City Furniture

I hope I am using this site properly. I want to expresss my EXTREME disappointment with City Furniture. Trust me you want to shop OUTSIDE the villages and not deal with City. I have never had such a bad experience in the Villages as I have with City Furniture. I saw some "DISAPPOINTED" posts on City Furniture. I guess I'm not alone!! Maybe they're too big for The Villages?? I would call them a "RIP OFF"
Their sales people give you miss information to get the sale and you pay for it!! Disgusted!

Bonanza 02-27-2014 05:02 PM

You really need to give some details regarding what your experience was. All you've said was that you were given misinformation (which was ????) and you are disgusted.

On the other hand, we had a perfect experience with City Furniture at the store right on 441 in the shopping center. Our sales person was Vonette and she went to extreme lengths to go through any details that pertained to what we were looking for.

So what was your "real" problem??? A store cannot 'fix' anything unless you speak with the manager and/or write to a main office.

Get in writing

Regardless of how nice the salesperson seems, if he/she cannot confirm ALL deal points in writing, walk away.

The OP had a bad experience - do we really need to challenge that??? can't we just respect his opinion and move on???

Saying I "challenged" Mike Jarosch's remark is a little over-the-top, don't you think?
I respect his opinion, but what happened???
In all fairness to a company and those who are reading his comment,
it's a cliff hanger and more information would be helpful.

I think if someone has a complaint about a company,
it behooves them to explain what happened
or else there is no benefit to anyone.

We are very disappointed in City Furniture's customer service. 4 wks. ago tomorrow we went on a search for an area rug for our great room. We found the perfect rug on the floor in a display area. The salesgirl go to the computer and comes back to inform us that the rug is discontinued and that the one on the floor is the only one. We said we would buy it. THe kicker is they can't sell it to us until a replacement rug is brought in. Still waiting for the higher up in Tamarac to find a rug and it is exchanged before we can buy it. We call every week and we get the same answer. It will be ours eventually --that is the question.

Sometimes "discontinued" only means that the retailer is not reordering. Try discovering the name of the manufacturer and the product "name". Go straight to the source. Good luck!

If someone is going to go on a public forum and label a business as a "RIP OFF", I do not think it unreasonable for others to ask for one or two facts that formed the basis of the comment. This way we can all come to our own conclusion if we want to try the business in question.

I will be happy to provide the details of my first and last visit to City Furniture in The Villages. I used the online form on the City Furniture site to complain. I was assured they were very sorry and took my complaint seriously. I was offered a set of wine glasses "worth $100." for my trouble (I need this like a hole in the head). Here is the text of what I sent them:

Comment: I visited your new store in The Villages FL (Plaza Grande) yesterday. We are used to City Furniture having relocated from Fort Lauderdale and having purchased many items from your stores there. I will not be going back. Your salesperson showed no interest in what type of decor I had and when I did not like the first one or two things she showed me, she made up an excuse and said she had to leave us immediately. Three minutes later I saw her talking with her next customer who had just walked in. This type of "service" will NOT make it here in The Villages. Southern Living offered true consultation, even in one's home, at no cost. Villagers require and expect patience, advice and expertise. Also you need more traditional furnishings that may blend better with what Villagers already have.

I agree with you, Bonanza. It was a very strongly worded post condemning the store, and I think it needs clarification. We can't be expected to shun the store because a person had a bad experience unless we know how bad the experience was. Was the customer victimized? Was the wrong furniture delivered? Did the store refuse to correct an error?

It's not unreasonable to expect an explanation.

We bought a lot of furniture from City Furniture and had not problems or issue other than some items being back ordered. I don't see that as their problem since they get it from the manufacturer. Service has been good (we got a good sales person) and the delivery people were great. We had a horrible experience from Rooms to Go because of their return/cancelation policy. So there you go.

billybye 02-28-2014 10:16 AM

Whoever "invited" them could have made a lot better choice.
They are a slight bit above Rooms To Go in quality, but at bottom in customer service and "hard sell" salespeople.
Knew them from South Florida and bought from them once - not again.

Update on our rug from City Furniture: We were able to bring the rug home yesterday! Marcia finally called at almost 7 weeks after wanting to buy the last one and said it was available. We are thrilled with the way it brings our living room together! The final deal was priced very reasonable and Marcia was the best through this whole process. Yes I do think they can come up with a better way to let customers buy the last, discountinued product. But for us it was worth the wait.

Impressed with your tenacity and patience!
