I think an appropriate response might be to refrain from laughter (not easy, but doable), instead to sadly shake your head and say "I'm so sorry, you may want to show that to your doctor". That way you take the shock out of it and give good advice, where he might get some help.

If that doesn't work saying in your most parental tone possible "ok don't make me get out the crazy glue".

I think it would help if the audience turned and boooed.
