"After a new law went into effect in January, more than half of all new driver’s licenses issued in California this year have gone to people who are in the country illegally, state officials said.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles reported Friday that it had issued roughly 397,000 licenses during the first six months of this year to people who live in the country illegally. A total of 759,000 licenses were issued."

These people are going to drive whether or not they have a driver license..the driver license will let them have car insurance. That is good.

The driver licenses of undocumented immigrants are marked so the license is not valid for voting purposes.

What problem do you have with the driver licenses for these people?

For me, rewarding someone who is breaking the law and is here illegally is not right.....Just my opinion.

So, you would rather have them driving around (and they WILL drive) without a valid license or car insurance?

If you think that not having a license stops someone from driving, look at the on-line news here and see all those arrested - and bonded out - for driving on suspended licenses. Not having a license does not stop a person from driving!

Nor does not having auto insurance.

It. accomodates, acknowledges and condones the illegal status.
No I am not OK with it.

When I travel in some foreign nations, my US drivers license is not valid nor is my US auto insurance. I could certainly obtain a car and drive it unlikely to be caught. Or I can pay a few dollars and get an international or country specific license for my situation. Is it not obvious that it is better that I get a license and insurance rather than drive illegally? And of course for Mr. Trump, the licenses being issued in California will also create a data base with names, photos and addresses for rounding up all those rapists and murderers when he is elected. /snark if you can't tell

It's not OK with me, but until 2016, there is nothing we can do about it. I'm not sure there is enough of us left to matter anyway, but we still have to keep on voting.

Why isn't issuing a driver license to an undocumented person okay with you? It verifies that they have passed a test and they can now get car insurance. Isn't that better than just getting in a car and driving?

Don't worry, it is not valid for voting purposes due to special marking on the license.

Why does it seem to not matter that issuing lisences and allowing to buy insurance or what ever else some think these folks should have....that you have blown past the FACT they are here illegally. And issuing or allowing the same privledges as LEGAL residents and citizens acknowledges and sends a signal ....no problem if you are here illegally.

Why is it OK for them to be here illegally let alone collecting resident and citizen benefits......other than protecting and future seeding the voting block.

When we are finally out numbered and you are told most likely in Spanish what you will and will not do then it will be too late.

Laws for issuing driver's licenses and car insurance are determined by state legislatures, so unless posters are moving to California there is little anyone on this forum can do about it.

The question was is it OK with you.....not what would you or what can we do about it!

The "well there going to anyway argument" is and has always been a false narrative. Secondly by doing so it compounds their illegal acts. Third by issuing a driver's license it provides an ID which they will use to operate freely including voting. And do you suppose the reason they were issued in the first place had anything to do with voting...perish the thought.

Send all illegals back and charge their native countries for the costs of the rounding them up and sending them back

When you use the PC term "undocumented immigrants" you quickly blow your cover. They are illegal aliens in every sense of the word.

Countries that are not afflicted by insanity do NOT give any legal status or driver's' licenses to people who have entered the country ILLEGALLY. Instead, they find them and escort them out. If they come back again, they go to prison.

This is not a difficult subject if one's mind is not warped by liberalism which, after all, is a most unfortunate form of mental illness.

Of course it's not OK but in this country Anything goes. You can be illegal, drive a car uninsured, smoke pot while wearing a burka, commit a crime and just find a sanctuary city. It's all the new norm and Americans too busy playing iPhone to care
