Wish me luck!

Later this coming week, I am planning on making my low and slow trek to Florida from Ohio. I sure hope that a hurricane doesn’t delay the trip. I am doing it alone as my wife is driving to Florida from D.C. and my brother prefers flying in jets.

My overnight stop is at an airport west of Atlanta where a fatal mid-air occurred this past month. Other than going down in mountainous terrain, a mid-air is what I fear most about flying. While in Florida, I might add landing in a swamp with alligators to that list.

I hate driving to Florida because it’s a long drive and I find it’s hard for me to stay awake while driving. As the flight will require six refueling/ pit stops, I hope to not fall asleep at the stick. However, the time spend flying will equal that of a road trip to Florida. A J-3 Cub is a very slow aircraft.

I recently watched the movie Sully to get me in the right frame of mind. However as Ernest Gann wrote, Fate is the hunter. :icon_wink:

You can do it. We have faith in you. If you need to alter the plan and add an extra day whats the big deal. Good Luck!

My sister just drove down from Tennessee, and she was unaware that Georgia and some other states through there are having gas delivery problems. She found some stations with bags over all the pump handles. You might want to keep that in mind.

Maybe you can get some jerry cans and tie them to the wings then you would be modern with wing tanks. That really would be a long way with a cub. Where do you keep it when you are here. Let us know when you get here hope all goes well.

You missed the wink!

I truly love to fly or I wouldn’t be doing it. I am excited to be able to take aerial pictures of all of the new construction in and around TV to share with others on this site. And, for those that weigh less than 230 and are physically able to enter and exit the Cub, I share an invite to take a flight with me around TV in the future.

Good luck, fellow Buckeye! Barb, from Troy.

Be very careful. I like jousting with you.

You have a St. Christopher statue in that airplane?

Lord guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces of the sky;
Be with them traversing the air
In darkening storms or sunshine fair.

Thou who dost keep with tender might
The balanced birds in all their flight,
Thou of the tempered winds, be near,
That, having thee, they know no fear.

Aloft in solitudes of space,
Uphold them with thy saving grace.
O God, protect the men who fly
Thro' lonely ways beneath the sky.

Amen

I am leaving early this Friday to fly into the eye of the storm. Actually, I hope to arrive in TV late Saturday if the weather is flyable and the damage minimal. All of the hotel rooms, I got the last one were booked in a small community just west of Atlanta for my overnight stay. People are traveling that far to miss Matt.

So, I might have to sleep in the Cub if I get closer to TV yet can’t make it to the Inverness airport. Then, if there is a little wind I get rocked to sleep.
