R.v. ??

Hubby and I went to Giant Recreation World today and fell in love with a Coachman Leprechaun 319ds. Salesman told us they run new around $100 grand so they rent them out for one yr then sell them for around $80,000. Would appreciate comments from experienced rv ers on this??

I am a longtime motorhome owner. RV sales people are used car salesmen. If their lips are moving, they are probably lying. You can beat that price by quite a lot buying from a private owner and can most likely get one that hasn't been rented out to smokers, folks with pets, and those who drive it like they rented it. Just google the make and model...you'll see. Don't ever pay anything near sticker price.

Yes agree thank you. We are going to look at a 2013 tomorrow. I will let you know asking price and maybe you could advise us we would really like to stay under $50,000 but maybe we are dreaming we are new to this so have lots to learn

Who rents RV's short term in our area?

hulahips 05-03-2015 07:38 AM

Cruise america down in kissimee and giant rec world in winter garden

when you purchase an RV you always start your offer at 40% off the suggested retail price. Then you work your way to close to 30% , but never anything less than 25% off.

100k offer would be 60k and I would settle for 65 or 72k. Trust me..the markup on RV's is horrific.

Check out youtube, they will show you how to present your offer. Also, don't be fooled into the dealership will only repair the products they sell, thats bull....

We followed those rules and got what we think was a great deal. Negotiate is the key plus internet search.

Goodluck..

Thank you. Your advice is appreciated. What about a 2013 coachmen (resale) where they are asking $87,000?? Has 16,000 miles on it

gomoho 05-03-2015 08:54 AM

Go to rv trader on line and search for that model - will give you a good idea of what used are selling for. In the process ourselves.

That is where we found the 2013 we want to look at. Are you an experienced rv person?? Do you own one now? Do you love the lifestyle?

NADA shows you all the info you need. Resale/ trade and all. Just look at the prices, and average in between the two and drop it 10% and go from there.

We do own a RV, but only use it presently for weekend travel. Hubby is not yet retired but he will be in August and we will be seeing the USA.

We love our RV much more than hotels. The hair on the sink in my RV comes from me and not the last person in the hotel room, and that is what I like the best about my RV.

I am a realtor by trade and love to negotiate. I am also always ready to walk away from the deal if I don't get what I want. Something else always comes along. Or the original sale will call back.

Good luck, check out everything, price wise on the internet, and then go for less, much less. They will either laugh....or counter. But you have to try.

Its a major decision whether to buy or not. Now that I have experienced the advantages, could you tell me the disadvantages minus the costs of course?

gomoho 05-03-2015 05:35 PM
