Horrible Experience with City Furniture

We, too, had a horrible experience with City Furniture. Bought a bed (for my 6'5 husband for medical issues) and was told that it could be returned within 120 days if we didn't like it, and now I'm being told that they can take the mattress back but not the base it is on (it is electric) and that I will have to take a credit slip to buy more furniture at their store. Don't think so. Not happening.

As I advised the other complaint, contact your credit card company, and explain what is going on, they should be able to get your money back.

If you look at other forums within TOTV you will notice City Furniture is mentioned a lot and the complaints are MANY. Don’t know why anyone, that’s been on TOTV, would shop there??? I would not step foot in place that has so many unhappy customers.

Seems wierd to me that they would take the mattress back and not the base. The mattress would be a possible health issue with a persons body laying on it and more difficult to resale than the base. Definitely contact and complain to everyone you can. Also let City Furniture know you are doing this so they can see the possible bad advertising they will be getting.

Selling out the Southern Lifestyles classic, quality furniture business and prime retail space to low-end City Furniture has been a huge downgrade of retail at Lake Sumter Landing.

Then to make it worse, the Distict Government offices moved into the beautiful retail showrooms next to Panera.

How many times do we have to watch classic, tasteful retail "downtown" shopping die? We all watched the slow death of it in other cities in the last 40 years, and now TV is doing it to the beautiful town square at LSL.

Please listen!!! People want quality, tasteful retail that's open in the evenings as our squares are. If all the storefronts turn into offices that close at 5pm, people will not come in the evenings and the death of "downtown" is coming.

I've had a very good experience with City Furniture as many others have had.
I understand bad experiences can happen, but these forums seem to attract chronic complainers! IMHO

To all the people who have had good experiences with City Furniture, just wait till their cheap Chinese, North Vietnam made furniture starts to fall apart in a year or two.

Remember you get what you pay for.

And you've had personal experience?
And just where do you
think most furniture is manufactured these days?

I highly recommend Showcase Furniture in Mount Dora. Can't go wrong - good prices and they deliver.

Front row seat again for this topic. Some people learn by the mistakes of others. But, MANY don't.

Correction, Vietnam. We lost, they won. And I agree, it's totally cheap crap.

We went to City Furniture last week looking for an entertainment unit and instead fell in love with a sofa/love seat combo. However, we didn't love the two colors on display. We asked if other colors were available and were told no. We asked about the delivery options and were told that free delivery was to the garage or overhang to protect from weather and that delivery and setup inside the house was an additional 10% of the purchase price. Also, they wouldn't haul away the old furniture.

Then after reading about Kent Furniture in Bellevue here on TOTV, we decided to check them out. We asked if they carried the same sofa, etc as City and they did. The price tag showed almost twice as much as City but then the sales person said they price match, free delivery and setup and they will remove the old furniture. Then he brought out the fabric samples with at least 50 different colors and materials to choose from. He told us we could bring the samples home if we want.

All in all, shopping at Kent turned into a great experience. No pressure, we were able to take our time, we found exactly what we wanted and we felt like we got a good deal. And the furniture we selected is made in the USA.

I agree. Although we don't need to accept shoddiness in any form, there are many good shops in TV that may be hurting and at risk. If you love the downtown support them for our mutual benefit. As far as the few empty units, what stores would you frequent often? A cutesy store that is nice to walk through but makes no sales isn't going to last long. Online shopping has become so convenient too but sometimes it is better to actually see and handle the product before purchase and take it home right away.
