What can I do?

My fiance' and I have a dream of living in the villages. We plan on visiting in Oct., purchasing the beginning of next yr, and renting it out until we can permanantly reside in TV in 2 yrs.
The problem is.... I have a son who is 13 and will be 15 when we plan on moving. From all I have read, it is not permitted for him to live at TV until he is 19. Is this correct? Are there any alternatives?
Please help!!!!

So far as I know, the 19 YO rule is set in stone. Send Cassie a PM. She may have some answers for you.

Didn't they recently open a new village over near Buffalo Ridge Plaza that is a family friendly neighborhood?? This is not to say WE aren't family friendly, it's just a rule that does make sense
You might give the sales office a call and discuss it with them.
In any event good luck and welcome

Thanks all!!! :)

I will check into these suggestions. Does anyone happen to know of another communities like the villages (is there anything that remotely compares?)that I can check into?

There are other very nice retirement communities, however nothing compares to The Villages. I would think at your young age you would find The Villages, with all it has to offer for active adults, the perfect place for you to live. Do be carefull of making Koolaid with the local water. This water makes one at 60 feel 30 and behave accordingly. Now be advised this is my observation but your welcome to check it out. Don't say I didn't warn you ;D

Re: What can I do?

The Villages has (2) family-friendly villages. The older one is off of 466 and not golf-cart accessable. The brand new one is behind the Buffalo Ridge shopping area, very near the high school (within walking distance), and is golf cart accessable.

These villages were originally to be for families that worked within The Villages; however, the homes are now available for any family (whether you work here or not).

Hope this helps.

Be advised Suzie, that people not residing IN The Villages do not enjoy The Villages' amenities (golf, pools, recreation centers, etc.). Anyone, however, is allowed to visit the town squares and enjoy the free entertainment. The family neighborhoods noted before are NOT in The Villages just adjacent.

I would guess that places referred to as adult retirement communities will have a minimum age cutoff. Plus, it might not be in a teens best interest to move them to an adult retirement community. They will not have peer relationships. I would not have wanted to live here at age 15.

Ditto. Can you imagine taking a girl to a prom and having to get pic's at mom and dad's house? Or inviting friends over after school to play? Very un-cool for teen's.

I agree with a recent poster who by the way is a psychiatrist. I think that your child would be happier somewhere else, for now.... and we all hope to still be here when he is launched. You will be so welcome, whenever you get here! :welcome: :agree:

Graciegirl.... you blew my cover! Anyway, being a "shrink" doesn't make me an automatic expert on stuff like this. I just remember growing up with all my friends, you know, the old days where you went from kindergarten thru high school in the same neighborhood. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Teens would not be happy campers in TV.

Dont know how I missed this...

I would like to say that there truly are certain children...or soon to be teens...or teens....that would LOVE TV's...not most....but there are a few!!!!

Thankfully I have one....and she can visit as often as possible...not using the amenities mind you...although I do pay the fees....just gets to ride the golf cart when we do...

We all the TV's...and are glad we own here and rent close by....if she was allowed to live her....she would be the Mayor!! and she would do a great job......she is a 60 year old in an 11 yr old body!! :1rotfl:

The Championship golf courses, Polo Stadium, Savannah Center, airport shuttle, Country Club restaurants and some other amenities are open to the public but at a higher fee, except restaurants, than for Villages residents.
