Dog dilemma

While sitting on my lanai eating dinner a guy walking his dog on a very long leash allowed it to come all the way up to my lanai and go to the bathroom. I was so mad I couldn't even speak. What would you have done in my situation???

I'd keep a BIG bucket of water ready to throw on the owner next time it happens.

Seriously, that's beyond ignorance.

That self absorbed twit is not concerned with your property rights. I wonder if he would be concerned with a nice photo or two. We'd like to see it. :)

Once again, the 'rights and entitlement' generation is at it. Sad.

I'd be mad as he77. I also would have walked out and spoken my mind. I see far too many dog owners allowing their pets to use the bathroom on our yards. I also always see dog owners who don't even bother to pick up after their dogs. It's disgusting. Why did I think older/more mature people would know better!

Why didn't you go outside BEFORE the dog went and nicely tell the owner to take the dog elsewhere? If you did not have time BEFORE, you should have told the owner, nicely but very firmly, NEVER to let it happen again.

He wasn't embarrassed to allow his dog to do his job, so you shouldn't be embarrassed to tell him your feelings. I would have handed him a bag and said to pick it up and don't come back.

This is the type of thing I worry about with houses so close. Any dog lifting its leg on my property - especially up against my actual lanai. I would never let my little doggie even walk in someone elses yard. Imagine the odor if your backyard or lanai is in a convenient spot for more than one dog? I would have gone out and politely said that they should not allow their dog to use your yard or house as a bathroom.

Happened to me a couple of years back...went outside and called the guy on it while handing him the plastic newspaper sleeve he had neglected to carry with him! Made sure that the next time I saw him and his dog nearing the property that I went to the property edge in time for him to see me sprinkle ground red pepper along the edge of the lawn. To this day he and his dog cross the street before they reach our property. He must have spread the word because no dogs encroach on our property now - and the ground red pepper is just used in my cooking! :)

The red pepper remedy was given to me years ago by our vet when I had need to resolve the same problem up north.

What does the ground red pepper do?

Made the pooch not want to walk along and sniff in the grass any more!

You have to let him know he can't be doing this or it will never stop.

as a responsible pet owner, I am upset by this, too. One of the reasons I bought a courtyard villa is so my pets would not encroach on others. This person makes us all look bad.

I live on a corner lot with a Stop Sign. I have no problem with the dogs peeing at the sign. I do let the owners know that if the dog poops to pick it up and they do. I have a dog and she pees and poops in the yard so the other dogs pick up the scent. Maybe because I am a dog owner I understand that sometimes a dog has to go when a dog has to go and most like doing it on the grass. When I walk my dog it is always on the street and if she has to go it is on the edge of the grass and I pick up after my dog. We are very respectful of others property and many have dogs in our neighborhood so we are all on the same page to keep all happy.

Saving one dog won't change the world, but the world will change for that one dog.

Personally I would have brought out the shotgun. Just kidding, just kidding. I don't have one. Times I wish I did.

Here is what I think. That there are people who would always think of others, not trespass, be responsible and act in a manner that most of us would agree with. I think that they are in the vast majority here in this place, because that is how most of us were raised.

There is a growing and significant number of people who don't care about the rights of others and don't care if they are trespassing and don't care if you like what they do or not.

I also think that there is a majority of people who have dogs, like dogs, enjoy them, don't find them dirty or germy or threatening and that there is a minority of people who are afraid of dogs, dislike them intensely and use this forum as a bully pulpit to bring up negative things about dogs and dog owners any time they can.

Only YOU know who you are. I don't have dogs and by now you know how I feel about them.
