Thank you for starting this thread. I strongly encourage everyone to read the moving tribute posted last night by a decent President.

We are one people with one family. We all live in the same house... and through books, through information, we must find a way to say to people that we must lay down the burden of hate. For hate is too heavy a burden to bear. John Lewis

Let's remember what John Lewis dealt with. He had his skull fractured by racist white police as he peacefully marched for rights that never should have been an issue 100 years after the defeat of the Confederacy. No cops were ever charged as they were acting on the authority of the government. His Black life did not matter then. But he persisted and history has proven him right.

Maybe now would be a good time to change the name of that bridge where he and others were peacefully marching for human dignity.

Now, more than ever, we need leaders (of all stripes) like Mr. Lewis speaking up and taking action in our current society.

"Maybe now would be a good time to change the name of that bridge where he and others were peacefully marching for human dignity."

Especially since the bridge was named after someone, who was the exact opposite of what Lewis stood for.

Aside from being a two-term U.S. senator and a Confederate general, Pettus was a Grand Dragon of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan. When legislators decided to name the bridge after him in 1940, Giggie says there's no mistaking the message they wanted to send

He fought the fight. R.I.P.

I didn't always like what he had to say but I liked him. If I saw he was coming up next on the news I always hung around to see what he had to say. R.I.P. Mr. Lewis.

The OP mentioned Integrity. I think that is perfect.

So many people (on both sides of the aisle) are posting really positive comments. It's unfortunate when some people have to "take a shot."
Everyone should put their personal "preferences" aside and just honor the man.

Totally agree. Need more positive, self-less LEADERS of either party. Thank you for your post
