The Weather Channel

Praise the Lord and pass the hat - the weather channel and Direct TV have come to an agreement and is back on the air. The best part of the agreement is they will be more focused on weather and less on their reality shows. I for one am happy with the outcome. Anyone else care???

Yay!!!!! I like the weather channel and happy it's back.

Weather channel - 24 hours of weather. We had something like that where I grew up. We called it a window.

Never missed them... I like TWC, but if I am worried about weather here, then I watch channel 9 for Tom Terry.. Or 2 or 6.

Not many times I have tuned to TWC for that on TV. IF I am at work then I will got to NOAA or TWC.

My husband and I could not be happier!!! So glad that it is back on DirectTV. It was very much missed. High caliber programming!!

NBC ruined the Weather Chanel when they bought them!

I would like to see more useful information on the Weather Channel than those various reality shows. Not sure why they proliferated so quickly on there. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...ather-channel/ Oh, yes, an attempt at getting better ratings.

Great news.I missed the TV APP for weather on Directv.Hit a few buttons on the remote and you had 10 day local weather.I am up north now and only have Directv in The Villages.Hope the TV App is up and running.

I use the AccuWeather app on my smartphone. It's easy to localize to The Villages and you can add several other cities to track. Radar included, too...handy on the golf course.

I am really tired of all those shows on the Weather Channel instead of doing the weather like they did to begin with. So glad Direct TV insisted on less of that type of programming. Love the weather channel!

Getting rid of the constant "reality" shows is a good 1st step, but I'm not hopeful. The Weather Channel is following in the footsteps of other old standby channels whose brand name is no longer their mission.

MTV now doesn’t play much music.
AMC doesn't play classic movies.
Fox News doesn’t do much real news.
Headline News doesn't do much real news.
SciFi is now the cheap really bad movie channel.
CMT doesn't play much country music videos.

I found the replacement channel "Weather Nation" to be far superior to TWC anyway. I will not go back to TWC. With Weather Nation you got...The Weather. Not a lot of goofy reality shows, not a bunch of leftist politcal slant in their reporting, not a bunch of preening stars..just the weather. No need for TWC for me anymore.

Having worked for years in the broadcast industry I would be very surprised if The Weather Channel actually changed their programming at the request of DirecTV, or any other carrier such as Comcast or DISH Network. They are running the reality programs because that keeps more people watching for a longer period of time thereby inflating their ratings. Why get people to watch for 5 minutes to catch the weather when you can keep them hooked for 30 or 60 minutes with a reality show.

I agree that you hit on the reason TWC currently runs all those reality shows, but if they have in fact agreed to a contract with Direct TV to limit them, I would bet that they will honor that contract.
