Frog Invasion
 

We recently moved into the Fenney section and have been overrun by small frogs. We also have 2 dogs and one of them is obsessed with the frogs and actually ate one. Why is this happening and is it only a seasonal issue. Help!!

I believe FROGs were the 2nd plague, the first was way too many circles/rotaries/roundabouts in the Villages and the 3rd too many drivers of golf carts who don't turn off their $%^$@#&@^ turn signals.

They go on sabbatical during the winter months. I don’t mind them so much, only what they leave behind.

We've been told that Fenney is a nature lover's paradise. :confused: Small frogs are pretty harmless.
Be careful with your dogs though; I've been told that some giant toads are poisonous to dogs.

I think you will see a change each year in the population of the wild life. Personally I kind of miss hearing all of the frogs. When we moved here 9 years ago you couldn’t seem drive your golf cart on the golf cart trail with out running over frogs as it looked like a invasion of frogs on the trails. The frogs was all you could hear at night. They was everywhere. It sounds similar to what you are experiencing. The next year the water bird population doubled and the frogs seemed to disappear. Then it was the rabbits, they was everywhere. Two or three would be in the yard at one time. The following year the hawks and eagles came and the eco system starting to balance out. In other words, Enjoy the frogs now because next year you might be asking what happened to all of the frogs. We are fortunate to have picked a lot and built on a pond and enjoy all of the wildlife and the changes that come each year.

I seen it coming. Price of houses in Fenney are so high it has forced mostly small frogs to migrate there. The bigger variety of frogs have migrated towards Naples. Snowbirds will soon be an extinct species.

Frogs are a good sign of a healthy environment.

We are in Osceola Hills & have many frogs hopping around at night. We are not near water& they do not make any noise. The worst thing about them is the poop they leave on the walkway. If not for that I could care less. I try not to bring the dog out once it gets dark because you can’t see them in the grass but I can feel them on my feet & the dog tries attacking them.

I hope they constitute a native species experiencing a normal cyclical population increase and not an invasive species.
