Social Security Administration Office
I went online tonight to find the closest Social Security Office. It's in LEESBURG!!! How the heck, in such a densely populated 55+ place like The Villages is there no Soc. Sec. Office???!!! It makes no sense. It was suggested, since we are all now being pro-active and filling out The Villages survey, we should all comment on that and strongly request a Social Security Administration Office be opened in The Villages. We have plenty of restaurants, nail salons/beauty parlors, why not a Social Security office? It is really important and I am sure many people need it to be closer.

I don't think you really want a Social Security office in The Villages. Some things are better to be outside of this community.

:agree:

It's not like it's so far away. It's easy to find...on the Main St. there! In my "past" life I had to drive about 45 minutes to get to the closest one...the one here is a piece of cake.

Never made it to Leesburg. You can do a lot over the Internet (and phone if necessary).
|
That office has been there for a long time and when it opened The Villages population was not anywhere near what it is today.

They encourage using socialsecurity.gov. Here is one of the many public service announcements that play over and over on the various flat-screen t.v.'s at the SS offices (another state), where I saw that there were no "retirees" there, but mostly unemployable people under age 50.

A Social Security office in The Villages could not be just for Villagers. It would have to be open to surrounding communities. Long lines, parking nightmares, no thanks. The one in Leesburg is close enough
|
I heard the SS office in Leesburg is strictly a call center and that there is no one there you can physically sit down with. Can anyone confirm this? It sure would be nice if there was a SS office somewhere close that a person could have a face to face meeting with. Does anyone know if there is such and where? Thanks.

You will see that retirement benefits are just a small part of Social Security work. |

Sue ... Best to just drive to Leesburg and take care of biz ...then come back.I've been to the office. It's depressing as 1/2 the people in there are usually young kids most with tattoos and down/out, and looking to get on SSDI. Very sad. |

That office was probably there long before TV and SS is not about to just up and move.

And Leesburg is *not* that far away. |
