Matthew, what have you done to prepare?

The NWS had our wind gusts at 45.
I threw away my hidden in the shrubs hoard of plastic pots and ate the ice cream.
Then prediction was 65.
I tucked away the lanai furniture and put jugs of water in the freezer.
Now it is 55.
What are y'all doing?

I am hearing ghastly predictions and I wonder where they come from.

Out of an abundance of caution...

I was checking around the outside of our house for any items that could be dangerous during the storm... saw our hanging name/address sign on the front lamp post. Thought better safe than...
Pulled the horizontal rod out of the post along with the sign (ours is heavy metal). And put it all in the garage. Would rather not have that come loose during heavy winds and go flying around the 'hood.
Just an FYI to all. Takes 2 minutes.

I've already removed our sign.

I'm making rice and beans. It freezes well and always tastes great. And I'm doing all the regular stuff.

Took lanai furniture and plants inside. Our home is a corner lot opened to the street.

We moved lanai furniture into the garage. We also moved a bench and decorative items from outside the front entranceway and landscape bed into the garage. The gas grill is now in a corner of the lanai least exposed to wind.

Raining in Gilchrist now.
Gassed up today. Wildwood police directed traffic at Colony gas station.
Offered rooms to friends in historical district.

Cancelled my 4:29 tee time at Bacall

Turned off my sprinklers for Saturday in case I forget (sensor not working).

I am not minimizing this for folks on the coast or flood areas and will hope that people keep themselves safe. Being this far inland and being in a modern home, the only thing I worry (too strong a word) about is the chance of a tornado.

I heard a good suggestion today from one of my south Florida friends. Once you get everything inside your refrigerator and freezer, take a picture of the insides and how items are arranged. That way, if you need to get something out, you know exactly where it is so as not to leave the door open any longer than necessary. Also, on a funnier note, fill your washing machine with ice and you can store beer in there ! Good luck everyone.

I bought wine, beer, tequila and fireball and invited my friends from Melbourne Beach to come for the party!

bluedivergirl 10-06-2016 02:32 PM

Put the grill in the garage, along with planter stands. Tucked the patio furniture against the house. Charged everything. Washed and dried everything. Bought extra cat food and water. Filled a giant pot with water (don't have a tub). Do have a hot tub should power go out for a while. Got out the battery lamp.

Can't think of anything else!
