Rumors Heard On The Street
Been hearing the following rumors on the street as I venture in and around The Villages........True ?.......or........False?
1. There will be a Dunkin Donuts in Paddock Square Brownwoods across from the cinemas. 2. There is under construction or will be soon starting construction of a very large high end Mall along Route 44 east of The Villages. 3. Disney is to purchase a large parcel of land near or adjacent to The Villages to construct another planned community similar to their existing Celebration community. 4.Costco will be constructing a store along Route 44 perhaps within the Mall complex mentioned in Item 2 above. 5. There is an area within The Villages where they will start constructing exclusive Premier Homes of very high quality/costs to attract Medical Doctors. Was wondering if any other fellow Villagers had heard any of the aforementioned and whether in your opinion any are true? |
Rumors! People get all excited and take it for truth.

One can always hope.
|
maybe wishfull thinking
|
Some may BE and some may NOT be. Doctors sometimes have little kids and one can't have little ones here. I'd vote NO mall or it would already be under construction. Not many malls being built anywhere in this country these days.
Heard all of those rumors. FROM construction workers and contractors mostly. Not the most informed source. |

The Celebration community was online a couple of days ago.

This is the 2006 article that prompted the Disney Celebration rumor. Indeed there seemed to be some interest in Wildwood near the Turnpike……then the economy tanked.

What would a Disney community do to our property values? I don't want to compete with Disney!

Celebration and Mall were rumors 6 to 7 Years ago. Then the rumor was land bought up on 301. Maybe it takes years to get it all together.

Must be a rainy day with not much to do.......whoops! I'm here too!!!

Count me in as skeptical.
Your sources please. |
I'm just off the phone with a guy who owns property near 466 and 301 who says TV is going to build for medical staff on property west of 301 that will not be considered as Village residents.
ibid...haha. |
What about the new Season's 52 restaurant in the so called "mall"?
And the Katy Bells like establisment somewhere in Brownwood? The past would suggest the real transactions like when/if Kohl's or Home Depot were coming or not. Most of us found out when it was announced they signed a contract. Rumors are in the category of wishful thinking. Doesn't hurt to have them as long as no harm is done. And I just love the authentication of a friend of the friend, or someone in high places, or even better someone who knows someone in high places, or someone in a position to know these things....really. Most people in a position to know these things are not likely to be putting out the word....they all sound like out house ramblings to me. btk |

The problem now with the big malls, enclosed, that were booming for many years is the lack of Department stores to anchor. No longer can one store anchor it and a firm like Macy's bought out many other big chains. Speaking from Philadelphia and Balti-Wash areas. They Hechts bought Woodward Lothrop, then they headed North and bought John Wanamaker, the builder of the First Department Store. Then they finagled their way and bought Strawbridge and Clothier. In between buying Lord and Taylor.
So the big Mall in Christiana DE which had Strawbridges, Bamberger's which belonged to Macys, Penneys, and Wanamakers. The beautiful Wanamakers Building was first a Lord and Taylor, but Macy's just wanted one store. Strawbridge's closed a long time now a Nordstrom, the Wanamakers torn down replaced by Target. So, are they enough stores for a big Mall? |

That doesn't sound like it is near to our Villages. |
It seems to be in Barbados

"Open Meeting" Laws And Reporters
There's not much that can happen in any community without local government involvement and approvals. Those issues must be openly discussed with the opportunity for public hearings and involvement as the result of "open meeting" laws. And where there are open meetings, there will be reporters from the media.
There's not a lot of sense in chasing down rumors--although we do have a lot of time for activities like that, and golf. When something like has been rumored here is going to happen, we'll have plenty of forewarning. For me, I'm going to use that extra time pursuing other activities. |
Read the article about Polo in today's paper and you will see the Morse's have a connection to the Williams' family in Barbados. So no surprise there. Cow Williams is the largest builder on the island of Barbados.

What better to do with one's spare time on a rainy Night in The Villages then to pursue rumors....! Anyone have any to share?
|
I haven't seen as many rumors since I was in the Navy and non of them were accurate. The land they are working on just west of Brownwood is hugh and could hold a nice mall, but could also hold a lot of homes. It would be nice to have a Dunken Donuts in Brownwood but would also be nice to have a place that had a full breakfast menu such as 2 Jays or Athens.

I doubt this venture has nothing to do with the Morses. Read it carefully. But this one does; http://www.barbadosadvocate.com/news...sp?NewsID=7843 |
