Obamas Nuclear Farewell : WSJ 8.5.16 Editorial

" With his time in office winding down, President Obama plans to make a valedictory round of changes to U.S. nuclear weapons policy. The aim is to cement his cherished " Prague Agenda " , named for the Czech city where in 2009 he set out his vision for a nuclear free world . The moves would more likely cement his legacy for arms control illusions that are producing a new era of nuclear proliferation ."

" Mr. Obama`s Prague Agenda has consisted mostly of shrinking and weakening the US nuclear arsenal , as he did by signing the 2010 New Start Treaty [ The Reset Button ] with Russia and deferring the modernization of aging US nuclear platforms ."

" This gives America`s friends reason to doubt its nuclear umbrella ,while giving adversaries more incentive to grow their arsenals . "
" Mr. Obama has already entered a brave new world of executive overreach by ignoring Congress on immigration and sending the Iran Deal to the UN before submitting it as a " non-treaty " to The US Senate . This would be a new low , undermining America`s nuclear deterrent while showing contempt for congressional bounds . "

Most people posting and calling out names on this site would not be able to grasp the very serious message contained in the OP .

Serious business . Where is the main stream media on this --- silent as usual .

Guest 08-05-2016 08:10 PM

I don`t like the sound of this . Could it be true ? If so we are in very deep trouble .

How big is our nuclear arsenal? How many times can we blow up the entire world? Our nuclear arsenal is never going to go away unless of course Trump gets elected president, and uses it. This is the same fear mongering as about the strength of our military. We are so head and shoulders above the rest of the world that a little reduction isn't going to hurt us at all. If the Republicans were so worried about the strength, they would never have push the sequester to get to a balanced budget.

It is NOT just about the number of nukes we have it is about the very old technology that drives it . Some of our delivery / launch systems are reliant on floppy discs to launch them .

Many of our bunkers are rusting into poor condition . Sixty -Minutes covered these issues within the past year . In fact there is a particular wrench that is necessary to tighten certain parts on
a particular type of launch vehicle that is in such short supply that the crews have to send it from one to another via Fed-Ex .

True, but they put on a good show. They just slammed Hannity pretty hard.

Yes, I read it and thought to myself that Obama from day one has made every effort domestically, economically militarily and with foreign policy to weaken this nation. One has to be guarded about the reasons but irrespective of Obama's motives he has been on the wrong side of the argument from day one. He seems to be unaware of the manifest consequences of his actions. I suppose he is narcissistic enough to believe his own press about his omnipotence

Now we have Hillary who wants to have the baton passed to her so she can continued down this road to perdition. And as noted on these pages we have the uninformed that applaud their efforts and to deflect further marginalize one of the more honest and informative publications left. It is indeed exasperating at times to have to deal with people whose only response to an article such as this is "oh that old rag" vis a vis commenting on the implications of said policy. One wonders why they participate in political talk when they don't talk but offer bumper sticker phrases and name calling believing that is their argument...and the beat goes on

PS. Since you certainly don't really mean it, why don't you just drop the.... "Personal Best Regards?"

At least then, folks wouldn't see what a flaming hypocrite you are. ;)
