Publix Stores Closing Early

In today's Daily Sun. Publix are closing all their stores, including pharmacies, at 8pm for sanitizing and restocking.

That is all I know, do not ask me, read your newspaper.

Those new hours appear to be company wide which makes sense to me.

Beginning March 14, all Publix locations will close at 8 p.m. nightly until further notice to better serve our customers, give our store teams time to conduct additional preventive sanitation and restock product on shelves.

Bet all the employees that will now work fewer hours will be just loving the panic and hysterical buying public for their loss in wages.

What is next the Zombie Apocalypse.

An opportunity for businesses to return to more sensible open/close times to keep the stores clean and stocked.....like the old days!!!

Are you sure you understand the early closing? They are closing at 8:00pm in the EVENING so that they can sanitize the store and stock the shelves for the following day. I would think there would be more work, not less.

I would bet on there is no reduction in hours worked/paid. Same employees having time to do what needs to be done to better/safely serve US.

Congratulations to Publix.

It looks like they'll be working those hours anyway, but without customers in the stores. So - they'll be re-stocking the shelves, cleaning and sanitizing a store that has no crowds of people in it, doing the same things they needed to do before the early closing, but more efficiently.

They aren’t losing hours, there is the new cleaning procedures, and the stocking of all the crap that people could fit in a cart.

While I certainly understand the need for restocking and sanitizing these stores after the mad rush of shoppers who are in full panic mode, but, Publix normally closes at 8p. Check the website 7a to 8p 7 days a week. Just saying

This morning at the Publix at Lake Deaton I heard 2 employees in the bakery discuss how some other workers will be working overnight to do just that, clean, sanitize then restock. When they're re-opening I don't know but I do know most items on their shelves come in from one of their 3 regional distribution centers and I'm certain all of those are at full capacity receiving goods then getting that inventory out to their many stores.

Huh? The Publix.com website says that most of the stores in the area are open until 9PM, and some are open until 10PM.

The OP said they are closing the stores at 8 PM which is what they are doing, what's misleading?
