Daily Sun Football Article: "Love of game, life of pain"

This was on the front page of the sports section on Sunday, April 26th.

Five Villagers, all former football players, were interviewed for this article. The subheading was, "Five Villagers recall their days playing on the gridiron, and the ultimate price they continue to pay."

You might still have this news article at home. It's well worth reading. I didn't realize the extent that football players suffer a lifetime of multiple health issues. Basically, what was expressed was a fear of the future due to multiple surgeries and daily aches and pains.

Multiple concussions and the risk of dementia is a big part of it but it's not the only worry. Many former football players have had knee, ankle and foot injuries to the point where they can hardly walk.

Sadly, a lot of knee and joint injuries plague most world-class and professional athletes. Football players and boxers have the added risk of severe brain issues in their future. Sad how neither the athletes nor the public are aware of these risks. Even sadder how little those who do know are willing to speak out or even care.

It's not just football and boxing. Soccer players who use their heads to direct the ball are also experiencing concussions and ongoing problems. Especially women. There was a piece about it a year or so ago. High school girls soccer players are fogging their brains but refuse to quit the sport.

People engage in lots of self destructive behaviors in the name of love. That was in the article's heading: Love of game, life of pain. It's all about love. You've probably heard of battered women who are always attracted to the wrong kind of guy. Or people who love to eat and consume lots of high calorie processed foods.

It's all about love and love is an emotion that often rules people's lives. That's why it's so difficult to change any of these self destructive behaviors.

WHY does everything have to come back to food? This article was not about food.

Well, it wasn't about soccer either. You set the stage for expanding the topic, so I followed your lead.:loco:

But the heading made a comment about love, implying causation. So I expanded on that by giving some examples of how the emotion of love can often lead to a variety of self destructive behaviors. As a matter of fact, I said it's all about love. Notice that I didn't say it's all about food.

Of course you did.

C, I see it your way, and so agree and totally understand your point, and it has been awhile but I really need to say this or I'm gonna cuss.

When one is involved in sports, moderation is a factor worthy of consideration - especially among seniors. What do you think Gracie.

This thread has really wandered off topic, but then many threads do!
Following your logic, are we supposed to get rid of all the love in our life?
Do you think too much love causes people to overeat?
Or do we all need more love in our lives in order to avoid self-destructive behaviors?
