O'Shea's Never again

This afternoon we decided to try O'Shea"s for lunch

We went about 11:30am--

Sat in a booth at the front--there were already a few people sitting at the bar.. We ordered two Guiniss--then proceeded to order our lunch--They had a special Turkey dinner and I ordered that--Eddie ordered the fish and chips--
The food came and to my amazement there were two slices of turkey "the kind you get from the deli in slices--mashed potatoes were full of lumps--vegetable had so much spice-no one could eat it--gravey very thin and from a jar or can--I tasted the turkey and it was awful--I gave the food back to the waitress and asked that she remove it from the bill.. Eddie had the fish and chips--fish was good but batter was full of Greece--potatoes were soggy and cole slaw had no flavor to it.. We paid the bill and said never again--any one else have a similar experience?

redwitch 06-23-2013 05:24 PM

Went once -- ordered meatloaf and requested fries instead of mashed potatoes. A food runner delivered the food. I looked at my plate, looked at the person delivering the food, looked at my plate again -- the runner obviously saw nothing wrong the plate. It had two slices of meatloaf, nothing else. I asked if something was missing and when the runner still didn't get it, asked for the fries (seemed obvious to me that the plate needed more than meat). The meatloaf was burnt on the bottom. I was not impressed.

I won't say never again but I certainly won't recommend it.

Villageshooter 06-23-2013 05:47 PM

I never say a word,, if they cant do there job,,, not my problem,, i move on,,, there are many many places to eat,, that do a good job! this place seems to have many many more complaints of not being able to just get the basic things down,, lets be honest,, turkey mashed potatoes,,, meatloaf is not fine dining,, sure they come on here and apologize, just get the job done,,,, dont be sorry just get it right!!!

jackz 06-23-2013 06:26 PM

As a big proponent of Mom and Pop type restaurants, we gave O'Sheas 3 tries.

Needless to say, the third time was not the charm nor was the first or second.

Moving on to other places.

wendyquat 06-23-2013 08:33 PM

It's such a shame! I know how much money has been put into it and I would really like to see the mom and pops make it but not sure it is possible. We had a similar experience with Weston Smokehouse in Wildwood. Great service but very little presentation or taste at either place!

Bill32 06-23-2013 10:08 PM

First time we went about 6 weeks ago my wife had the Shepherds Pie. It was almost all potato's with a 1/4 inch of unflavored chopped meat on the bottom. I also had the " tasteless" coleslaw and I forgot what I had with it but it wasn't remarkable. We will probably go again and try something else. It amazes me that no one in the kitchen tastes the food they're serving................

Mallory 06-23-2013 10:23 PM

Was there with a large, varied group on Saturday night. There were a variety of orders, all arrived complete and in a timely manner. I am not aware of any problems with the food or service. All in our group left happy.

Rickg 06-23-2013 10:27 PM

Been there, done that, moved on.

buzzy 06-24-2013 11:20 AM

Two burnt burgers. May go back to try something else. I want to try their fish & chips before I give up.

tucson 06-24-2013 11:32 AM

I've never heard or read anything negative about TooJay's, I know they have great food and service as I go there a lot. I think TooJay's mgmnt should give alot of restuarants here some tips on running a successful restuarant! :mmmm:

Not sure what this has to do with O'Sheas. Why the comment?

yabbadu 06-24-2013 11:56 AM

Went to O'Sheas once. walked in to a halve empty diner. Told we would have to wait 15-20 minutes for table. Made no sense to us so we left..

rubicon 06-24-2013 01:11 PM

Where is O'Shea's? or don't I want to know?

Bonny 06-24-2013 01:16 PM

It is on 44 & Powell. Go out Brownwood on 44. Make a right & it's a short ways on the left.

I think the purpose of tucson's comment was to point out the fact that management can make or break a restaurant, and that's the place to start to fix a bad restaurant. He/She was using TooJays as an example of how to make a restaurant successful.

And you do wonder, like Bill 32 questions, if they ever taste their food. Surely they could fix this place.

tucson 06-24-2013 01:33 PM

Yes, that was my intent, being a former Mgr. and having a former chef for a husband, I know that is why a lot of restuarants go out of business. Maybe they need to call Robert Irvine of "Restuarant Impossible" on The Food Network

The old Butterbean? We need more Diners Drive-In and Dives:wave:

Bonny 06-24-2013 02:09 PM

Yes, the old Speckled Butterbean.

Houselover 06-24-2013 07:10 PM

Went there a week ago Friday around 5 to try their bangers. Sorry all gone and won't have any until the next day. Tried their "French dip" which was mostly bread with a little meat. Service was very slow. Staff more interested in to each other than attending to customers.. They have seen the last of me..

SpicyCajunPugs 06-24-2013 07:51 PM

We luv o'shea's

We really love O'sheas. The owner Wayne, the manager Mike, his brothers Andrew and Patrick, and all the other employees as well as most of the customers are just fun loving and great. I am from New Orleans, and I understand there is a difference between 5 star restaurants and neighborhood "fun" restaurants, and I enjoy the "fun" restaurants and the casual eats and great beer and drinks so much more than 5 star gourmet....just in my humble opinion, but I think O'shea's ROCKS

tsst778 06-26-2013 12:24 PM

I agree TooJay's is good but we quit going because of slow service -- they would seat you and then we waited 45mins to an hour for our food --

Been there 50+ times. This never happened to me. Sure you are not talking about waiting in line to get in for 45 minutes? That happens all the time. Why? Cause it's good!

pooh 06-26-2013 05:39 PM

Went to O'Shea's and enjoyed my meal. I had the salmon over Parmesan risotto. It was delicious! Service was good, no problem for us during our visit. Mike had fish and chips. He seemed to enjoy his meal, but I think there are other batters for fish that he enjoys more. The fries do come salted and also with pepper. Seems to be the way fries are presented in many dining establishments these days. If you don't want pepper, let the waiter or waitress know. I'd go back again. Some of the foods others are talking about being unavailable when they ordered are not choices I might make for dinner so I might not get to notice if the shepards pie wasn't up to parr or other dishes seemed "wrong."

