POA Forum Is History

Following is a quote from the POA web site:

"The POA Forum has been discontinued. For infromation on The Villages, and their associated forum, the POA recommends Talk of The Villages."

That forum had very little activity, therefore, its demise.

Their quote implies TOTV is an associated forum of The Villages. Where did they get that impression? (That's a rhetorical question.) The admin of TOTV has made it abundantly clear it is in no way "associated" with The Villages Developer.

Hi Downeaster,
Thanks for the news. The POA is/was independent of the developer. My guess is that the POA recommended TOTV because it is an independent voice not associated with the developer.

The rest of the POA website is intact. Looks like they only discontinued the discussion forum (very low activity). It was nice of them to give TOTV a plug and a link ... although their wording does imply that TOTV is an official arm of "The Villages".

It is correct that Talk of The Villages is not associated with The Villages
developer. We and our members value our independence.

I think the POA knows this, also, and the wording on its web site was just an
unfortunate juxtaposition. It happens, like a misplaced modifier.

I wanted to state this clearly so nobody thinks we are hiding behind members'
supporting comments. This is straight from the horse's mouth. (Careful there,
people)

Did anybody ever wonder about that talking horse that knows all that stuff?

Please furnish other examples of "misplaced modifiers" similar to the POA's.

Hi Chuck,

I'll help. For some reason I just can't resist a question if I think I might be able to give an answer. Sometimes I know I act like I must think I am some kind of librarian or schoolmarm or whatever.

Anyway, 'bout dem misplaced modifiers.......a long time ago here on TOTV, uujudy introduced us to a great site called "Grammar Girl." And when I saw your question, I went to that site and found a whole bunch of stuff about misplaced modifiers. Here it is.....

And I promise that I will not give you a test. Well, at least I will try really, really hard not to give you a test. I promise.

Chuck,

Examples:

Do you just want a few? or Do you want just a few?

mulligan 06-19-2010 09:16 AM

I only want just a couple.

Incorrect: The post was deleted by the Talk Host with disinformation.
Correct: The post with disinformation was deleted by the Talk Host.

Before we continue with this lesson, I must ask you to clear any information about misplaced modifiers from your mind, if you have any.

Oh Lord.

Please spare me from feeling so dumb associating with all of these English Majors.

Do, just, you want a few?

tony 06-19-2010 11:34 AM

I think both the Incorrect and the Correct examples there are really correct.

As for the mind? I am looking still? I still am looking? I am still looking?

That's a really good example, Pt, and you inspired me to think of one, too. Thanks.........

While driving to the vet, my dog got nervous and threw up.
