Write Your Member of Congress about Supporting Libraries.

Worth an e-mail or a letter.

Quote:

The Museum and Library Services Act of 2017 was introduced today by Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Susan Collins (R-ME), Thad Cochran (R-MS), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). The 2017 MLSA (S. 2271) reauthorizes the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), showing congressional support for the federal agency. IMLS administers funding through the Library Services Technology Act (LSTA), the only federal program that exclusively covers services and funding for libraries. LSTA provides more than $183 million for libraries through the Grants to States program, the National Leadership Grants for Libraries, the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program, and Native American Library Services.

What you can do:

Contact your Senators and urge them to show support for libraries by becoming a cosponsor of S. 2271. Tell them how your library supports the constituents of their state, and tell them how LSTA funds enable your library to offer valuable services to your community

We don't need libraries...everything is available on-line.

What?

What can I get at a library I can't get online?

Books, periodicals, reference, audio, video...it's all available.

You must still be living in the 1980s.

What you could find in a library is still vastly different than what you could find online. And what you would have access to as well.

Libraries are cornerstones of democracy. Benjamin Franklin understood that and business leaders in 2017 probably do too like Bill Gates.

Actually I think he’s stuck around 1992.

I agree, hard to justify the budgets they have for these elaborate buildings, that nobody but window lickers use. The money would be better spent on repairing failing bridges...

Is this idiot still writing his stupid library cr@p on here? Every time I happen to visit this site, it is inundated with library or Hollywood cr@p from numnuts.

When will the mods realize that taltarzac725 hurts their business model and profitability. If they would just ban him he would have to come back under a different screen name and never ever again mention the library 224, movie, etc BS again.

TOTV would become more popular and profitable. Members would be happy.

Maybe in 2018, God willing.
