Progress Energy re-opens golf cart access to Wal-Mart
While returning from a doctor’s appointment on the short dirt path that runs between Aldi’s and Wal-Mart (on 441) I encountered workmen from Progress Energy putting up a barrior fence to block golf carts. The path is on Progress property and they said the directive came from higher ups.
This affects Stonecrest residents too, but we can add an automatic gate elsewhere that gets us into the parking lots on the other side of Aldi’s if we get permission like we did from Wal-Mart. Update: The path has been re-opened |

Help us here Ed. Is Progress Energy owned by the Morses? What residents in what areas does this affect. Effect? Afflict? Bother? Inhibit? |

Duke Energy and Progress Energy have merged to create the new Duke Energy, the nation’s largest utility. Our combined assets and expertise will help us achieve more efficiency to deliver affordable, reliable and clean energy to approximately 7 million customers, both today and in the future. Anybody who has been trespassing on private property will be impacted. |

It will prevent mostly TV residents in the historical section from accessing Wal-Mart by golf cart. Stonecrest residents will not have golf cart access to Aldi’s, Lowes, medical facilities, and The Villages until we install our own gate between our property and one of the numerous parking areas behind Aldi’s. It was never clear to me whether it was power company Wal-Mart property as the path was outside of the fence that the power company placed around the power equipment. Looks like we know now. |
I'm lost again, I always thought Stonecrest was behind the other Walmart.
|
Patty, EdVinMass is talking about the Wal Mart on 441, not the one on 466. Stonecrest is behind the one on 441.

I'm on the fence
Whether or not to get a steet legal.
Restrictions of this kind can make a difference in my decision. I'm assuming I might need to go north for awhile as stores will take awhile to be built where our house is located (south of 466A). FYI, at this point we'll probably have a cart for me and a car for my wife. Any thoughts? |
For the life of me I cannot understand this area's love affair with golf carts. I have a truck, it works really well, it's comfortable and most of all it's AIR CONDITIONED. My wife has a car, it works really well, it's comfortable and most of all it's AIR CONDITIONED. If I wind up living here 50 years (which is highly unlikely) I will never understand why you would want a golf cart for anything but a golf course. But hey..that's just me.

I don't really understand where you are saying there may be a gate. Could you please try to explain it to me again. Thank you. |

And for the record, one can travel nearly the entire length of 441 on both sides in a cart to all of the shops, restaurants and medical buildings without ever needing to be on an amenity maintained path. I’ve mentioned this before on TOTV but some people insist on ignoring this fact. |

The only place I can imagine is behind Lowe's, @EdVinMass. Will you put in a request to allow the residents of TV access to the gate?

In the meantime I think people will start blazing a new trail by cutting through Aldi’s parking lot and onto the grass skirt that borders 441 until another barrier is put up.

I hate to be a pain trying to figure it out. I appreciate your help. |

The problem for the people at Stonecrest is that they can no longer get to Aldi or Lowes. I wonder how this will impact the business of Wal-Mart, Aldi, Lowes and the medical buildings between Paradise and Lowes. |

Now my in-laws have one that's tricked out to look like a '32 Ford and they love it and have a great time in it. It makes them happy. That's cool. I just can't see it personally. Now as far as being "stuck in traffic" come sit with me some afternoon on the Baltimore Beltway about 445pm and then we can talk about "stuck in traffic". |

The little dirt trail between Aldi and Wal Mart is what we are discussing. Here's the address of Aldi if you want to plug it into Google Earth: 13937 U.S. 441, Lady Lake, FL 32159 |

This is a bit scary for me because my wife works at Aldi. |

So, if I understand this correctly, we'll be able to get to Aldi's via golf cart but no further, which means either taking our car or taking our cart to the Wal-Mart on 466. Not as convenient but doable. Personally, as long as I can get to Aldi's, the world is good.
I'm still trying to understand how Stonecrest is going to be able to bypass that little stretch between Aldi's and Wal-Mart and, if they do install a gate somewhere, how hard would it be for TVers to find a way through it. |

I was just thru there at 5:20 PM and the fence blocking access to Walmart etc from the south for TV residents and Aldi's etc from the north for Stonecrest residents has been removed.
The Ho Chi Mihn Trail is open again! . |
EdVinMass isn't the area that you indicated with a red box where a possible gate could be located also land that is owned by the power company. Could they run a fence all along there to prevent anyone from crossing their power cut?

The lower left side of that highlighted rectangle abuts the Aldi's parking lot, the rest abuts the parking for the newly built medical buildings. |
