The Politics of Fear and Hate Make Their Appearance in The Villages

I have an Obama/Biden sign on the windshield of my golf cart. On Friday My wife and I were returning from a trip to Spanish Springs. At a point in the path where we were just coming out of a right angle turn, another on-coming cart was slowing down to make the turn. As our carts passed, the driver in the approaching cart shouted out at us, “Traitors!” In an instant, this person had spewed forth his opinion of anyone who apparently does not support Senator John McCain and the policies he professes.

I was amazed at how upsetting it was to find myself the target of this troglodyte’s venom. Moreover, it is hard to think of a rational response to such a wholly irrational and hate-filled action as was directed to us. The McCain campaign has, for weeks, sponsored ads and unleashed Governor Sarah Palin to espouse the politics of fear and division. I was the recipient of the results of one Villager’s acceptance and actual practice of this hate-based politics. Now, Mr. McCain has tried to put the Genie back into the bottle as attendees at his political rallies are openly and actively revealing the extent to which they have accepted, believe in, verbalize and adopted the politics of fear. I would like to believe Mr. McCain’s remonstrance would end the appeals to man’s baser instincts, but I am realistic enough to know it won’t.

I do know that one man’s indecent behavior does not speak for the entire, larger community. Let us hope that most other Villagers who support Mr. McCain and the policies he espouses would pursue their politics on a more rational and less hate-filled level.

Need to put it in neon lites....

I will NOT be voting for Obama, however I will support the winner. No hate from this Republican only voting my preference and hope you do also.

Think of what President Bush has been called from day one of his presidency. That does not excuse the person calling you a traitor. That's childish.

We Reap What We Sow
 

I was having coffee and reading the paper this morning with the TV on in the background. They switched between a McCain campaign rally and an Obama rally. McCain was ranting about all the bad things that Obama would do were he elected, inciting boos from the crowd and hesitating to wait for the boos and jeers. Then the channel switched to an Obama rally where he was moderating a panel discussion with audience questions regarding the economic situation. It was calm, informative and positive.

Unfortunately, Magoo seems to have experienced the hatred that has been imbedded by the almost constant drumbeat of negative and personally derogatory campaigning by John McCain. That really is too bad. At the outset of the campaign I was pleased that we almost couldn't go wrong with whichever of the candidates was elected. I was unsure who would get my vote. i can't say that now. McCain, his party and his advisors have adopted a totally negative campaign, believing that will convince more of the undecided voters than a campaign on the high road as he initially promised. If his advisors are right, he may pick up a few undecided voters. But speaking for myself, he lost me.

I'm hopeful that the disrepair among Americans created during this campaign can be assuaged once the election is over, but my hopes aren't too high. We will reap the bitterness that has been sown, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, it will be at a time when there are sufficient problems facing a new President that would be helped with the broad support among all citizens.

There is the kettle calling the pot black, lets send a pre-recorded message to all telling them Obama works closely with a known Terrorist, That is what your voting for.
Hummmm, dont think i remember hearing obama camp doing that with G Gordon Liddy, Heck i believe Obama held his own in the last debate when McCain was crying to find out about Ayers. Then after the debate Obama's numbers went up. Who are you kidding, Was that a Republican or Democrat crying the blues about anit-american thought in in Congress, Oh yes almost slipped my mind.. Repbulican from Minnesota, or was the His Highness Rush L. calling it a racial move yesterday on the radio. You dont hear that from Obama. At his rally when people started booing McCain, he told them we dont do that hear,, just vote.
But you probable are the type that like to stir up the pot, which is cool. But remember, you cant call the pot black when your the kettle.....

I receive so much hate mail directed at Sen. Obama and wonder where all these hate mongers are going when he is elected. Is the real reason his politics or his color? :sad:
