Snake in CYV lanai

We discovered a black racer snake in our lanai this morning. Snakes don't bother my wife at all but I'm not very partial to them especially if they surprise me. Rather than send my wife to get him out I manned up and got it out the door. When I first saw it it looked 6' long and as big around as a silver dollar but was really only 3' and big around as a dime (in fattest part). My question is I don't see anyway for a snake to get in other then the two corners where siding meets screen frame of lanai. Has anyone had any luck with sealing up these gaps and how did they do it. I will rent out wife if anyone has a snake they want to get rid of.

Congrats on letting it out and not killing it as many would.

Had one come in under screen door.

As another said....thanks for not killing. :)

A few summers ago, I had 6-7 snakes get into my lanai over the course of the summer. I never felt anything about snakes, never thought about it. The first one, I panicked, called a male friend and he said, no way Jose, you've got the wrong guy. Called Community Watch who came over and taught me not to kill them but he scooted it out of the lanai with a broom. By the end of that summer, I was a pro at handling these lovely little creatures. My biggest problem was my schnauzers wanted to play with them and Sam literally had one curled up in his mouth. UGH!!!!! My secret is, I use the longest BBQ tongs I can find, pick up the snake in the middle, and tossed it back outside towards my pond. For some reason, they seem to like me. I live in a CYV now and sure enough, saw one in the back yard yesterday. Oh well, the trials and tribulations of living in FL.

Afraid of snakes big, little, alive dead. if a snake got into my lanai I'd abandoned my home. snakes are territorial just like squirrels and so either I'd hire someone to take the critter far and away or I'd send him to snake heaven
because if he was just removed to the back door he'd be back in my lanai pronto just like an anole

You’ll know when I see a snake in my home, there will be a For Sale sign in the front yard.

Is there a service you can call to have a snake removed ASAP? Can one truly snake proof their home? If you can, does the exterminator provide that service?

Yuk...I hate snakes!!

Most people who say they hate snakes have never held or handled a domesticated snake. They are actually very gentle and affectionate. Even if I can't sway you to that, I would rather have a harmless snake around than the disease carrying rats that are obviously around that they are feeding on. Snakes will stay in an area were there is food. Their favorite is rats and mice. The presence of non-venomous snakes will also discourage venomous snakes from coming into the area. For me I would rather see a snake than rats that carry diseases and can chew the wiring in my home and car.

we get them in our garage....i line the entire garage door with moth balls and use sticky rat pads near the corners.

Garage smells like moth balls....but havent seen a snake inside in a while...so...who knows...works for me..

Sssidney Snake

I discovered that a snake was living in the wall of my house in Tampa, and coming into my kitchen under a sliding door between the kitchen and living room. He was either friendly or curious because he would poke his head out from under the door and watch me when I was watching TV. I named him Sssidney.

I could have easily shot him with my air powered pellet gun, but chose to try to trap him and release him humanely. The glue releases when vegetable oil, such as Canola Oil, is poured on it.

I purchased a Cahaba (brand) Snake Trap through Amazon, but a previous poster mentioned using "sticky rad pads" which appear similar. The trap is just a plastic container, open at both ends, in which you put the sticky pad.

When I put the Snake Trap in place the snake would avoid it. But when I put a little piece of sausage on the sticky paper I caught him within five minutes.

To see alternative sticky pads enter "sticky rat pads" in your web browser.

For those of us that would rather sell the house, snake included. Is there such a thing as a snake removal service?

I have held several snakes, mostly when zoo handlers had snakes for the public to hold. But, that was under a controlled situation. I'm not disagreeing with what you said....bottom line still is: I Hate Snakes!!
