What do you think of the UN?

I don't know much in depth about the role of the UN, and welcome all comments.

It was disturbing me to hear the UN plans to repair damage in Gaza caused by Israel's defending itself against attacks by Hamas.

Why would UN rush in with megabucks and repair a place that instigates and perpetuates bombing and gets bombed back?

Netanyahu will speak at UN Monday...

What do you think of the UN.....I don't. I suspect that one could produce a list of the number of reason why the UN should go but in the final analysis at least it keeps nations talking.

The UN is ineffective in fighting and/or defending nations. The UN was critical of reports of rape by soldiers but its own troops are as guilty. Wecould go on ad nauseam

chachacha 09-28-2014 09:58 AM

i don't think our membership in the UN benefits us in any way....any vote which would benefit us is vetoed by china or russia. we provide the lion's share of funding for this body while they try to make international agendas which are against our own constitutional laws, such as arms treaty and agenda 21. we do not need our laws influenced by third world dictators with a vote at the UN. it is totally useless.

Useless political money drain of US resources.

If they were a corporation being measured on performance, their doors would have been closed and locked years ago.

CLASSIC example of a well intended organization that has outlived it's purpose and contributes little added value.....but yet remains in tact.

POLITICS = no sense ever burning other peoples $$$$.

Haven't been to the UN lately, but back in the day they had great gift shops. Now I think they're a pain in the butt clogging up traffic.

I'm not so crazy about the place, too many foreigners.

It started off with noble intentions but, since 1945, has morphed into a left wing cesspool by and large. It’s essentially a social club for anti-American governments, tin-horn dictators and associated thugs who’ve taken over their third world countries. It’s also pretty much cowardly and ineffectual in terms of US foreign policy interests. Other than that it’s great.

Get us out of the UN.

Inept American diplomats and politicians allow third world countries to walk all over our interests in the UN.

Without our financial support the organization would fold because other nations fail to pay their share.

UN "Peacekeepers" have been everything from incompetent to disgraceful.

The arrangements for election of the President of the UN is structured so that an American can never hold the position.

Some of the committees are a farce, such as having Cuba and Viet Nam as members of the UN Human Rights Council.

The City of New York loses millions in revenue due to UN members failure to observe local laws, pay traffic and parking tickets, etc.

Efforts continue to make the UN a World Government and have our government subordinate to UN policy. That is the real problem.

What do I think of the UN? Not much!

Indydealmaker 09-28-2014 03:54 PM

Corrupt and ineffective.

As usual, Carl, you hit the nail on the head. An A+ post, for sure.

Excellent point ... I forgot that Cuba and Vietnam are on the UN Human Rights Council.

I have to ask ... does anyone out there in TOTV land really think that having Cuba / Vietnam on the UN Human Rights Council is a peachy idea?

I prefer not to think of the "U.N." Generously corrupt, it has no use for the United States other than to take our funding. Largest spy network on U.S. soil. My blood pressure is going up, so I'm out.

I am with you. Why anyone gives this corrupt and annoying group any kind of attention is beyond me. As with so many good ideas, it is a farce who has long outlived it usefullness if it actually ever had any. It is a COVER GROUP for so much crap.

TNLAKEPANDA 09-28-2014 05:28 PM

The UN has long been a Joke and we should get out and have them move their headquarters out of NYC.

For once, 14 of us agree. Rare moment of unanimity.
