Posh, me, our bet and The Daily Sun

I am not a betting woman. I really don't like gambling, I am too um, thrifty, some people call me tight.

But in the heat of things on TOTV, I sort of, impulsively, bet Posh, that The Daily Sun did NOT change hands.

He said that it had and he would streak naked through the square if he was wrong and I said it hadn't and I bet fifty bucks it hadn't.

Well, I could never find any proof of any kind of switch in ownership....

BUT..

as of late, I seem to be getting a different kind of feel from the paper. They are running more "out there" stories. This morning the HUGE headline on the sports page was" BEYOND REPAIR" and had a LARGE close up of Joe Paterna. (Very different for The Sun and slightly....controversial)

There have been several other kind of bigger emphasis on things of national interest and more coverage of shall we say, not positive local happenings.

OH I think that there is a possibiltiy that Posh may have been right. Now the ediitorial section still slants to the right, but the stories have had more zip and oomph as of late.

I am likin' it.

Do I pay? (Nothing is proveable, and many would like to see Posh run through the squares in his birthday suit)

Help me dear readers.

I am standing here clutching my fifty bucks in my hot little hands.

It does seem like a somewhat different newspaper. I can not find any hard evidence that it has been sold yet either just a rumor in the Villages, Wikipedia article.

Mrs. Posh?

I had the impression that it was Mrs. Posh who made the bet.

Ya think? I have always thought Posh08 was a guy. The Posh I thought I knew referred to his wife, the lovely Diane....I think..

Posh? Check your booties and report!

jblum315 07-13-2012 08:31 AM

I worked for Gannett Newapapers for 20 years. One of the things I learned is that in the end it is the relationship between the publisher and the advertisers, not the readers, that largely determines the editorial content of a newspaper.

My booties are blue. The lovely wife is Miss Sam.

:beer3: Could it be that the Daily Sun just changed management? Or maybe management went on vacation and things will soon get back to normal.

RichieLion 07-13-2012 11:08 AM

There was a little story in today's paper reporting on some source's claims of doubts to when Romney really left Bain Capital.

Now, I don't want to turn this political. I only report this as it's one of the first stories I've seen in the Sun that's not particularly helpful to Romney, and thus antithetical to the normal Daily Sun slant.

There does seem to be some sort of editorial shift.

quirky3 07-13-2012 11:08 AM

Survey time!

Who out there knows how to set up a survey? We could have the TOTV population vote on the question - should Mr. Posh08 streak through the squares to fulfill his part of the bet?

janmcn 07-13-2012 11:22 AM

We can only assume that since no change of ownership was announced in The Villages Daily Sun, that it has not changed hands, right? It is promising to hear that the Sun is becoming more news oriented, but don't think I'll cancel any subscriptions just yet.

Taltarzac725 07-13-2012 11:27 AM

Think Mr. Posh should streak at night through one of the golf courses. Preferably along a golf course hole far away from houses, gators, and any lights.

Or should GG donate the $50 to a charity to fulfill her part of the bet?

Or should we get both!!!

Could you possibly be confusing the newspapers??? I seriously doubt that the Daily Sun has ANY venomous columnists. Perhaps you are referring to another newspaper published in close by City - Orlando maybe?

Betty

Trish Crocker 07-13-2012 02:25 PM

This weeks episode showed Posh revealing that SHE is a HE...Stay tuned for the next episode....Will Gracie pay?....Will Posh streak?..Will Sam find out about Diane? Will Dirigo find out about Posh?

Bill...get the popcorn!!

Bill-n-Brillo 07-13-2012 02:46 PM

At the ready, Trish!!

Pass it down!

Personally - if I might state a preference, I think they should swap wagers: Posh should pay $50 and Gracie should streak!!! :pepper2: Woo-hoo!!

Bill

l2ridehd 07-13-2012 02:52 PM

Seeing as there is no definite winner based on current knowledge and both have a right to expect compensation for the outcome, it only seems fair that they both donate $50 to a local charity and both streak naked through the square. Then all is fair. If the correct outcome is every determined then the winner can claim the original bet.

Trish Crocker 07-13-2012 03:24 PM

Please make sure they do it in front of the web cam for those of us that unfortunately cannot be there to witness it.....:)

doccrocker 07-13-2012 03:35 PM

This entire thread reminds me of a college campus fraternity beer blast--- streaking across the U of Michigan diag :MOJE_whot:
It could bring a whole new meaning to "HAPPY HOUR" :1rotfl:

:agree: sounds fair to me

jackz 07-13-2012 03:41 PM

Okay Bill, if you have convinced Gracie to streak in the square let's have her carrying a pan of her newly created eggplant parmigana to share with her cheering section....

One man's venomous columnist is another man's patriot.

You can just read Richard Cohen and leave it at that. Better for your blood pressure.

thistrucksforyou 07-13-2012 04:52 PM

I am a fighter for freedoms and rights and as I think anyone has the right to do what they want as long as they don't hurt anyone else I was just thinking that the streaker would be seen world wide with the web cams on the squares...I would wear a mask ...

I will be watching the cams !

Article from 2006 looks like the Villages Daily Sun has the same publisher.

Legal battle involves 3 women, 2 newspapers - Orlando Sentinel

"Neither the women nor their lawyer, Jason Radson, would say why they left the Commercial or comment on their termination from the Daily Sun. Phil Markward, publisher of the Daily Sun, could not be reached for comment." from above linked article
