Help in finding knee doctor
I would like a recommendation for a doctor that someone has used for knee pain and replacement.
thank you for your help !!!! |
I had partial knee replacement last October and I am REALLY satisfied with the results. I used the Florida Knee & Orthopedic Center which is Largo. Their web site is https://fla-ortho.com/ They offer free seminars here in The Villages (check their web site for schedule) and they also offer transportation to and from the hospital so you don't have to worry about driving down to the St. Pete area for your hospital visit. The rooms are set up at the hospital so your spouse can stay with you. A couple of my friends have had them perform their surgeries and all were really happy with the results. I suggest that you at least go to one of their knee seminars, which are held at the Comfort Inn (by Chillis).

Attend one of the free seminars that Dr.Radnothy conducts here in The Villages. Seminars are held @ their Florida Hosp. building located next to Lowes.Surgery ( robatic )is performed @ Waterman Hosp.

Dr. Karina. My husband had a partial replacement 4 weeks ago and has done great.

Dr. Peter Mulhern. He was my doctor and neighbor in Ringgold, GA before he moved his practice to TV. He worked on a knee and a thumb for me and avoided surgery both times. He will do surgery if necessary, but is not knife-happy.

Press the search button on the top of the page and type in "knee replacement." You'll gain a lot of first-hand info about knee surgery and doctors close to TV who do it. As one who has had a knee replacement, although not in this area, I personally think it is very important to use a surgeon who does knees and hips exclusively.

Picking out a Doctor

Unfortunately, because of my wife's sporadic health problems, I have spent a fair amount of time helping to pick out doctors in The Villages. Here is what I have learned in so doing. 1. Recommendations from friends (or TOV posters) are useful and are a factor to consider, but are no substitute for research. The one or two people you talk to might be the lucky ones. 2. A number of doctors in The Villages have sketchy educational and professional backgrounds. Because of its rapid growth, The Villages seems to be a good place for graduates of obscure foreign medical schools or a checkered professional history to get a job or start a practice. Check out your prospective doctor. A good starting place is floridamalpractice.com, an attorney website with links. Click on "Look Up Doctors". Florida is one of the few states that make a doctor's malpractice history available. From that website, you can access the doctor's license, profile, board certifications, and malpractice-claims history. 3. Also, check healthgrades.com and similar websites for patient reviews and as a double check on the doctor's background and history. 4. Make sure that your doctor is board certified in the specialty that you are seeing him for. 5. Generally, but not necessarily, I prefer a doctor in a group practice, figuring that if he or she is really incompetent, the other doctors will boot him/her. 6. Find a specialist. For knee replacement, go to a knee-replacement specialist-- not a general orthopedic surgeon. Experience counts! OK, to now answer your question, based on the above criteria, my wife chose to go outside The Villages for her knee replacement--using Dr. Duke of Ocala. Great background, and he has done, as I recall, something like 5,500 knee replacements. The surgery, done 2 years ago, was a complete success. (We know a number of other people who have used him, and everyone has been 100% satsified.) |
Dr. Karina just did a partial knee on my husband and we are thrilled with the results and the whole process from day 1.

The answer is VERY simple ... I had my left knee replaced 2 years ago by Dr. Petrella in Crystal River, Florida (352) 746-2663 ... it was the best decision I could have made ... it turned out great ... he is the very BEST!

Dr Duke I think he has done over 4000 or 6000 knees. The picture is in his office, from the Ocala newspaper. My sweetie had both knees done by him, and everything is fine now
|
Dr. Duke is now over 7,000 knee and hip replacements. I'm scheduled to see him next week to make a final decision and set up a date. Check out his web site: James B Duke, MD PA

I have seen multiple patients when I was Nurse Manager at Freedom Pointe Rehab Center--by far the best outcomes from a surgeon was Dr. Duke for knee surgery. Good luck!!!
