Driving CAR instead of golf cart in TV

I would be a little intimidated 'bout driving a golf cart around TV. What's the traffic situation regarding going everywhere in TV with a vehicle.... to pool, rec center, town squares, shopping, the college, ETC.

Is driving a car tedious and how's the parking at all those places? THANKS for all replies ;D

Get over your fear of the golf cart. It will become your best friend when you want to go to the town squares where parking can be a stiff pain in the neck!!!!

We have friends who waited two years before buying a golf cart but they are now delighted to have it.

Yes, you can drive a car everywhere but if you don't have to, it can solve any parking issues on days when things are crowded.

Best of luck!!!

CIB, I don't have a golf cart. I would like one but after major surgery in November with no med insurance pretty much took care of buying one. That doesn't stop me from going where I want or doing what I want. There are exceptions -- I can't join in a golf cart parade, I can't do the poker runs. However, I can always find a parking spot. I can go to any of the Squares. If I want to play golf (big joke there), I can rent something to drag around those silly looking clubs and play. So, having a cart can be a personal choice. They do have advantages (less gas, easier parking) but they aren't a necessity, just a nice thing to have.

A golf cart is not a HAVE to have and if you are comfortable with your car, keep on keeping on. What sells the golf carts to many folks is that they don't enjoy driving a car and they feel more comfortable in the golf cart. I'd say you are doing just fine and for poker runs, you can partner with a friend and go for it!!! ;D

You are supposed to only go up to 19 mph in non street legal golf carts so the time to get certain places in the Villages via golf cart sure is a big factor especially considering how big geographically the Villages is becoming.

There is also the problem that you have very little protection in a golf cart if you get in an accident with an automobile and there are some pretty bad drivers in both golf carts and automobiles in TV.

Jojo -- You go from one spot to another and get a playing card. The best hand at the final point is the winner. That's a poker run (I had to ask, too).

How many decks of cards do they use? Seems you would need a different deck at each house? :dontknow:

One of the things that we liked about TV was the ability to get places by golf cart. I'm sure the traffic, bad now during "high" season, would be horrible without them. Mostly you can get everywhere by using the cart paths so you don't need to go on major roads. In fact, you aren't allowed on major roads. Some roads have cart lanes that are similar to bike lanes. I don't much like those and stay off them when I can. All in all, I love scooting around by golf cart.

Actually, one death per person is about average.

Don't know what the accident/death stats are, but I'd imagine they're minimal. If one were to drive a golf cart around New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, I expect it would be rather dangerous. Driving around TV, even in areas where streets are shared with cars, is a much different deal. I find a cart to be infinitely safer than a bicycle, and much more comfortable.

We got the cart when we got the house, and it definitely adds to the "vacation" feeling as well as being reliable transportation around TV.

When we visited on Preview in May 07 we rented a golf cart for our stay. The rental car stayed in the driveway and we drove the cart everywhere. The golf cart paths and tunnels keep you out of traffic. We did have to drive on road in cart path lane near Spanish Springs, but just like driving car, watch our and drive responsibly. That is one of the appeals for us at TV is leaving car at home and getting around in a cart.

Muncle: I just love, love, love your sense of humor. Sometimes I miss it b/c you just slip it in there. Cool, makes me smile.

I'm coming in mid April to visit and have been told "you have to rent a golf car", and, "don't bother b/c you'll be too busy and don't want to spend your whole week focusing on the golf car". What do y'all think? I'm torn but leaning towards the latter. Opinions requested.

Hi JerseyGirl,
We are visiting TV the beginning of April. We considered taking the shuttle to & from Orlando, and then renting a golf cart while in TV. We mentioned this to our guest co-ordinator. She recommended that we just get a rental car for now. The Shuttle cost is $70.00 per person, each way, I believe. The golf cart rental is about $18.00+ per day. Given those costs vs the cost of renting a car...car it is for us. We will just rent a small one so it fits in easier.
