Correcting People

What is with the great need to publicly correct people here? If someone misspells a word, including "Sumpter," and the correction does nothing more than show your superior knowledge, why not either say nothing or send a PM with the correct spelling or word suggestion? I really don't understand the need to do this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the no P (ee) in Sumter is a running joke. You could have used a better example but I do Agree with your intention.

It's why so many just read and don't post (like me).
I'm typically a stickler for spelling and grammar, but not on an internet message board.
Between the corrections and the other attacks, it's just not worth it.

I am always surprised how some folks will not do one thing or another based on isolated incidences.

Ignore the one percenters and enjoy the forum like the rest of us!!!

I always throw in a little spelling bait from time to time just to give the one percenters something to chew on!

I remember when Russ Boston started the pee comments, mainly because it was a pet peeve of his and it was a gentle way to let folks know it is "Sumter, " but
imagine you are new to TOTV and the third or fourth reply is correcting your spelling of Sumter. You don't know it's a running joke. You just know you feel like a fool. So, I think it is a perfect example.

We need a POUND SAND icon.

Dee, I personally don't think it is necessary to correct anyone for anything on a public forum that will be on the internet forever. Think how nice it would be here if people were not afraid to post. I have never met a truly ignorant person on TOTV. We could just be tolerant of people and enjoy the forum for whats it's worth.

I am having a hard time relating to what ever it is that would make anyone be "afraid to post".

Maybe it is because I have no problem tuning out the irrelevent one percenters that try to rock any boat. There is no reason what so ever to be intimidated by these isolated few. They are among us no matter where we go or are.

Ignore them.....the best Rx that cures the problem.

Redwitch didn't mean ME. Oh Joy.

Hey moderator,,,,
Is it really that difficult to add spell check to the tool bar mix?
or
Does anyone know a spellcheck browser add on off the top of their head?

In the mean time I’ll look for one.

Walter123 11-18-2014 08:10 PM

Seriously, this is a silly thread. Anyone that gets their "feelings" hurt because someone they don't know corrects their grammar or spelling should stay off public boards.

There already is spell check. Just right click on the word underlined in red. For example right click on the word spellcheck in your post.