I've learned to ignore any restaurant 'noise' from anyone who only has a few posts of TOTV. During the past 7 years on this forum we've had many, many plants or disgruntled employees. I'm not saying this particular person is lying but I just put no credence in these posts until they have a respected presence on the forum. I just ignore those posts either positive or negative.

DAWN MARIE 07-05-2013 07:21 PM

I've been twice and both times there were problems. The first time we had a party of six and never got a seat. We waited for an hour. We walked out and went to City Fire in BW just down the road and had a fabulous meal. The second time we went I had a fairly good meal but my friend's meal was nothing but a piece of salmon over a bed of iceburg lettuce. That was it. We asked to see the menu again and noticed all the things advertised that should have been on that salad was missing. Never went back.

bogo2128 07-20-2013 07:00 PM

We went to O'Sheas with our son who was visiting from Manhattan. What a mistake! Of all the terrific places we could have taken him, we ended up at the worst place possible. For those of you thinking about giving it another chance... DON'T. My husband ordered the reuben. My son and I ordered a dozen oysters, steamed clams, and wings. We waited FOREVER and the place wasn't even busy. Our waitress was clueless. We had to ask her to check on our food order several times. The reuben was soggy with cold fries and tasteless slaw. The oysters had no flavor and were not cold. The waitress brought double the wings and steamed clams and said we would not be charged for the extra order of wings and clams, and she finally apologized. Then, son of a gun, she charged us for two orders of wings and two orders of steamed clams. We were so frustrated we just paid the bill and left. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Wow, not so sure you are correct in saying NO ONE has said a good word about O'sheas...there have been more compliments then complaints on TOTV if you combine the posts. They may have had growing pains but the staff, owner and manager are great and we enjoy the food and atmosphere. We don't want to see it go under and we don't think it will, either. Let's all be fair and give it a chance as we need more restaurants down that way.

I agree.....been there 3 times and had good service and food each time. Come on folks it's not gourmet, it's a bar with entertainment and serves great beers and bar food.:beer3:

southguy66 07-22-2013 11:46 AM

They have the best fish and chips too!

Carla B 10-31-2013 10:07 AM

Yes, never again! Last evening we attempted to eat there. There were only four in our party, none of us had ever been to O'Sheas. We didn't have to wait to be seated but we didn't see anything happening at several adjoining tables; no food deliveries, just customers with menus waiting to be served. So after some time, when our server did appear, we ordered our beverages and food all at once, in the hopes of speeding up the meal. The beverages and an appetizer came about 15 minutes later and, then, nothing. After an hour from the time of being seated plus a several minute struggle in the lobby to get the bill, we went to the grocery store, picked up meat and buns and grilled hamburgers at home in less time than we had sat waiting at O'Sheas.

Interestingly, others were leaving at the same time due to lack of service. And, yes, we did ask for the manager but he didn't appear.

billethkid 10-31-2013 10:56 AM

hopefully you all that had or will have a negative experience asked to talk to the manager or owner. If they are absentee owners they most likely have no idea unless they get feedback.

It is too easy to not be mediocre or bad in the food business.

No..IMHO the best fish & chips are at Sea Critters Café on the Pass-A-Grille end of St. Pete Beach. Yeah..I know it's a bit of a ride, but they ARE good!

Golfingnut 10-31-2013 12:57 PM

was the beer cold?

rubicon 10-31-2013 01:13 PM

Our neighbor had dinner at O'Shea's when it first opened and e-mailed all the neighbors stating the place was premo. Guess first I impressions don't matter.

People here have been holding Toojay's up as being exemplar. Four of us went to their LSL location for breakfast after golf. There are clear signs of cracking occurring at that location

keithwand 10-31-2013 04:02 PM

We were there last night too.
Got our drinks pretty quickly.
Hamburgers finally arrived an hour after we ordered.
Another table of 4 arrived after us and got their burgers before we did. The kitchen lady said it was because they ordered rare and ours were medium.
HUH? And she was very rude.
The waitress Ariel did however not charge for our second round of drinks which was very nice.
Food was OK but we have no desire to go back and especially once others open in Brownwood.
BTW they were not very busy so no idea why food was taking so long to get to the tables.

princesspat 10-31-2013 06:50 PM

We had the same problem at O'Sheaslast night and paid for our drinks and left after 50 minutes of no food. The waitress said it was a computer problem. I felt badly for her since it seemed like a kitchen problem, but she never came around to tell us what was happening, no bread, no drink refills, etc. We ate there in July and it was really good, so very disappointed that we have to cross this off our list.

O' Shea's what a shame, great location and TV love to go out for any meal. they missed the boat with the chef (cook) and service. we went there to play trivia and have dinner,
(they since stopped the trivia games). each week the food was worse. also, our bill was wrong, and the server kept the change, I will decide the tip that should be left not the server. never again!
