Do you use facebook?

Saying goodbye to friends and family back home, seems to be the biggest emotional negative that Village residents speak of.

I never thought that Facebook would be of interest to me. I joined and now, I speak regularly with my daughter as well as nieces and nephews that I rarely had contact with. I have also been contacted by tons of old friends and former colleagues. My sister is also a frequent Facebook friend.

I think I am closer now with my nieces and nephews than I have ever been.

Does anybody else use/enjoy facebook?

graciegirl 09-24-2009 04:26 PM

I do. I know a lot of regulars on here do too.

At one time TOTV was jokingly called " Facebook for Geezers".

Don't blame me...I am just repeating gossip.

Jan,

I do - it is a great way to stay in touch and reconnect with "old" friends...

Biker B 09-24-2009 05:08 PM

I never logged on to facebook but it sounds interesting

Yes...we use Facebook. We keep in touch with our son and his wife in Germany and our daughter who is attending vet school in London. It's also great for keeping in touch with extended family. Next to Skype it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Bettiboop 09-24-2009 05:18 PM

I too use it to keep in touch with family, old classmates and friends.

SteveFromNY 09-24-2009 05:25 PM

Same here. Good way to see what's going on with friends, sharing pictues, finding out what's going on.

escapequeen 09-24-2009 05:45 PM

Yes, I use facebook daily.

My wife and I use Facebook every day to keep up with the daily lives of our family and friends. It is a great tool. We're not out of the loop just because we moved. I also recommend Skype or iChat combined with a computer-cam to have a face to face chat with your loved ones who are far away. It really helps with the feelings of separation to actually see your family; show them something you bought; see your grandchildren and be able to talk to them. Loving the new technology.

No, I don't use Facebok. Until recently I never thought there was any reason for me to join.

Recently I have been considering joining Facebook for exactly the reason mentioned by Talk Host - staying in touch with my nieces. One niece recently got married and she has now posted some of her wedding pictures on Facebook. Another niece told me she maintains a Facebook page where she updates pictures of her family. She also mentioned that several other family members have a presence on Facebook.

I am a Facebook junky:):) At first I was reluctant because my college age kids were on and I didn't want to see anything a mom shouldn't see! Now that they are becoming "mature" young adults it has really been a lot of fun to keep up with what they are doing AND I have made contact with a lot of old friends and relatives. Try it....you won't be dissapointed:pepper2::pepper2:

Yes, my son helped me sign-up for a facebook account. He is in college so it is an excellent way to keep in touch with him.

One thing I didn't expect were all those "friend requests." Initially, they were overwhelming coming in from many of my son's friends, relatives and even some long lost classmates. I have a few people that I "hide" because they are too active and take up all my home page.

I love seeing the pictures my son posts while he and his friends are out having fun. So far they've all been fairly tame (knock on wood).

I'm surprised at how often I check Facebook - at least daily. It is a great way to keep up with kids and share pictures. I'm told that over age 50 is the fastest growing demographic on Facebook.

I think I was one of the first users of Facebook. I've been on it for a few years now. I started out on MySpace, but it got to be very commercial and was geared more for the kids. It is a great tool. I have been posting pictures of our house being built so that our daughter, sisters, brother, neices and nephews can all keep up with the progess. I have Facebook friends from all areas of my life: relatives, co-workers, high school classmates, old friends and new friends. It's a great way to get little updates on their lives. (and I'm secretly addictied to all the Facebook games!)

I love Facebook. I joined it shortly after I moved here this summer to keep up with what my friends are doing back home in Alabama. I don't really write much but feel a part of things by reading everyday.
