Beer On Tap At Restaurants

We are looking for a Restaurant that has either of the following:

1. Pabst Blue Ribbon ON TAP
or
2. Schlitz Beer in Bottles or ON TAP

Any suggestions as to any restaurants or bars would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can buy PBR at Sweetbays. $6.99 a 12 pack. Such a deal!

buggyone 12-17-2011 07:07 PM

Why in the world would anyone voluntarily drink Pabst or Schlitz?

chuckster 12-17-2011 07:18 PM

I agree..."headache city".......reminds me of Carling Black Label. yuuk.........:popcorn::popcorn:

Love Schlitz! My husband, who is careful with his beer and wine money, started buying it at Winn-Dixie years ago when we were cruising on the east coast. Apparently, they've gone out of business 'cause I can't find it anymore. Too bad...we traded a $9. case of Schlitz for twenty-five, yes 25 fresh lobster tails in the Dry Tortugas with a boatload of commercial fisherman. They didn't care what brand of beer it was! We cared about the lobster tails: steamed lobster, lobster eggs benedict, and so on.

I know they still serve Schlitz in Tampa at The Hub Bar, so I know it is still available. They also serve PBR on Tap in the Lakeland area. Hopefully, some one here near TV has it available.

Thanks for the information about PBR at Sweetbay.

Schlitz

Publix has 6 pack of Schlitz, which has recently been released based on original
brew. Was once the best selling beer in the US. Google it.

Not really Villages' brews, are they? Haven't seen you for a drink lately. Will be at the watering hole tomorrow before I head north for the Christmas Holiday with family. If you get a little parched, you know where to find me.

Do you remember which Publix store?

Thanks!

Carla B 12-17-2011 09:48 PM

You're right, not all Publix stores carry the same items. Hope you find it...I can check at Colony Plaza Publix next week.

Stroh's is the beer that always gave me a headache-I'll take a Miller Hi-Life.Not Miller's Genuine Draft or Miller Lite but the original.Truly the "champagne of bottled beers."

Aloha 12-17-2011 11:03 PM

We were at a Sports Bar called Champs in south Lakeland last month and they had PBR on Tap there. We all tried a pitcher of it, just for laughs, and were surprised at how much we liked it. It brought back memories of years ago. Then we tried Schlitz at The Hub Bar in Tampa and it also surprised us. As someone mentioned earlier, Schlitz has been introduced again with their original formula again, back when it was the number one seller in the USA.

Schlitz brings back some fond memories! That goes way back when I have a full head of HAIR! (70's) :ohdear: I can't remember if I ever saw Schlitz in a BOTTLE in VA. We always drank them out of a can. Never acquire a taste for PBR's. Back in the (70's) that was my dad's generation choice of beer. Good Luck in your search and be Safe!

Bogie Shooter 12-18-2011 08:00 AM

Go to Schlitz.com and they provide locations where you can buy their beer.

Aloha 12-18-2011 09:48 PM

Thanks to everyone!
I found Schlitz in Bottles at the Sweetbay Supermarket. I was surprised to find it in bottles. I wish I could find the PBR on Tap somewhere close to TV, but at least I now have a source for take home for both Schlitz and PBR.

Best wishes and Happy Holidays to All...

Back in the day my dad worked for the electric company in Philly. He would routinely visit high users of electricity so scheduled a visit with Joe the owner of Scmidts Brewing in the city. He took a tour and saw lines and lines of beer being filled in bottles and cans. Funny obsrvation there was a line of Scmidts being filled right next to PBR and some other local brands. Asked what was going on he was told it is the same beer going into the different brand bottles due to "brand loyalty" of the consumers. He was contracted to fill PBR, Ballentine, and other brands for distribution. Same beer , different can/bottle

True story

In college we got deep discounts on pitchers of Schlitz and MAN what a headache I got from day 1......Not a big fan......

DDoug 12-19-2011 06:35 AM

Any one from Toledo Ohio area remember Buckeye beer and the tv commercial that went with it. Early 60's

Schlitz . . . "The beer that made Milwaukee famous!" Because it was so bad they used it to put out the great Chicago fire!

Schlitz was bought by Stroh Brewery Company in 1982 and then sold along with the rest of Stroh's assets to the Pabst Brewing Company in 1999 and Pabst discontinued the draft version of Schlitz in 2001 because of poor sales.

dmorhome 12-19-2011 09:13 PM

They still make that beer!!!

Ah...Ballentine beer. Brings back memories. My dad worked for PRR. I remember on Friday Nights he came home from work with a quart sized bottle of Ballentine beer in a brown paper bag! My beer of choice in the 70's was Schlitz. We would drive over to Jersey from Philly suburbs on the weekend because the drinking age was 18. What memories!

gatherer47 12-20-2011 03:23 PM

Hey Tainsley-Did the same thing in the old days only from Pa into Ohio where we'd get a Carling Black Label beer.Their catchphrase was " Mabel,Black Label,Carling Black Label Beer"

2BNTV 12-20-2011 04:02 PM

I remember the Yankee games with Mel Allen were sponsored by Ballantine beer. The commercial had a beer being poured into a Pilsner glass with the foam spilling over from the top. I was too young to drink at that time.

Now, it kind of makes me thirsty as I think of it. :beer3:

Beef on Weck

"Beef on Weck" is made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus. Accompaniments include horseradish, a dill pickle spear, and french fries. (Fries sometimes have gravy - this is not health food!)

The kummelweck roll (sometimes pronounced "kimmelweck") gives the sandwich its name and a distinctive taste. It is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Next there will be a demand for Steel City Beer on tap.

Remember it well, 1968, old enough to be drafted but not old enough for a draft.

Remember Mel Allen saying, "Make the three ring sign for Ballantine."

For Aloha, the OP: Publix at Colony Plaza had three 6-packs of Schlitz last evening for $6.19 each.

The Ballantine sign was on the old scoreboard in the original Yankee Stadium.

Sounds like you have been to Swiston's. Don't forget the Labatt's Blue to wash those sandwiches down! No, I'm not crying, I just bit my tongue.

quirky3 12-21-2011 10:00 AM

Same Zip Code in Western NY

Mrsanborn, you moved to TV from zip code 14304, which is the same zip where I grew up. Back then it was farm land and dirt roads. We probably have the same culinary tastes!
