that was close!

I was driving my golf cart to Brownwood. It was a bright sunny day, as I want down into the tunnel I went from sunlight to dark, had my sunglasses on, which made it darker and almost ran into a walker, dressed in navy. He was in the right lane, so was I. It's a good thing I was driving slow and had quick reflexes. My heart skipped a beat I'm still thinking about it. The bottom line is "be careful out there."

You and the walker are both very fortunate. Things could have easily went very bad. Good thing you were on the ball. Walkers and joggers should always walk against traffic.

With your luck running very high, did you run out and buy several Lottery tickets.

Another example of how dangerous it can be walking or riding a bike in a tunnel!!

Mudder 03-03-2016 05:56 PM

Don't you just want to scream at the walkers with dark clothes who walk on the wrong side of the road? Well really I want to scream at all walkers on wrong side regardless of what they are wearing. I'd want to be able to see what is about to hit me. This is by far my biggest pet peeve. I often wonder what the walker reaction would be if I stopped and told them that they are endangering themselves.

We live in Caroline off Stillwater. When walking to LSL, we never take the tunnel under Morse. We walk several hundred feet north on Morse away from the traffic circle and wait until we have a clear walk across Morse. That is simply our option for what we think is a safer idea in this area.

I agree but walkers, runners, bikers, skaters - anyone not on a golf cart - needs to wear reflective clothing (it helps the old people that can't see so well anymore to see you better).

mtdjed 03-03-2016 07:23 PM

There are old people here?? I don't think so. They all seem to be about my age.

I hope you all hold your breath in the fume-filled tunnels to avoid lung contamination from the stinky gas-powered golf carts.

devohna 03-03-2016 08:28 PM

you can never be to careful, today we golfed at Bacall and on the way a man on a white golf cart in front of us pulled out 3 different times in front of cars. we stayed back as to not get involved if he got hit but his attitude was pretty sad and could have cared less. i was glad when he turned opposite of us as i did not want to see him splattered all over the road. so rather you are on a white golf cart in the day light or wear dark cloths while walking safety is not being observed by alot of people

At least those of us that have gas-powered golf carts aren't limited to how far we want to drive or where there might be a "charging station" to mooch free electricity.

How long are you in a tunnel, maybe 4 seconds, 5 seconds tops? Wow....

So far this week we had a car turn in front of our golf cart as we passed by the dog park parking lot. We had to shut the cart down to stop from hitting it. Then we came thru the Sanibel gate preparing to turn left on Charlotte. We were approaching Charlotte in the turn lane in back of a golf cart, when suddenly a car came off of Bradford Loop, turning left in BACK of the golf cart, and right in front of us as we were pulling up to Charlotte. Please everyone, enough stupidity, think before you drive and don't be in that big a hurry!

Very scary! My heart would have been racing as I'm sure yours was.
Amazing how fast something bad can happen!
So glad you were able to stop.

I was going to ask what a walker should do to get around safely and you answered my question very well: Stay out of the tunnels. Thanks.

No one is going to listen to you. People are going to keep being stupid.

What are you personally going to do to avoid dangerous situations like the ones you described.?

I am glad you were very alert and driving slow. Good for you.
