Bad News for Villages Health Care
 

I recently heard stories on two financial news sources that United Health Care, one of this country's largest health insurance companies, has reported the loss of "hundreds of millions" of dollars in its Medicare health insurance business. The dollar value of its stock has suffered a steep decline and the company is seriously considering withdrawing completely from involvement in Obama-care related Medicare health insurance after the year 2016.
Such an action would not bode well for The Villages Health Care System which just announced it will only accept new patients who are covered by United Health Care Medical Advantage Plans, which are Medicare HMO/PPO plans. Talk about being thrown under the bus!
Any comments on this situation?

I read the news articles as United Health Care was only considering withdrawing from the Obamacare state exchanges. I did not get the impression they were withdrawing from Medicare.

Perhaps you are correct. I may have misinterpreted the stories.

What does UHC's possible withdrawal from Obamacare plans have to do with their traditional or advantage medicare plans?? Answer----Nothing. What impact would there be on those under 65 in TV Health system. Answer--probably nothing as well, --how many Villagers get their insurance from UHC through the exchanges?? Very few I would think. Thread should be titled "No news for the Villages Health Care".

I get my health insurance through the exchange. I am retired pre Medicare. I have selected UHC's bronze HSA 100 plan for 2016. This is the cheapest United Health Care offering to me. It has a $13000 deductible ($6500/individual). The premium is $1569.71/month for me and my spouse. That's right - that's $18837/year plus whatever we use for deductible. Hard to believe UHC can't make money. It typically cost my household > $25000/year for health expenses. Not often do I wish to be older but I get a huge raise come Medicare time.

there are gold plans on the marketplace with 800/mo premiums pp, you are getting screwed. you must have used an agent to get that 'bargain'.

I'm assuming that if anyone is pre-Medicare age and they purchased their UHC coverage through an exchange and is receiving a tax subsidy, they will lose the subsidy and pay higher premiums.

He pointed out that the premium for two is just under $1600 for a basic plan. $800/month pp = $1600. You're saying that would buy a "gold" plan?

UHC does not offer an Obamacare product in Sumter county, so the poster must be referring to his cost in his home state.
