back with your light hearted but well thought out posts. I hope you will, and if you don't I will be one who misses reading you.

PylutDood 08-10-2011 11:41 AM

Well kids...

...ya'll done gone and dunnit now !!!

I've been on this forum for a few months now and as a rule I stay out of "Testy" threads but...

Since I have been on the forum I've had one...ONE "Be My Friend" request and it was from Angie. (no, I'am not "pouting" I'am going to make a point).

I'am going to go and find my friend. I'am going to apologize to her FOR
AND ON BEHALF of those that do not seem to be able to themselves. I'am going to do my best to convince them to return if they so desire.

There has been a LOTS of very nice people I have greatly enjoyed communicating with via this wonderful forum.

For the VERY FEW...that seem to have a "Burr under their blanket" need to get up and walk away from the computer when they feel that way.

I'am going to go and find my friend, then we're going to find Gracie and anybody else we can !

PylutDood ( wondering why cant we ALL be friends) Dave

I'm sure it's not just coincedence...

...but have you ever noticed how close the name "Angie" is to...Angel ?

Just one little, teeny weeny letter off but close enough.

Same thing with "Gracie". Awfully close to Grace...as in

"And the Lord rained down His grace and mercy and His people were restored".

Just drop the "I" (you know, as in the ME ME ME attitude of some people) and there you go. You have "Grace". I ask, do you deserve Grace?

No we dont but are truly blessed with her presence and we truly miss her without it.

Same thing with Angie...errr...I mean Angel.

Please, please everyone: posting comments that simply put someone down is not nice. Not naming who is being dissed-- but making it very clear who by coded reference-- doesn't make it any nicer.

Similarly, putting down an entire class of posters (i.e., frequent posters or long-time posters or new posters), is another form of bigotry, is it not? We can't all be that bad.

Let's express our opinions about topics, without making unkind remarks about each other. This is what has always separated TOTV from other discussion boards. We can do this.

My squirt gun is aimed at the reset button. Please help me push it. The codes are:
  1. Start fresh
  2. Forgive and forget. (Give those of us you dislike a second chance.)
  3. If you've left: return, forgive, reset. (Russ? GG? Others?) Please help us squirt down the code words on the reset button.
Please?

Oh dear,
I had posted this an another forum and see that it would apply here too. Please help with the reset. OK?

BigLew: I do not intend to further inflame the issue, but I also inferred a very negative connotation from your initial post. The post struck me as being blatantly contrarian to Angie's message in particular, and to the recent wishes to return to civility expressed by many posters.

You state above that you questioned the appearance of an otherwise meaningless standalone post. OK, I accept your word at face value and I APOLOGIZE for my poor behavior by complimenting Angie for her response to you. My apology is sincere.

An observation: if your question was posed a bit less pointedly, maybe written something along the lines of, "I don't quite understand your message, Angie. Would you clarify your intent?", I know that I would have interpreted your intonation differently. I presume that Angie and others would've also.

Angie: I agree with other posters...no quitting just because you hit a bump in the road. So you're not perfect..oh well. None of us will blow your cover to Oren (I recall that Oren stated sometime in the past that he is married to you...if not OOOPS! Sorry). Dust yourself off and get back here right now! If not, we will miss your humor and your various Betty Boop avatars!

PTurner: Your reset idea is the perfect solution. A reset could serve as a re-callibration of TOTV as we collectively learn and grow from the pains of the past few weeks.

One thing that sets TOTV apart from most other forums is that its 18000 or so members- posters and lurkers all- have one unifying thing in common: almost all of us want to live here and all of us have a deep interest in what goes on here.

Consequently, TOTV creates a familial connection between and among its members. The strength of that connection often grows into lasting friendships through meet & greets, crispers monthly reunions, and social activities.

I concur with sentiments of other posters in the other current and kind of related post: Let's get everyone back, push reset for all of the dark, bad, and negative recent occurrences, and move forward.

Reset...another word for a "do-over" which is what my non-golfer friends call a mulligan...mulligan, the perfect word for TOTV.

I call a muilligan...anyone else?

I do not understand why you had to make your post. Angie tries to be funny. Ever comedian I have ever heard has jokes and comments that fly and some that don't. At best she was reminding us all to be nice to others. Obviously, you didn't get that. Why couldn't you just be nice? My mother taught me at a young age if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. You might try that. At least consider being nice to other people. It might make you feel good about yourself. TV is supposed to be the friendliest city in the world. Making comments like "ok and this has to do with anything" is not nice. It isn't responsible. It isn't polite. It isn't endearing. It isn't considerate. Never miss a good chance to shut up: Will Rogers. If you don't have something nice to say - just be quiet: My mother. You don't need to insult others to feel good about yourself - Do you? :censored:
