solicitors

does anyone know who we call when we get people at our door selling stuff??? i know this community does not allow these people..but yet they come IN..HOW?? who do we call about this?

Bryan 05-13-2016 04:41 AM

The community does not allow solicitors in our villages but, as our streets are public streets, we cannot keep them off the streets. When they venture off the street to your front door to solicit, it is up to you to tell them there is no soliciting and to leave. "No Soliciting" is also on the gate arm at each gate so there is no way they can't see it. If they do not do so, call 911. If they do leave and go to another house to solicit, you can notify Community Watch who will "watch" them but cannot run them off.

Front door solicitors "do not call callers" won't be put off short of being convicted of a crime.

the government federal state local passes laws that mean nothing.

the only way I found of dealing with it all is avoidance. Its not a perfect solution by any means but no one is stopping these persistence people

How is it then when soon after closing the water treatment sales people knock on doors ? How do they know you just closed unless someone from the developer tells them ???
No soliciting ?

Water softener people hound new areas. Always have as long as we have been here, as do Welcome Wagon folks and some Evangelists. I don't think the developer releases anything like that. Purchasing a home is public knowledge.

It's not public knowledge until recorded at the county clerk. These people hit new homeowners within a few days time.

When lizards invade my space, we swoosh them out with a water pistol. I'm thinking about solicitors now. Is that acceptable?

Good call Rickey, the developer gets first crack at everything.

Yep.

Obviously though, the folks who drive around throwing little sandwich bags with a rock and their business cards on driveways didn't make the 'preferred list.' :D

How would the developer profit from water softener businesses?

kstew43 05-13-2016 08:40 AM

I am sure just as in every other business...names are sold to companys to use as sales lists.

In real estate they are called "leads" and they can be purchased from developers and business or any other establishment that wants to make a profit... and sells there contacts....

The closing information is not available from county records for a least 30 days.....

:) The correct answer to the question is:

Community Standards
Phone: 352-751-3912

911 if they give you a hard time or you feel threatened.

Had a young man show up yesterday wanting to trim some shrubs. Wasn't interested but went out later to the garage and noticed a gallon of oil I had left by the garage door (out of sight from the road) was missing. Hmm!

Say no, tell them to,leave because they are tresspassing and let them know you will call the police. Do not respond in any way to the sales pitch. Any other response will keep them yacking out the sales pitch.
